Couldn't post a reply in the News forum, so I'm posting this here.

The WebGL Experiments look fantastic! Or at least, the screenshots do. Sadly, the video card on my laptop does not support WebGL. This is probably due to having an out-of-date driver for my graphics card.

I see this posing a problem for people who will lack WebGL support completely. To resolve this, I suggest running a WebGL version of Illyriad side-by-side the current UIv2 (or whatever version it will be when WebGL UI is finally released).

Its a temporary thing to limit the amount of testing. In game we won't be limiting browsers, and it will be more kind to your gfx card and bandwidth Wink

We will be having a side by side implementation - this is especially important for phones, low bandwidth users and *cough* Internet Explorer...

So you picked the slowest loading browser to do it with?

A couple of things,
1) it takes for ever to load - about 10 minutes
2) after it ran a while, it caused my computer to freeze while my Gfx card crashed
3) you should check your https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M_oTm9oXhmI/TrroFKgNlDI/AAAAAAAABO0/v3ENWBfhxdE/s1024/3d.png" rel="nofollow - lighting patterns

but other than that, it was kinda cool :)

I hope we'll always be able to opt out of "fancy" graphics like 3d stuff, on any browser.  As cool as it is, it's not everyone's cup of tea, and I'm more "task-oriented."

For me, it wouldn't add much to the game, but I can see the commercial appeal (screenshot candy) in having something that looks more tangible than numbers (like the Town Map looks better than a table of numbers).

Going the 3D route, I'd be concerned that my puter would we working hard to animate 'nothing happening', and I'd not want UI activations to be more difficult. [I hope everyone learns from Skyrim!]
