During the last tournament the devs changed something about the attack calculation to get rid of the rounding "unfairness". In some cases (maybe in all?) casualties are now rounded up instead of down like they always were. This leads to an exploit when attacking. Here's one of my attacks

Victorious battle against Giant Rats (NPCs)'s forces at Square 359|-572 by Innoble's forces from Milky Way

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions - and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there's some cover available.

Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels.

Your victorious troops retrieved:
Gold
from the slain foes.

As you can see it is a victory and all rats are dead. However, the army is also destroyed and all commanders are returned home instantly (ALIVE!). That means I can attack again right away. So now whereas I could only attack only one legion of rats on a day before, I can now attack two (provided I have the troops and want to spare the time searching). I doubt this is as intended.

NOTE: This has nothing to do with the defy death commander ability. That one only triggers when commanders die, usually when you lose. I got no such message and this report is only one of roughly 10 now. The trick works every time. Note also that the gold retrieved is 0. That makes sense since there are no troops available to carry.

At first when I noticed this I just added 1 more troop to the calculation to make sure the army would not be destroyed, but then I realized it was more profitable to be destroyed and able to attack again.

Of course none of this helps you if you cannot calculate your hits precisely. B ut then some of us can. Do we really need another major advantage to add to that?

While this is interesting and maybe exploitable, I imagine in most cases you'd want your commanders alive and not losing 99 health at a time, and just wait the hour or two it takes for them to get back.  There just aren't that many targets really worth attcking that I ever see.

perhaps you're right, but I hit a day away many times. It does kind of help that my commanders are back after just 1 day instead of 2. It doesn't really matter to me that they come back with 1 HP. They heal on the way to their next legion.

Again... only on a day where I am actually able to play enough illy to find those legions.

Cool trick! I'm glad there are players out there savvy enough to figure these things out, and who care enough about the game to bring it up publicly. Otherwise, how would the Devs know these things were possible?
Just imagine how the last tourney might've changed if the stacking/rounding mechanic had already been identified and addressed..

has anyone else experienced the bug of attacking unopposed and still losing a unit?  *raises hand*  Maybe I shouldn't allow my troops to drink before going on a mission.

(new attack algorithm...*sigh*)
