As it asks...
We do have Alliance Forums and Alliance Chat in the works, and it would be easy enough to extend out to ingame, serverwide (optional) chat.
There is, obviously, a concern over moderation which would have to be addressed.
But, conceptually, how do people feel about this?
Best,

I would find in-game personal instant messaging more useful, and better suited for how personal email is often used.

Yeah, having seen live in-game chat on Evony, I would vote "no" for public chat (if that's what you're proposing). I don't like the feeling that I'm participating in an experiment involving a bunch of trained monkeys who get food pellets in return for mashing the buttons on a keyboard.

I think it would be great if you used the "Channel" approach (a la Eve online), so folks could set up private channels. In lieu of that, I think HM is right about more of an IM approach...

Now that there is global chat and alliance chat, we need to be able to do a private chat with individuals, not mail, but a chat window where we can target a player. Also, an Ignore list for both chat and mail, although so far I haven't encountered any chowderheads, I'm sure as the game grows they will show up.

I'm happy with Alliance chat conceptually and want to use it, but there are currently two major problems: 1) There's no room for it, and no way to temporarily minimize it without having to to back in menus to re-enable it. 2) It is having a devastating impact on browser performance. Response times and memory usae are both increasing almost linearly with the number of page loads that include it.
One solution addresses both issues. Could we have our chat in a different window/tab? Preferably it should be organized in a manner that fits comfortably into a browser sidebar.
Also, the bottom line of chat is obscured by the input field. I presume the input field is being specified with a very small font, but not all browsers allow dropping input fields below their typical size.

Hi. Some chat-based user-stories for the devs.
- Allow multiple chat windows.
- Make multiple chat windows available in a single window with tabs.
- Make chat window(s) minimisable.
- Make chat tabs "poppable" to seperate windows.
- Make chat fonts customisable.
- Ability to 'block' players, you dont see their chat. (/ignore)
- Ability to send private messages to players. (/send, /tell, /say, etc.)
- Ability to create private channel, with all associated funtionality. (by invitation only, password, etc.)
- Chat system remembers your preferences for windows, fonts, channels, ignores, etc.
Any further ideas, please follow the numbering system.

In general, concerning this topic, I can say that I have played many other MMORPGs and OSGs and there is an abundance of improvements one can draw from games like Tribal Wars and Grepolis that can be applied here.
I am new in this game and see that the last post is like 7 months old.
The question I want to post here is: How long does newby protection last or where else could I find out about it?
