I have a great suggestion that can be implemented in a relatively short period of time....

The GMs should enable us to put advertising in the Herald, or at least add an extra section where we could post things.... They could ask for a player to pay for it with prestige.....

They could make it into a real newspaper too, with a few reasonably objective players for editors and reporters

classified advertising!

I'd like to also see posts similar to "fictitious business names" where if a player or an alliance changes his or her name, a post goes up for 1-2 weeks stating the old name and the new name.

Sounds kind of like the market, please explain in more detail what you are thinking.

This could be alliance recruitment advertising, offers for mercenary services, statements regarding wars ... although hopefully there would be some guidelines to avoid having it devolve into flame wars ... maybe divided into sections?  or limited to specific topics?

Or just have it cost 2-3 prestige and if alliances want to pay to smear each other they could.

Nice ideas Rill, I approve now. I could see lots of alliances using the recruitment advertising. But I think a cost of gold would be better than a cost of prestige.

I understand the Herald Advertising; but what where your thoughts on Direct Mail? (Junk Mail is undirected hosepipe spam - so would never be allowed; Direct mail has context over lap with recipient).

Were you thinking "send message to all Dwarves in the Middle Kingdom with a population between 400 and 4000 and is unaffiliated with an Alliance"?

That would be so cool...I don't know if I'd ever use it but still, it'd be really cool.

I like the filter option and my idea. :D Yup will make recruiting a lot easier.... But maybe to easy with the filter option... could lead to unexpected problems in the future

If direct mail is implemented, players should be allowed to opt-in or opt-out of all such mail or permitted to block certain senders.

I can see a use for a "new player" option where mail could be automatically sent to new players in a certain area or certain characteristics ... that could either overwhelm new players with junk mail or provide an opportunity for the community to welcome them effectively when global chat gets overrun or for people too shy for gc.  Could be great or could go horribly awry.
