Hello Illyrians, Today we have launched an Illyriad Player Spotlight program. The purpose of the program is to encourage and celebrate players who contribute to the community in a meaningful and helpful fashion. It is our (the dev team's) way of saying thank you to those standout players who make Illyriad what it is today. What happened to the hands off approach? Celebrating certain players seems to go against that ideal. I agree players like Sun need to be celebrated, it's just too bad the community couldn't do it itself. R. |

This is certainly an interesting development, but in my opinion a very dangerous one. It certainly clouds the boundary of dev impartiality or it is an easily-gamed popularity contest. And I don't relish Luna's task of balancing quality against quantity over a long term. Putting that aside, however, I do congratulate SunStorm. My opinion (and that of my fellow Harmless Directors) is easily ascertained by his recent acceptance into Harmless, and subsequent promotion to "Full Member" in less than 90 days--a title that often takes several months to acquire at best. ------------- "Apparently, quoting me is a 'thing' now." - HonoredMule |

| Sounds interesting. Congrats Sunny! I like the concept, I think I'd rather the devs just picked players themselves rather than people nominating them though. Some people DO deserve more recognition but they might still be overlooked with the 'popularity contest' style. |

Just to make it clear (I may need to make it clearer on the web page as well), it is not a popularity contest. The dev team chooses people based on their contributions to the community. Some may be what you'd call "obvious" choices, some may not. Nominations are just a way for players to also voice their opinions on who they think would be a good fit and who's been helpful to them. The final decision though lies with us and will not be entirely influenced by "votes" or anything of the sort. This looks more like an " he who gives us the most free advertisement shall be picked " set up. Makes one wonder what will be next: special items for sale in the store? special abilities for sale? advertisement on the side of the game? really starting to look like illy is going to start going down the road of the other games

Luna picks a proposal by her own standards, I don't think that's dangerous: She could as well invite interesting players for an interview without asking for proposals first. But there are far too many interesting players, I could easily fill a wishlist for the next two years...

Congratulations to SunStorm  Perhaps since the idea of a statue for Amroth was not in the cards - this would be a way for us to permanently remember his place an contributions to Illy. That was never confirmed as far as I know, Killer. And without wishing to be morbid, it's very hard for the devs to interview Amroth and send him a t-shirt.

my heartiest congrats to sunstorm  ... So when is the next player going to be announced? If my opinion is asked, i dont mind people being brought up in the spot light, its a gud way to instigate other players to spread the word about illyriad although I hope nobody's feeling get hurt when they also have been contributing so much for the wellfare of illy but may never get the recognition they deserved which is bound to happen, so ya i partially agree with HM cause there is a thin line which will be difficult for the gms & devs to balance ...
