Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls. I present to you the Spectacle of Spectacles, the Showdown of Showdowns the first ever Battle Royale. 40 contestants 1 city each in a fight to the pain. I propose to you a chance to see how BAD you are.

The rules are simple,

1. Exodus a city to the desert
2. Be the last man standing

If you lose your city, you are out. If you exodus your city out of the desert, you are out. I will be working with various alliances to ensure there isnt anything shipped in from the outside as all cities will be blockaded. This is a PvP challenge to see who is the best tactition in a relatively even and fair fight. Who amoungst you is brave enough to face a challenge such as this? Who amoungst you is the superior military strategist.

The contest will start towards the end of the month(June), I will mail all contestants with an exact date to arrive in the "Arena"
post your intentions to fight here, or igm me

Nows your chance all you warrior poets to put up or shut up
Cheers,
Zork2012

awesome idea!

But i believe blockades cannot stop army and diplo reinforcements? So more direct help could come. You could expect thousands of spies, scouts and assassins reinforcing along with armies.

I like the idea.  Well done.  Lets consider that there is more than one desert and this will eventually cause combatants to move across continent to fight the dominant one in the desert across from them.

I am just curious, what will qualify a combatant's city as being in the desert?

There are already many cities bordering deserts.  None that I have seen are actually "on" a desert tile.

Cheers

Hey, good idea Zork! I'll past the info in the Crows ;)

I like the idea, and I am more than happy to do it- but, I recommend some sort of minimum population on the city so that a bunch of newbs don't decide to do this and get slaughtered by everyone else. Also, I recommend that everyone entering donates a certain amount of gold to the 'pot'- winner takes all?

Posted By: Zork2012
Date Posted: 10 Jun 2012 at 14:23

Rule #3. get caught with a non contestant army reinforcing you and youre out

Rule #4. all contestant city and sov must be on a desrt tile or youre out

I was thinking of having a 1 mil gold registration fee and a 75% 25% split with the final 2 combatants, but I am open to a winner take all. the registration fe should limit the contestants but if a noob wants to actually move thier city with tendrils spell - idiotic idea imho - oh well

You cannot teleport to those 0 food 'desert' tiles as such, you could teleport to oasis/wadi tiles in desert biome though. Such areas are plenty
http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-958/-335/14" rel="nofollow - http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-958/-335/14

maybe you could designate an area and assign the oasis tiles to contestants, thus also avoiding multiple cities targeting the same tile to exodus.

excellent idea, I may do a lottery for the positions

Once a city is in Exodus to a tile, another city cannot Exodus to the same tile.  Another city CAN exodus to an adjacent tile.  Don't those oasis tiles have only 2 iron and stone squares?  Keep in mind that Exodused cities pick up the resource plot configuration of the squares on which they're built.  People will have to ship in pretty much all their iron and stone.  Will make blockade extremely effective, I suppose.

If everyone has the same limitations then I guess it is easier to just make it part of the challenge.

Although probably won't be trying to join in myself - I understand the idea of moving to the desert and setting up blockades is to attempt to put all the contestants on an even playing-field but really there is no way to limit the amount of resource/troops people take with them and whoever moves the most will effectively be the winner.

People won't be able to take in more basics than a level 12 storehouse plus level 12 warehouse can hold (I think that's around 100k total).  (They also won't be able to take more advanced resources than this, but 100k advanced resources is quite a lot.)  I wonder if people will port in with a bunch of thieves rather than a bunch of armies in order to pick their rivals clean.  Would be another interesting strategy.

I think this is an interesting challenge.  Will be fun to watch what people do with it, although I don't have a city to spare to participate.  Maybe I can bamboozle Ryelle into doing it.

Since there's a 5-day "freeze" on armies and diplos after Exodus, it seems like people would need to time their arrivals as close to the designated starting time as possible in order to avoid being sitting ducks.

Lots of intriguing options.

your warehouse and store house will drop to lv12 also, so there is that limitation, also I have asked the devs for some help here with maybe some special rules preventing outside vans from reaching a destination in the desert and there by eliminating the need for blockades, fingers crossed, we will see what can be done. I may just lay down a rule about being dq'd for outside vans arriving. I will keep you posted on this development.

I think it is interesting idea, especialy for medium players that can rebuild lost city fairly fast compared to players with 9 or 10 cities. That alone will enable that all competitors are of relativ same size when they start, it will be unlikely that many 20-25k troop city will be involved in battles so PvP will be interesting

Great idea Zork and the message has been posted to all Calaquendi Crows.  Immediate feedback is that several are not keen to move cities for this contest.

A suggestion therefore is to see if the devs could allow the original square to be re-settled again after the contest, even if the city itself is razed during the contest....

If I could, I would join. Sounds like a lot of fun but I don't think I'm large enough to come anywhere near the win! I'll have great fun watching though :)

I have to disagree buddy.  I think a hands off approach from the devs would be commendable, and am sure they would be happiest of all the see their players taking initiative to create some sort of entertainment.  A herald article would be kinda cool though detailing who the contestants are and their coords etc.

The dev team will not be able to assist or get involved in this event in any way. I do indeed love to see players taking initiative on player-run events and wish you the best of luck. But changing the game in any way to suit this gets into messy areas of 1) favoritism and 2) possibly breaking the game, so we just can't do it.

And what about those of us who have cities in the desert? If people attack me just because I have a city placed in the desert I'm not going to be impressed. Mind you, I'm in an area that's not actually classified as desert but I am completely surrounded in it.

My guess would be some sort of list of participants but that's doesn't guarantee your neutrality.  I would suggest they pick an area of desert where no one has settled but is there such a location?

I see a fly in the ointment, so to speak, as regards caravans. If you disqualify anyone who has a caravan come in, what's to stop any random player intentionally (or even accidentally) sending one of the participants a caravan and disqualifying them?

This is genius.

Count me in, but drop me if you are over-subscribed: I'll happily stand aside to let others compete, but I'll line my city up for destruction if you're short on players ;-)

Did I miss any note on what dates this would run?

I really hate to sound like a spoilsport but those squares are unfair. Kurdruk and Duke are surrounded by plains, most other people have one or two hills nearby and me and Norman are virtually surrounded by hills.

If you want to do this, at least make the squares fair.

Apart from that- GAME ON.

PS: the participants need to disable their diplomatic relations between each other.

Posted By: LordOfTheSwamp

2 thoughts:

1) Noki - I'm not sure it's that unfair. I looked at that and thought "OK, so if a move a cavalry specialist city down there, I should be able to keep the squares clear of sieges... but my troops will be completely wrong for purposes of besieging anyone else - which is required to win..." If a whole alliance is involved then being surrounded by plains is a massive boon to alliance-mates who are trying to defend you... but in this case...? I'm not so sure.

2) 7 people? Seriously?! All the whining on the forum about how Illyriad is too peaceful and wars would be fun blah blah blah, and only 7 people are up for this!
a) Does anyone want clearer proof that Illyriad's players don't want wars?
b) Maybe it would be worth postponing this a couple of weeks to try to rustle up more players? (I mean, a 1/7 chance of surviving sounds better than 1/20... but 1/20 sounds more like a Battle Royale!)

By the time winter rolls around I suspect this will just be finishing.  Hopefully by then it will grab the acclaim of an audience and will the precursor for the Winter Battle Royale in the arctic?

Hey, you started it with your evil Blighting Mages! My bloodthirsty homicidal maniacs can claim provocation. I only regret that the combat reports did not mention my troops ransacking your Mages Tower and doing gruesome things to your Blight-casters. eh... i thought trading was legal. i don't think it's assistance, cause it's a trade. you pay gold for it or lose resources to gain gold. assistance is accepting free supplies, or defending armies. but if everybody else isn't trading i will stop doing it. also: there's not much sense in having a marketplace when you can only use it for resource gathering

Posted By: Darkwords
Date Posted: 13 Jul 2012 at 19:26
I am not taking part so perhaps my views on this do not count, but I would see trading as a bit of a cheat, simply because it would mean the big players could have loaded their cities with gold before exodusing and then just buy everything they need.

However, alternately to that I would expect that some of the big players will have loaded their cities with gold to maintain a large army whilst their city was recovering from the exodus, so there is no way of making this kind of contest perfectly even.

If I learned one thing in this, its how to dodge incoming armies like a beast lol
Also Id like to say, this has really helped my PvP, as I was a little rusty, and had forgot a few things
So far the swamp lord and the Crow murderer are as far as I can tell in the lead.
Congrats also to Binky, for reasons I cant announce here Wink

Does that mean that I'm allowed to place buy orders on the market?

Nah, it means I am unable to make a good deal in the market.  The single person acting honorably in this competition will not accept it.

I think it is pretty obvious once kurdruk announced buying from the market the legitimacy of this contest failed.

This is a learning experience though.  I will most likely look toward joining in the next contest when the rules are twice as clear and lack of honor can be more regulated.

I think placing overrated orders and let allies accept them would be cheating. Otherwise it's ok I think.

This is great, sounds like y'all are having a lot of fun.  Would any of you be willing to do an interview for me to write up in this thread about your experiences?

So far my scouts only found 2 siege units. I guess it will take a long time before all but one are driven from the scene.

That's a real shame - sorry to see you go. You killed quite a lot of my Orcs Clap

I'll leave your city in peace - when it has hit Warehouse 20 no doubt it will head away on its own accord.

Only two left?! Hmm. I need a strategy other than "dig in, 'cos lots of people might be having a go..."

My secret weapon has worked great so far. Get the opponents so bored they run away from the dessert. Too bad I forgot that orcs don't have social lifes and don't care to be bored. :(

Time to go to plan B(inky)

+1 Indeed, I found too late that having one or even two towns less than allowed is a very comfortable state for quick experiments such as "capture a town and hop to Bink & Co. in the desert".   Well, maybe quick is the not the best adjective for this battle royaleLOL

Lousy Orc? Lousy? My hairy bits contain a whole range of insectoid (and other) life forms - I feel that mentioning only the lice is unfair to the other creatures in my crevasses.

Anyway, I think what you meant, when you said "That lousy orc killed my armies", is "the cunning greenskins outwitted my lumbering forces, thus proving the military superiority of the Orc race" ;-)

Happy to hear the roar of applause from a fellow Orc.

But the foe isn't beaten yet. Down but not out, as they say.

you are so lucky assassination in siegecamps isn't possible yet, although it was announced some time before this battle started.

It's true. My commanders, completely heedless of danger, rarely bother armouring their backs. They'd be easy prey for assassins (again!)

I didn't see military superiority of the orc race in those sieges you sent. Even without assassins two attempts failed. (though I must say they did quite some damage)
Comsidering I had not a single military unit left when the first siege started you indeed are 'the not very magnificent'

Okay, I give up, I'm a dead man. My siege army was destroyed before it made its move and I don't think I can break the latest siege.

It was fun as long as it lasted, though it would have been more fun if the other players would have stayed longer.

Congratulations to Kurdruk.

* Messenger sent to recall the siege
* Ander - I believe you own Noki some money? How could you bet against me! I'm hurt, I tell you! ;-)

Binky put up one heck of a fight, and certainly used diplos far better than I did. Big, big round of applause to Binky.

And I will take my bow, and return that city to building mode.

Thanks to all involved for this.
