'ello good inhabitants of Illyriad, Painterman here:)

Thought I'd share some progress shots of the avatars I made for the game. When they decided they wanted female avatars, I was so lucky as be asked to do them.
I wanted these illustrations to have a free painterly feeling to them, with a touch of art nouveau at the same time as I wanted people to get a assosiation to midieval illustration through the lightly stiff pose (allthough I just had to make the orchs really meanicingSmile).
They are all done in Photoshop CS4 with a Wacom Intous 4. They were really fun to paint:)

First lady out is the dwarfs.

Discovered the head was to small, so I resized it. In the background you see the early experiment with a wall. Was quickly scrapped though:)

The mountains is in place, and final detailng in progress.

And the final version

Next out is the lady of the elfs. I wanted her to be proud, slender and sexy. And magical of course:)
Blocking in the pose, clothes and accessories.

Refinement of the lady herself

Then I started to flesh out the wood in the background

And the final. In this size you can see the magic light of the bow and arrows in its full.

Next out is the lady of the humans. Her I first and foremost wanted to look proud and a tad cold looking.
Very stiff pose:)

Then we firgured she might need a shield. (Look at the arm holding the shield. Something didnt feel right, I just couldnt for the life of me figure out what:))

Ok, here I had figured out what was wrong. The pose of the arm made her upper arm waaaay to long LOL:) I have also started to flesh out the lions head on the shield.

Getting the trees in place and starting to detail more.

And the final details. Now the armour has got some scatches and wear and tear from battle aswell.

Last lady aout is the meanacing lady orch:)
Here is the initial idea

I was happy with the pose, but I wanted to make the orchs of Illyriad a bit different from what you usually see. So I gave her a fourth joint in her legs. This also made her look more beastly which is what I assosiate with orchs.

The dark wood's in place.

And the final version
