Oh and the defensive spells I had in place have also dissapeared, ,,,,,,, and ' THATS MAGIC'? I will try Paul and Debbie next time :O)

What spell did you try to cast? And what spell you cast on your city?

Most spells appear to have a maximum range, so therefore you cannot cast a spell if the target is beyond that range. Spells from the same school do not overlap, so only one of each type can be cast upon a certain target.

It was the rusting blight, offensive, .it said it was available so i typed 2 different nearby cities but the names appeared for a second then disappeared, so I assumed the spells could not be cast. But then I scrolled down and saw the cast spell hilighted, but it then messaged that I had blighted my own city!!!, and the previous nourishment spell I had in place prior to trying to cast the blight,, had been cancelled. There was a message saying that..... the spell had fizzled.

More people who think its strange you cant see who is casting a spell on ur town? Seems kinda strange to me a player can keep annoying u without any possibility to do something against it because you don't know who sent it.

I too can not cast any spells on other players.
Mage Tower Level 9 8 Geomancy spells available to me 6 runes spells available to me
When ever i try casting any gift spells on Alliance or anyone it fails
I input name of player, a blue appears, i choose correct player, players name inters box as well as city name in city box, but a split second later both name and city name disappear. I have even tried casting gifts on players only 7 miles away and same .
Am I doing something wrong or have I not completed something.

Ok Drycer.
When you input the name and you select the player. The name and city disappears yes. But it remembers the target.
So when you input name and select player and everything disappears, pick the spell and then click prepare spell and then cast spell.
It should work this way.

Ok as I said, i choose player and city and it disappears. I went to spell and could not find any location chosen, it did say foreign city, so I continued process, and it succeeded.
Thx, I would not have continued the process without your comments.

Is there any way of discovering who has cast a spell against you. I currently have "persistent rain cast against my town and I have no idea who cast it.

I thought there was something coming that was supposed to fix this.
See at the end of this link.. I had a mysterious rendez-vous with GM Stormcrow.. I guess he's keeping me waiting, is he?

Yes, apologies MFrance; have been side-tracked by those damnable blasted Diplomatic Quests which seem to be messing with my head every time I start to pin them down.
Some of the changes to magic (including the one I alluded to) are still things I want to get onto live this week.

Cast another blight spell on you from another city, that has higher spellpower. And then cancel it.

I'm familiar with the Identify Caster spell. This is great for finding out who cast a persistent effect spell on you, but what about instant effect spells? How does one defend against those? It seems like we are at their mercy and can't even find out who cast it so we can retaliate.

Can't. The only way to tell is to examine anyone nearby to see if they might have the infrastructure to cast the spell, and if they cast it repeatedly, use spies to watch their book(and other resources) count. Even then, you can't be 100% sure.
