Wish there was a period to recall caravans like diplos and military. I keep sending wrong stuff to people and getting stuck.

+1, and while at it the delete mail function (as it is, not as it should be) needs an undo, bumping my own vans and deleting the wrong mails are my favourite errors.

Um, at some point the message has to get, well, deleted. If there was an undo, the system would still just be holding them, which would defeat the purpose.

Not going to happen as it would wreck the trade system completely. Sorry.

Well if there was a recall button, it would have to be made so that it is only for direct orders, not orders in the marketplace. You'd just have to trust the other guy if you are trading directly.

It could be exploited; for example you have a load of thieves heading for your city- tiny bit before they hit, send away all of your res, let the thieves steal some gold (or basic res if you left basic res), then recall your vans. Apart from that though, it's a pretty good idea.

This seems like a relatively minor exploit, since one now has the option of sending away vans; the only difference is the amount of trouble getting your stuff back.
If they could fix the trade thing by making caravans involved in trade offers un-recallable, I think the theft thing is not such a big deal; savvy thieves would respond by sending two packs three minutes apart.

The trade accept button is a different story. If recall isn't okay for ordinary harvesting issues another solution would be to provide more info in the "send" form: How long will it take to get to the target, and are there already other vans on the way to or harvesting at the target? At the moment the "send" form only allows to pick one or more vans, but offers no detailed info.
For the mail delete undo it's similar: If I could delete a system mail while reading it I wouldn't need an undo. But as it is I have to quit the mail, then find it in the list, select it, scroll down, and click delete. Problem is, I sometimes select the wrong mail, the subjects are similar or sometimes identical, e.g., "spy mission to new settlement successful".
After figuring out that this old "new settlement" is now an even newer settlement with a rainbow the message can be deleted. But there are several of these messages in the list, which is the one I want to delete?

A big issue. Effective thieving against active player would become impossible.
I'm against recall button, but I do support more information when you send your vans out.

The only thing I am for is knowing the time to the destination.
Even then I would like to wait until trade version 2 to see what they have implemented. Who knows, they probably already have this in the works for trade version 2 but are waiting for trade version 2 to release it. You never know.
If http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/the-newness-18aug10_topic929.html" rel="nofollow - trade version 2 is what they say it is, then I see no point to implement this in the mean time. I am not sure how they will implement trade version 2, but from the way it sounded a year ago, it seems like they will be re-working the whole caravans stuff.

We are, essentially, introducing a
whole slew of different caravan types, with different capacities,
movement speeds, and to some extent "goods types" (ie there will be
specific caravans for carrying living things, such as livestock and
horses). |

You don't get that much notification of incoming diplos, so it would depend on you being online when they were coming in. Of the multiple times I've been thieved, I've never been online when they arrived or in time to see them coming in, and I'm online more than most people.
And again, people can already send out caravans of goods in order to avoid having them be thieved, this would just mean it's less inconvenient to retrieve the goods vs. sending them all to your own city or a nearby ally. Many ultra-cautious people such as myself would probably still choose to send them to an ally or nearby city rather than having to time the sending and recall around the time of the thieves' arrival.
Not to mention that when you get to be fairly big, most players have more advanced resources than they can fit in a city's max caravans.

+5,892,321 I know most people do this already when being thieved and their online. I send adv res in caravans to another of my cities. Safe. Players SHOULD have someway to safeguard goods from incoming thieves... Hearing "awww man, thieving would be complicated and take planning" is pretty bunk. To do everything effectively in Illy you need planning and strategy, it would really not have any major impact. Especially since we are suggesting a 1-2 minute window to recall like with military and diplos... Not unlimited recall ability. So stop hating on this wonderful thread!

Well excuse us for pointing out the flaws in your reasoning!
Rill, its not too long ago we had advanced diplo buiuldings introduced, and these will have an impact on the game next time people get in a fight. I get the feeling you really want this, but maybe youd want to inquire with the devs first if your idea somehow undermines their original plan. It has been suggested before and rejected before - by DEV's themselves.
Dare I suggest? Maybe there are other areas that merit more attention?

Actually it's not super high priority for me, falls more into the "nice to have" category. The last time I heard the devs talk about it, they said it was something they would give serious consideration. If it's something that can be built into trade v2, I think it's worth doing.
I likely am tempted to recall caravans a lot less than other people, since most of the vans I send are long-range trips of 1 caravan of goods to new players.
It is possible for people to contribute to the discussion for the good of the game rather than for some personal interest.
