Subject: Why would older groups be making claims?

Today Boromir from Order of the Valar and  Morida from Dwarven Lords both initiated sovereignty claims on one of our players sovereignty squares.  Neither Valor or DLords has any cities close to 593|469. Both are almost 1000 squares away. They cannot be serious about making use of the square. This leaves me to wonder, why they would go out of their way to initiate something against the player and our group.

There can be no dispute, either Dwarven Lords or Order of the Valar could completely wipe those of the Relic off the map.  One player from each group has more population than all of us combined in just one or two of their cities. I can see no reason, no honor, no practical purpose for either of these groups or players in initiating action against us.

Is this a practice older players or groups use to give us notice they are watching us? Or is it a way people attempt to lure others into aggressive action? Can someone please explain why they may have done this?

Thanks for any input that might shed some light on motive for me. - Meagh

The Sovereign counterclaim by Boromir from Erechat this location has been rescinded. As this was your Sovereign Square, this rescindment takes effect immediately.

Edit: I should note that I suspect that these players likely acted of their own initiative in this... the only apparent collusion is between the two (perhaps maybe Boromir's alt is Morida?). This may not be the policy of Valar or Dlords, i've contacted both alliance leaders to find out. Even at that however I'm still interested in the motive behind this and if this is a common tactic in Illy.

You need a different title for your thread. Something more catchy.

Just Saying.

2 person sent army at the same location and then made strange claim at exactly the same time?
I believe it is a server error.

lol maybe... but before i try to make some inflammatory / catchy title i'd want to know more about it.

My first thought is that they got the coordinates mixed up or something like the map bug happened again, but the coordinates aren't anywhere near any of their cities. If it's a bug, has this kind of error been known to happen before? It being a bug or server error makes alot more sense then deliberate action on the part of the players... unless they've been drinking too much kool-aid...

I've submitted a support petition on this.   i'm going to operate under the assumption that it is a server error unless someone verifies that this is a ploy that has been used in Illy by players in the past or one of the players says they actually initiated the action...

Imagine the sov maintenance!  I'm looking forward to hearing from GM ThunderCat about what really happened.

This speculation just occurred to me:  Mayhap the devs were testing the Chancery of Estates building ... to see if it worked as described?  No idea really, but would be interesting if it were true.

Wasn't there an option on Sov that of you put an army on someone else's claim you would collect their Sov upkeep up to the armies carry capacity

This exact same thing happened to a friend of mine, Belthazor. Was Boromir as well

I believe this mechanic is not currently functioning - I imagine it is on the 'to-do' list somewhere.

I had a few armies sitting on Sov Squares of Rurik of the East for 14 days each.  None brought home any goodies when they left the Sov Sqs.  They were on Blockade orders - I don't know if this would matter.

My understanding was that armies must be on "occupation" orders to perform/influence any kind of action involving sov claims... feel free to correct me though cos I can't see it written anywhere.

Odd seeing as Boro is trecking in the mountains and I have not been in to sit his account today.

Either a glitch or someone is out to paint VALAR in a bad light again......

Why would this be anti-VALAR propoganda Darkwords...?

It is also aimed at a DLords player, and last time I checked DLords and VALAR weren't exactly bed buddies.

If what you say is true Creat, then you may have answered your own question there, mate. If the two alliances are a having tiff then others may have stepped in to create a bit of pnp mischief. Wouldn't be the first time.

Speaking of which I haven't seen DR make a post in this thread yet

The plot thickens...

Indeed I am inclined to believe both VALAR and DLords' assertions that neither player is online or sent this mission... I also find it extremely far-fetched that this is some kind of propoganda or trouble stirring mechanism though...

Firstly - how exactly is this supposed to offend anyone? The player affected can reclaim the land very easily for no additional cost.

Secondly - this is such an entirely random and unlikely thing to happen (2 unconnected players both counter-claiming the same sov square from a 3rd unconnected party on the other side of the map) that I cannot believe your average troll would make that up.

Which leaves me leaning towards the "It's a bug" explanation... submit a petition and check it anyways.

I am not saying it is propaganda, but that it must either be a glitch or propaganda.

It is probably a glitch, but then with the back handed tactics some people seem to Troll the VALAR with it would not surprise me if someone wanted to increase tensions between these two alliances.

We are killing each others troops at the moment afterall.

Hi all,

I can confirm that there is a display glitch in the email itself - misidentifying a 'counter-claim' party and location during a server negative resource clean-up process.

Both players did, indeed, lose some sovereignty - but one of the players' names and location pairing was incorrectly on the mail sent to the other.

I'm working on a fix to this as we speak.

Regards,

SC

The Dlord member has been inactive (as stated by Lord Kilotov) and thus no one has been in her account to even make a 'claim'.  I have already explained this, amoung other things to initial poster in question.

Additionally, though Dlord and Valar are not 'buddies', to my knowledge we have no personal grudge against nor toward each other. Valar can correct me if I'm wrong, but from Dlords side we have no personal issues against them.

@ StormCrow - Who was the initiating person, if you would be so kind as to inform us?

OK, this has been fixed, in 3 areas:

1. Players who aren't actually having sovereignty abandoned won't receive a message about it
2. Players who are having sovereignty abandoned now receive a sensible email explaining that this is what is happening, as opposed to some plainly wrong nonsense about non-existent counterclaims

Apologies for the confusion, and to all concerned parties.  It was actually a nice bug to have reported to us, as it would have been a nightmare to have found without your help and Petitions.

Many thanks.

SC
