There has been several discussions surrounding the usefulness of the Chancery of Estates. After running the numbers I was quite astonished by what I found.

Claiming 150 squares is claiming the closest squares within a 7 radius. Using math we get a combined distance of 696.22 squares. This results in 6962 Research Points per hour and 69622 Gold per hour. A Level 20 Library only produces 1013 Research Points + 100 Research Points from Allembine Research.

I am unsure if Chancery of Estates provides deductions to both Gold and Research Points or if its just Gold (clarification, please). Assuming that it applies to both, that leaves 4k RP and 40K Gold per hour to hold those squares.

A 20k pop city with a tax rate of 50% and no units could afford the gold cost, though it seems it would take 4 cities worth of RP or 150 books per hour to support. Claiming max sov on more than 2 cities seems highly improbable.

Is this intended, a design flaw, or will it make sense during future updates?

Edit: Forgot that RP is tied to taxation. So, a 50% tax rate would reduce the RP p/h to 834 RP p/h.

The Chancery building itself only uses wood, clay, stone, and food. It is the Sov claims that cost you gold and RP (with an additional cost for basics depending on the building you build).

I see the Chancery as a way to less expensively claim a goodly chunk of territory around one's city. Whether it is cost effective or not, it blocks folks from settling or moving cities there...

The res cost was excluded from this analysis as it is negligible compared to the astronomical costs of RP and gold. Also, since it is only possible to build 20 buildings, their cost has also been excluded from the analysis.

This discussion pertains to the possibility of claiming 150 sov squares with a Chancery of Estates.

Hi matiez,

The Chancery of Estates provides reductions to both Research Points (RP) and Gold per hour.

The reduction is 2% per level of the building, and you can build multiple Chanceries, with each additional building only providing half the previous reduction.

So, 3xL20 Chanceries would provide a 70% reduction (40+20+10) in both the gold and RP cost per hour of claiming L1 sovereignty.

The RP and gold you can spend on sovereignty is limited. Running at 0% tax, you would get like 1100+25% nearly 1350 RP. If you claim sovereignty with all of it, the gold cost would be 13,500/hour.

A level 20 chancery uses 3200 clay, 800 wood and 1600 stone - 5600 resources in total. That saves you somewhere near 4000 gold if all your sovereignty are level 1 claims. Not at all worth the upkeep if you look at it that way - because you already run a town at 0% tax with a negative gold income and only 20 level 1 workable sov tiles and a huge amount of basic resources are being consumed to bring down your comparatively small negative gold flow.

Apparently the building is not designed to save you any gold. It's use is to let you claim a a lot of land for yourselves. You get neither gold, nor production out of the city with a chancery.

I would say that is completely fair though. Space is a limited resource. How much is a portion of the map of Illy worth, esp when you could be playing it for years?

You could also think about the chancery or land claims this way -

Why do you want to have more cities? Why do you want to have more gold? Why do you want to have more standing army even if you don't want to go to war?

One might already have a few cities with a lot of gold and army, why not have a city with a lot of land around?

I think that chancery is more useful then it looks on first glance, depending on what gold is used for.In 7 food city with good food sovs and profesional army, with 3 military buildings,it can suport up to 8-10k additional t2 troops without going negativ on any res, RP included.Also city must be suported with two geomancers retreat.This goes only for 7 food legendary cities.In that case any gold that is saved is worth twice as much since it is used to suport t2 unit that has only 50% upkeep.Extra RP (around 100 RP)are used to increase tax without going negativ on RP and gain additional 10-13k gold.Since city is on 7 food spot in can easily suport high taxes and still be in green with food income.Maybe it would work for 5 food cities but probably with less effect....or i am maybe doing it wrong for few months, i never really calculated all numbers.If i am wrong this is good place to learn harsh truth.
