First the resource icons broke, then I cleared my browser cache and attempted to reload, now I can't get back in, just get a hang screen.

Im not able to get in either - Exact same symptoms as Rill

Edit: I only have the top scroll - empty, the top Illyriad logo and an unloaded "Notifications" area and the loading symbol spinning towards eternity...

Same problem in both Chrome and Internet Explorer.  The initial screen at www.illyriad.co.uk is messed up (graphic items are out of place), same thing on the login screen, then I login and it just hangs.

I can't get a proper screen load either - both Chrome and IE9 fail.

I'm using an up to date firefox, the main Illy screen buttons are all over the place and general ingame graphics are missing too.

I can get into the game and AC is moving, but cannot return mail or see graphics within mail

The mini map has just come back on so perhaps its in the process of being fixed :)

This should now be resolved. You may need to refresh the browser/clear the cache.

If it's not only me the problems started again at about 04:30 server time, and so far the usual tricks (clear cache, restart browser, reboot OS) don't help:  Login works, forum works, but the "welcome to Illyriad" page hangs showing the begin of the "raw" (undecoded) notifications.  The event countdowns are frozen at the initial state.  After a reload the next events are updated, but again frozen.  After some time all server connections (server6221.dedicated.webfusion.co.uk) are terminated, nothing happens, the top navigation bar isn't shown.

No interesting modifications on my side since I joined Illyriad, let alone today (chrome 16.0.912.77).

I'm still able to play Illy, dunooob, including chat and mail.  Sounds like the problem is getting into Illy.

Good, I just tested various odd things like 25 simultaneous logins over (in essence) ISDN bandwidth: Everything from o2-DE IPs such as 81.113.x.y is me testing, not a real attack on your server... GeekGeek  My unmodified privacy defenses are rather harsh (no 3rd party cookies, google analytics hardwired as 127.0.01, the works).

Tnx for info, Rill, I'm on my last day (for the next month) with "reduced mobile broadband" bandwidth, and at those times I'm never sure if it's only me (= my ISP) or something on the other side.

Using IE9 I added lots of dubious info, notably that IE9 also fails, and when I wanted to add an emoticon IE9 managed to destroy the content of the "quick reply" form while asking me if I want to permit the emoticon popup.   Sigh.
Slightly annoying, I can see that my build queue is now empty, and I can't add common grounds plus farm level 13 while waiting for a fix.  [Insert crying smiley here]

Not entirely sure what that means? Is that the forum causing an error?

My guess is that the popup blocker in IE9 is kind of stupid, after permitting the popup it reloaded the page for a quick reply (forgetting what I typed before).  Anyway, IE9 was only a test, and as expected IE9 doesn't help with the game problem.

For Chrome Illy still hangs:  There are apparently 93 elements in a "performance audit" for the first page after logon, resulting in four suggestions:

  1. There are multiple resources served from same domain. Consider combining them into as few files as possible.
    1. 4 JavaScript resources served from elgea.illyriad.co.uk.

    1. Compressing the following resources with gzip could reduce their transfer size by about two thirds (~76.60KB):
      1. http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/scripts/illyriad232-min.js" rel="nofollow - illyriad232-min.js  could save ~76.60KB

      1. To further improve cache hit rate, specify an expiration one year in the future for the following cacheable resources:
        1. http://www.oxytube.com/js/chromeServerV44.js" rel="nofollow - www.oxytube.com/js/chromeServerV44.js
        2. http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/scripts/ba-emotify2.min.js" rel="nofollow - ba-emotify2.min.js
        3. http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/scripts/ck/ckeditor.js" rel="nofollow - /scripts/ck/ckeditor.js
        4. http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/scripts/illyriad232-min.js" rel="nofollow - illyriad232-min.js
      2. The following resources are explicitly non-cacheable. Consider making them cacheable if possible:
        1. http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Military/Movements" rel="nofollow - /#/Military/Movements
        2. http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/Handler/UnitJs.ashx" rel="nofollow - UnitJs.ashx

      1. The following external CSS files were included after an external JavaScript file in the document head. To ensure CSS files are downloaded in parallel, always include external CSS before external JavaScript.
      2. 1 inline script block was found in the head between an external CSS file and another resource. To allow parallel downloading, move the inline script before the external CSS file, or after the next resource.

Of course that's likely all beside the point if folks with a reasonable bandwidth are also affected.

It's interesting that the logout button is visible, but clicking it has apparently no effect (some event listener does not yet listen when the first page hangs).  The six buttons in the "next events" have a visible effect (something is sent transmitted and received, the URL reflects the clicked button), but don't revive the hanging "welcome to Illy" page.  The top nav bar is still hidden; whatever toggles the inline "display: none" style is not executed.

Vague idea, an obscure YouTube downloader 11.0, I'll test to deactivate this extension, and report if that helps.

I started a new thread "Jan. 26 Server is Down AGAIN" to consolidate problem reports.

    Posted By: dunnoob
    Date Posted: 27 Jan 2012 at 00:49
Thanks, Rill, but I stick to this thread, because my problems immediately vanished after my ISP initiated the monthly 5 GB with real (= UMTS) mobile broadband bandwidth some minutes ago.  Before (yesterday in my timezone, before 23:00Z) I found an interesting way to maximize the failed login attempts:

1: clear cache, login, and start the Chrome "error console" (an option in "inspect this element")
2: after login the first (hanging) page loads, and the error console shows all load errors
3: if a load error affects a script (anything.js) reload the first page (goto 2), it's anyway hopeless

With this "watch error console and reload a.s.a.p." trick I arrived at about 5 reloads/minute.  Out of curiosity I also tested a ping to the elgea server:  Normally it's about 200ms without packet loss.  At the time when the first page hangs it's 200ms up to over 3000ms with 30% packet loss.  Unsurprisingly this does not work, one ore more of the critical anything.js are never loaded.  For a few hours yesterday I was lucky and got two working Illy browser tabs -- all attempts to open a third Tab failed, but hey, one good tab is enough to keep the build and research queues busy.

Illy worked also for low bandwidth last week, apparently a code or server change over the weekend was a seriously bad idea for some "smallband" users.
