I've finally managed to build up a meager army, I was just wondering if I can only attack other players with it or if there were other things we can attack?

You can only attack player armies / cities / caravans with your own army.
Occupy squares, reinforce other towns, raid towns, attack towns.

If you see another player's caravan harvesting resources, you can send your army to the resource and if the caravan is there when you arrive, you will kill the caravan.  Of course, this is a good way to earn yourself an enemy.  But you might also "scare" him away from the resource so you can harvest more of it.

You can send your army to nearby cities and raid them for resources.  I recommend sending a scout to the city first to make sure it is undefended.  In my area, it appears most nearby cities are "abandoned" as they are undefended and I haven't seen "enemy" activity after my raids.

I have only had an army for less than 1 day so I am very inexperienced.

Here's another Army Q...

Booty received on a raiding mission - how is the booty determined?  Type of Goods recieved and Qunatity of Goods received.

Can I raid the same city repeatedly for a constant supply of booty?  (That sounds rude.  But who would complain about an endless supply of booty?)LOL

You can, but only untill his resources run out. For example: Say I have an army of 100 militiamen. They can carry an X amount of resources per militiaman (think it was 10-20 per militiaman, higher tier can cary more resources. The Military Logitiscs increases this by 50%). So 100* 10 to 20 is 1000 to 2000 resources. But hey, its a player that just started, lvl 1 warehouse, only 500 space per resource. So when I attack him 2 times, I have stolen all of his resources and another attack would simply be useless (or only get the 20 resources he's made during that time). You'd have to wait for his resources to build up again before attacking him again. Or attack some1 else ofcourse.
Also, if he has a vault his resources are protect up until a certain amount. And an army takes only basic resources (Stone, Wood, Iron, Clay and Food)
Also, attack brings more resources then raid, but with attack you go for kiling ALL of his army first, then take resources.
Raid fights his army but sends some soldiers out to steal a few resources and then pull back again.

Well, that's about as clear as I can make it :)

Oh, the resources you take appear to be random to me. Not sure about his though.

Also note raiding takes less resources than an full out attack...

Thanks guys for the input.Clap

I said Raid but I am really Attacking undefended cities - I suspect the players have abandoned the game.

So I should increase the # of militiamen in my Army to get more booty on each attack.  That's very good to know.Smile

What is the purpose of divisions?

It doesn't look like I can move divisions independently from its Army.

to allow you to have multiple commanders in the same army giving different bonus to different unit types.

So whats the etiquette for attacking? I've found a few settlements around me who have been out of noob protection for a few days and have a population of 0, so I sent my boys along to "borrow" a cup of sugar.

Does a pop 0 mean the guy/girl has left the game, I know I'd be a bit narked if someone came piling in to "borrow" from me.

You can send a spy / scout mission to be sure. When they have only lvl 0 buildings (maybe a lvl 1 between them) and no army and almost zero pop and full resources then yeah, he's most likely inactive...
Also, if the name of the town is still New Settlement they havent even done the turtorial so I gues that makes it more likely that they're inactive too ^^

I don't know if it is effective, but for now I've been leaving 1 militiaman in my Capital while my Army attacks inactive neighbors for booty.  Also I try to leave a Scout in my Capital after researching Counter-Espionage - I think this is supposed to alert me to enemy scout missions on my Capital and maybe thrawt them.  But at least by leaving a unit at home, if I get scouted or attacked, the enemy will know I'm active and armed, even if lightly.  Let 'em have 2nd thoughts about "waking a sleeping dog" sorta thing.
