Hello Illyriad community! My name is Luna and (as some of our rather sleuth-y forum goers have already noticed) I'm your new Community Manager. Before I get into what that means for Illyriad, I thought I'd tell you a little about myself. One can't remain a mystery dwarf forever. I've been playing MMOs and participating in online communities for over 12 years. In that time, I've made some amazing friends through our shared hobby and have no doubt learned the value of community in gaming. I've been a leader in various online communities for the past 4 years as a blogger, podcaster, fansite operator and community manager of a gaming-focused social network. My gaming style is very social and I even dabbled in guild leadership for a time. MMOs are inherently social experiences and I believe that the people you play with are just as valuable as the game itself. While I haven't played Illyriad as long as many of you, I've definitely enjoyed my time in game, in large part due to its community driven aspects. Even I, on my first day in game, received a care-o-van of resources without even asking for them. Generosity and helpfulness toward new players is not something you see every day in many other MMOs that I've experienced. Though I will no longer be participating in game as a player, I look forward to fostering player interaction in my new position. Which leads me to my role on the Illyriad team. As your Community Manager, my function (to state it simply) is to facilitate communication between players and developers as well as amongst the playerbase. I hope that in doing so I can help to enrich the gaming experience for our players and encourage the continued growth of Illyriad. I have a lot of exciting ideas swirling around about how we can make that happen and look forward to sharing those with you soon. Greets Luna - saw you in GC last night. o/ New posts coming so quickly I think the light from my screen got red-shifted. Anyways - good luck in your new role - I look forward to seeing what ideas you have and what impact they might have on us lot.
There's always one isn't there?  If I had to hazard a guess though I'd say no - Community Manager in Illy is not currently a paid position - the same as the artistic and storywriting roles currently occupied. |

I think a good majority of players here would quit the game and work for free for the illyriad development team. I wouldn't, but a few would.

Indeed Kur. Illy is an exciting project. It is exciting to play but I imagine it would be even more interesting to be REALLY involved in shaping the game. |

Though I'm sure the more analytical players among us are most likely to want to work on a game like this (or even be part of the team), it also occurs to me that the same itchingly creative folk might also become quickly bored and frustrated with the restrictions of the existing roadmap and vision, and project boredom would ensue when they find themselves working on unrelated detail in the project, and having to iron out every foible before their changes were pushed live. In game development, coming up with the original idea is just 2% of the work. Posting in the Suggestions forum comes with the luxury of not having to do the other 98%! :o)

I'm pretty sure Illyriad has a strict policy regarding the hiring of active in-game players...i.e. you can be on staff or be a real player, but not both. Would quite happily work for free anonymously but would never give up my account without spitting blood and feathers... Why? How are you meant to be in touch with the player base if you don't play yourself and know what everyone else is going though?
