Well, like EOM Harry is a poet I'm a storywriter at heart. I thought I'd make a Story of what happens in my past.

Nokigon’s beginnings

The boy was running.

He could hear the panting of men behind him. He knew that they’d kill him, if only for the slight charge of overhearing their plans. He had to run for his life- but he was tiring.

Run. Run. Run.

He could hear them getting closer. They were men, after all, and he was a boy not yet reached thirteen. Soon they would reach him, and his short life would end.

Run. Run. Run.

The boy risked a look over his shoulder. He could see them, three men with scars on their faces. He could even see the things that would end his time in Illyria- cruel, short knives.

Run. Run. Run!

The men were nearly upon him. They wielded cruel, short blades- deadly ones. He upped the pace, but he couldn’t outrun them.

Run! Run! RUN!

If he stopped for a second they’d reach him. As it was… the boy wondered whether it would be quick.

RUN! RUN! RU-

A man had grabbed him from behind, cutting off his desperate flight. He attempted to fight, knowing it was hopeless. The man pulled him to face him. He saw the scarred face, the pitiless eyes, the black hair and the brand on his cheek.

The knife readying to stab.

Thwack!

An arrow had suddenly flashed through the air and landed with a smack in between the man’s eyes. He gave a strangled cry and fell down.

The boy fell to the floor, and then jumped back up. He saw a shadowy figure leap at the remaining people- and there was at least six- and slaughter them in seconds. His sword looked like a bolt of silver lightning from the gods, come down to Illyria to punish the mortals. And once the terrible killing was done, the shadowy figure turned back to the young boy and stepped into the light. The boy studied the face of his saviour, and felt a flicker of relief.

The man was young, 23 at the very most. A long scar went sideways across his face, but it was old. There was enough scars on his face to suggest military experience, but not enough to suggest he was constantly being struck.

His eyes were blue, and had a hard line of steel running through them. They were the eyes of a man that had killed, and been hurt many times before. Yet they had a soft hint of compassion somewhere therein, along with a touch of pity and sympathy. He clearly felt deeply for this young boy.

“Finished staring?” the man asked gently. The boy nodded softly.

“Good. Now run, boy. There may be more people nearby. Run to your home, and don’t stop running until you are in the house with the door locked. Have you got that?” The boy nodded again, still in a daze.

“Then run!” The tone of command in his voice brooked no argument. The boy started to go, then stopped. He turned back.

“Wait! I don’t even know your name!” The man looked him in the eyes, and a small light of approval flickered there.

“Nokigon Cediris. Captain of the Guard in Mortifera. You?”

“Tukkymukky.”

Nokigon nodded, a small smile coming up at his lips. “Nice to meet you, Tukkymukky. Now RUN!” He actually shouted the last few words, and as if by a spell Tukkymukky was running. Running for his life. He risked a glance over his shoulder, and saw Nokigon readying himself once more.

To be continued…

Since the last version had massive issues, I'll type it all here:

Nokigon watched the boy run off into the distance. He quickly commited the name to memory -Tukkymukky?' and then span around. He drew his sword.
He smiled quietly to himself. These people were little more than thugs. They could not match against the greatest fighter in all of Tamirin.
He quietly thought back to where it had all begun...
For a while, all had been quiet in Mortifera. The Circle of Five, one of the principal enemies of the Kingdom of Illyria, had not tried to take over for nearly a year. Either they were trying someplace else, or they were planning some huge heinous plan. Why Mortifera was such a popular target, he had no clue. Not even the Citadel of King Sigurd was such a popular target- although there was one rumour...
Nokigon pushed that out of his mind, and forced himself to remember. There may be something that he'd missed.
But then, suddenly, in the last month there had been sightings. Members of the Marauding Skullsplitters had been sighted around town, and further investigation had revealed that they had been enlisted by the Circle of Five, to provide both espionage and eventually a surprise attack. The job fell to Nokigon to... end the holiday.
But again, why? There were tales in the past of how the Circle had assisted the King in the past- the Great Marsh of Fygris was supposedly created by the Circle when they defended the King from attack against the Barbarians. And they aren't even properly attacking now, since there had been no reports of them combining their powers to attack. No, they just seemed to be making a nuisance out of themselves.
The sound of feet on stone snapped him out of his reverie. Although he had defeated 6 Skullsplitters, there were still a good 24 odd remaining. And he couldn't defeat that number on his own. He lit a fire on the ground, to lower the possibility of surprise attacks (although it gave away his position) and blew the horn on his belt.
He heard the boots suddenly double their pace. All he could do now was to try and hold them off until reinforcements arrived.
The first Orc appeared from an alleyway. Grimly, Nokigon dived forward, his sword sweeping in murderous arcs.

Update:

The Orc roared a battle cry and lifted his axe in the air. He was far too slow, however, for Nokigon's lightning fast sweeps- in a second the Orc was lying on the floor with his throat cut open and the contents of his stomach spilling over the floor.
Another one leapt out- and then immediately fell back again as he got a blade in his eye.
But then, after the first two men Nokigon was forced to slowly retreat, cutting down one- then another- then another as more orcs piled out of the alley. He hurled his torch at the orcs, and then leapt back. He used the confusion he had created to draw a dagger and throw it at an orc. It fell to the floor.
But he couldn't keep this up. He dived forward, sword spinning in a deadly attack. One, two, three four orcs fell before they even realised he was there- but then the weapons jabbed and he leapt back, lest he be skewered by a spear.
Nokigon wanted to scream for his troops. Where were they?!
Suddenly, he realised that he was at the end of the alley. If he retreated any further he would be in the courtyard- and therefore he could be surrounded.
All of Nokigon's experience screamed at him to stop retreating therefore, so he dived forward once. He flashed a deadly overhand blow, splitting an Orc's skull. Then his deadly sweeping blows took down two more, and a careful thrust took another. Then an onslaught of blows forced him to retreat again. And, with a flicker of horror, he realised that there was nothing that could stop him from entering the courtyard.
He saw a flicker of grim triumph in the lead orc's eyes. He desperately wanted to kill the lone human, he who had killed so many of his comrades. The expression was abruptly taken away by surprise, as Nokigon's sword cut into his throat. And then, Nokigon was in the courtyard.
In seconds, he was surrounded. 9 Orcs. Too many to handle when surrounded.
Nokigon got ready to fight, knowing it was pointless. The orc smiled. He drew breath to cry the order to attack- but his voice was abruptly cut off. He fell to the floor- arrow bristling in his back.
The other orcs fell to the floor under the hail of arrows. A man dressed in gleaming chain mail stepped forward. With a flicker of relief, Nokigon recognised him. It was Doom, one of his knights. He was safe.
"Took you long enough." Nokigon said, with a humourous tone, and together the two men walked back towards the Barracks.

Update:

Nokigon gently opened his eyes, feeling the relief that can only be created by a hard day's work followed by a solid sleep. And you know a lot about that, he thought to himself ruefully. Groaning, he dragged his unresponsive body out of his bed and wrapped himself in a comfortable silk robe. Stroking it gently, he smiled. The average Captain of the Guard's wage is quite high anyway, but Nokigon's is higher than most because of the simple fact that he's great at his job. Earlier that year, Nokigon had once single handedly held a tower against marauding hordes of Blood Reavers- and lived to tell the tale.
A knock on the door interrupted his reminiscences. He turned and called gently "Enter."
The door opened, revealing Doom. Doom walked in, raising his eyebrows at Nokigon's half naked state. "Lord Gothic Dreson has requested your presence, sir." He looked again at Nokigon. "You might want to get dressed before you go." He murmured. Saluting, he turned and left. But before he reached the door, he was stopped by Nokigon's voice. "Doom?" Doom turned, fighting a grin.
"Just because you saved my bacon last night doesn't mean that you can cheek me. Now get your sorry hide out of here!" Nokigon couldn't stop himself from smiling. Doom bowed mockingly. "Sir!"
He turned and left, leaving Nokigon to prepare himself for a mental confrontation to the worst Lord in all Tamirin.

*
Nokigon knelt before the small throne in the great hall, and the not-quite-so great man sitting in the throne.
Gothic was a man who looked as if he had spent his entire life living indoors. Compared to Nokigon's healthy light brown tan, Gothic was a bleached white. His black hair seemed to further emphasise his deathly pallor.
Being a knight, Nokigon had a healthy contempt of cowards and Gothic ticked all the boxes. He had never seen the man ever touch a sword, let alone draw one. His muscles were virtually non-existant and he spent far more time sitting and reading than riding, fighting or doing other activities. And worst of all, the Lord had about as much diplomatic ability as an Orc.He had only gotten his position because he was King Sigurd's cousin.
The man was a living example of why people should not gain titles through their inheritance.
"My Lord." Nokigon, on the other hand, was an expert politician, and he kept all trace of his true feelings from his voice.
"I have called you here for a reason, Nokigon. Rise." Goth's voice was slimy, and nasal. It sent shivers down Nokigon's spine.
"The Circle have sent a message." He looked straight into Nokigon's eyes. "They want you to meet them at the Great Hill by 3 o'Clock. Or they combine their powers and rip Mortifera of the face of this earth."
Nokigon closed his eyes, feeling the horror of the situation. He quietly asked himself the question: "Why me?" And then he mentally slapped himself, and spoke.
"The answer is obvious, my Lord. I will saddle up and ride north immediately."
Gothic nodded, not even bothering to hide his relief. Nokigon knew that the man would've ordered him to go without a moment's thought if he'd thought that he wouldn't have gone by his own choice. His contempt rose. Nokigon bowed, and marched away without bothering to be dismissed.

Update- third in one day. Hell yeah.

Nokigon stormed into the stable, still livid at Gothic's careless behaviour. The man was a selfish, arrogant fool. Nokigon knew that if he'd been asked to go to a possibly fatal meeting to five people who could twist the elements at will, he would be unlikely to agree- and if he did he most certainly would not have agreed so quickly!
He walked forward a bit more gently now, viewing the beautiful creature that was his horse.
Soderquist was already saddled, thanks to a message sent ahead by a helpful groom. He was a white creature, with flecks of grey. He appeared docile but Nokigon knew first hand that in battle he was as deadly as any weapon or soldier. He was faster than any horse that Nokigon knew. He had cost a pretty penny- Nokigon didn't regret him for a second.
An almost imperceptible sound caused Nokigon to whip around- his soldiering years had made him cautious. Doom was standing by the door, and the look in his eyes made Nokigon know immediately what he wanted.
"No." Nokigon's tone brooked no argument.
Doom was not put off. "If I don't go then you will be in even more danger than you already are. If you won't let me go with you then I'll just follow from a distance. And I saved your life last night. Have you forgotten so easily?"
Nokigon surveyed his defiant young friend, and knew that he was not to be dissuaded. "Fine. But if I get attacked, you run."
Doom nodded. Nokigon knew that he would immediately disobey this. He sighed, and mounted up. Along with Doom he rode off, out of Mortifera and to the north, where the Great Hill stood.

The great hill is a huge hill that was not quite a mountain, yet really too large to be known as a hill. It was the sight of a great battle- one of King Sigurd's ancestors, King Heforn, and his army had withstood an attack by Dragonkin there. It had been renamed Great Hill in his honour- although the name was not an imaginative one. Nokigon shivered. Although it may just be his imagination, he thought that he could just see five forbidding figures at the peak, one surrounded by fire, one by water, one by howling winds, one by earth and one... one seemed to ripple, as if not really there. Nokigon shook his head to clear it of such fantasies, and without a word, galloped forward. To what may soon be his grave...

A bit of a shorter update this one- not much time. If you want to see anything in my story then send me a message- DON'T post here since it will ruin the surprise for others.

Update:

Nokigon was very nearly at the peak of the Hill.
He stopped, to allow himself the luxury of thinking for a second. He turned around in his saddle, to view Doom in his own horse. The man was looking grim, but Nokigon could see the slight image of fear hovering around his face.
"There's still time." Nokigon pointed out to Doom. "You can still get out of here."
Doom's face immediately closed. "We've been through this, Nok." And without another word he set his spurs to his horse and charged forward. Nokigon shook his head and rode forward to catch up.
Within seconds, they were facing the Circle of Five.
Shamaster Maldak was an orc that commanded the element that is Fire. The air around him rippled from a heat haze- the man was literally boiling. The Orc had a hard, aggressive look in his eyes.
Geomancer Herrolf was a dwarf- an even shorter one than normal. His eyes, beard and hair were all the exact colour of dirt- his eyebrows mud. The ground he stood on rippled, and shifted.
Enchantress Elissa of the Elves was as beautiful as the sky. Her light blue eyes, framed by her blonde hair, were the exact colour of the morning sky. Her clothes seemed to ripple, as if there was a strong breeze- and there was none.
Archmage Stendas was a seemingly young and innocent looking human, who's eyes were as blue as the deepest ocean. The ground he stood on seemed slightly moist, as after a rain. And there had been none.
Faer Smyss, of the Fey... Nokigon could not see her well enough to describe her. She seemed to ripple- one minute she was like a ghost, the next a Fey. She seemed insubstantial, like a ghost.
The rulers of Fire, Earth, Air, Water and Time. Nokigon felt an urge to fall to his knees and grovel, since he was so inferior to these entities. To fight this urge, he was blunt.
"What do you want from me?"
Five sets of eyebrows rose.
"You have passed our tests." Stendas' voice seemed innocent too.
Nokigon stared at him. "What tests?"
"Every attack that you have fought off was a test of your abilities." Elissa's voice was gentle and calming, but Nokigon was not to be calmed.
"You killed hundreds of people to... to TEST ME?!" Nokigon actually shouted the last words- being a Guard, he spent his whole life attempting to stand up against cruelty and abuse. "Why?"
"Because the task we have for you now is an important one." Maldak had a rough voice. "You must destroy a great threat to the Middle Kingdom."
"What threat?" Nokigon asked, confused.
"An army of Blood Reavers is camped in the north. You must wipe them out." This was Herrolf.
"Right. You want me to wipe out an entire army?"
"Yes. You can get help with it." Elissa added with a touch of humour.
Nokigon sighed. "Anything else?"
"Do not take this as a joke. They are a great threat to the world." Smyss' voice was dreamy, yet at the same time firm.
Nokigon looked at her, and she met his gaze. Nokigon nodded, and without another word him and Doom rode away.

Nokigon heard the solid rumble of hooves behind him.

He had quickly rode to Mortifera, told Gothic what was what and gathered a small army. Then, him and three hundred knights rode north, planning on attacking a small horde of Blood Reavers. Scouts kept constant update on the various factions' movements- especially the aggressive ones- and it had taken Nokigon precisely thirty seconds to find a nearby army. He had been following ever since.

Suddenly, the column turned a corner and the horde came into sight. Nokigon grinned broadly. Things were going well so far.

He roared the order to advance, and set his spurs to his own horse. He sped up gradually; he could taste the scent of victory in the air. The Blood Reavers were starting to panic; they were running ever faster, casting increasingly frequent glances over their shoulders as they run faster and faster in their ranks....

Wait a minute. In their ranks?

Nokigon could see that there was something wrong. As the orcs were panicked and running, not one of them had fallen out of their line. And not one had dropped his sword, or some other weapon.

Nokigon could smell a rat. There was only one thing for it.

"HALT!!!" He roared, in the voice that was trained to carry over the noise of a battlefield.

His men respected him greatly, and immediately halted. And a damn good thing too. The Blood Reavers chose that exact moment to whip around and thrust. The air directly in front of the horses suddenly became a forest of deadly spikes, as the Blood Reavers snapped into a painfully obviously rehearsed movement.

Nokigon cursed mentally. He realised that he had been careless, and the orcs had been expecting him. He called the order to retreat, and regroup, but as he turned around the full extent of the horror of this situation was revealed to him. Whilst he had been distracted, another, even larger army of Blood Reavers had came from the bushes around the corner, and had Nokigon flanked between two opposing forces. He closed his eyes briefly, allowing to let himself sink into the depths of this situation's horror. It was every commander's nightmare- flanked between two superior forces- and no way out. And then he snapped into action.

"DISMOUNT! WE'LL FIGHT IN A SHIELD WALL!"  Nokigon bellowed, and not one knight even thought of disobeying. Within seconds, the horses were in the centre of a tight shield wall, with the 100 knights on each side grim and determined. Nokigon sighed. They would sell their lives dearly.

But then came the sound of bowstrings.

From the woods come a huge hail of arrows. The orcs were taken completely by surprise. They were vulnerable, and Nokigon saw his chance.

"CHARGE!!!" And with a curdling war cry he mounted and in seconds had his forces galloping towards the startled orcs, stil being decimated by the storm of arrows. It was not long before the orcs, pushed to breaking point by this completely unexpected attack, broke and ran. Ran for their lives. And even then, the arrows did not stop. They were harassed, and harassed, until not one orc was left alive.

Nokigon turned away from the slaughter, and faced his savours. They were coming out of the forest, and although the mottled green cloaks they wear camouflaged them perfectly they were much more conspicuous in the open. They all held bows, and wore some other weapon- usually a sword. There was about three hundred of them.

The leader stepped forward, and flung back his hood. He had jet black hair, with white streaks. He had a scar on his lower lip, that to Nokigon's experienced eyes seemed to have been made by a dagger cut. There was no other scars, which gave a clear message to Nokigon- this man knows when to duck. His eyes were a deep, soft brown, with an unmistakeable light of humour in his eyes.

He held a bow, made out of pure yew. It had clearly been shown a lot of love and attention. At his side was a sword, and Nokigon could just see the glint of a blade hidden up his sleeve.

"I am Belthazor, Captain of the Rangers of the North. Guarding the borders of Wolgast. And you are?"

"Nokigon. Captain of the Palace Guard in Mortifera. I must say, your intervention was very timely and welcome. But why did you intervene?"

Belthazor flicked his eyebrows up. "The Blood Reavers posed a threat to Wolgast. It is my job to eliminate that threat."

Nokigon smiled slightly. "Well, I'm on a... mission, I suppose, to exterminate the Blood Reavers. And your assistance would be most helpful."

Belthazor was shaking his head. "That would be to leave my post. To leave Wolgast unprotected. I cannot do that."

Nokigon knew that there was no point arguing with him. "Well, I thank you again for saving me and my men. I hope that circumstances never mean that I am forced to face you on a battlefield with a sword in my hand."

"No. I would regret that."

Nokigon, on an impulse stepped forward and slapped the man on the back. They stepped away, neither realising that this would spark a friendship that would last until they were grey and old, until they had grandchildren and the days of their youth were distant memories in the setting sun.

Nokigon mounted his horse, and called the order to ride on. Meanwhile, Belthazor and his Rangers were already invisible in the green forest.

And another:

In the previous skirmish, 7 Knights had been put into a small wagon, where they would be returned home and buried in the Graveyard of Mortifera. A further 3 had been put out of action by injuries, and maybe 14 had been injured lightly. All in all, a pretty impressive sum after killing a good 700 orcs. 700 less to fight!

Nokigon looked back in his saddle, and surveyed the his little army. After his skirmish, word had been sent to him that reinforcements were coming- about five hundred knights from Keppen, captained by Doom, and then- this is where Nokigon got his big shock- King Sigurd had sent 300 knights from the Council of Illyriad's Royal Guard- the elite, of the elite.

Those knights were the greatest in Illyriad. They were handpicked. None of them was Nokigon's match (Nokigon was actually the sixth most prominent swordsman in Illyriad), but they were still fearsome warriors. Nokigon felt awed, and extremely proud when he thought of the immense responsibility placed into HIS hands. Nokigon could see a promising future ahead.

He frowned slightly. The knights should've arrived an hour ago. So where were they?

Another hour passed, and Nokigon was seriously worried. He turned in his saddle and called for the army to turn around. He would find them himself.

After a long ride, Nokigon turned a corner-and groaned. Doom had clearly been careless.

The Blood Reavers had heard about the reinforcements. They chose to do something about it. Around 1500 orcs were standing between the two armies- spears at the ready.

Nokigon cursed, then roared at the top of his voice to ready. Even the troops across from the blockade heard him, and they all saluted.

"AIM BOWS!" All troops in possession of a bow, crossbow, etc aimed their weapon carefully at the pure mass of orcs. "FIRE!"

The mass of arrows shot through the air, and fell gracefully to fall upon the orcs. A good three hundred fell.

"FIRE!" Another 100 fell, but the orcs were starting to form a tortoise, a well known military defensive move. It made them almost invulnerable to arrows- but it made them almost blind. It was an opportunity that couldn't be missed- Nokigon just hoped that Doom would follow his example.

Without a word (that would alert the orcs to his plan) Nokigon started to ride. He kept up the steady rain of arrows in an attempt to disguise his plans, and he saw in relief that Doom was following his example. He continued riding, throwing away his crossbow now and steadying his lance. He aimed the lance dead at a crack.

About 10 yards away, the orcs realised what they were doing and broke out of the tortoise. But they had no time to get in a defensive formations, and so were in an even more precarious situation when the knights struck.

Nokigon could physically feel the shock running along the ground. The heavy battlehorses hit the more or less defenceless orcs like a hammer, and the entire front line or orcs was thrown backwards. The knights kept moving, riding and slashing and cutting, until suddenly Nokigon, at the tip of a wedge of knights, broke through the blockade. He had breached them, and moments later Doom did the same. He looked back, and raised his eyebrows at the devastation behind him.

Almost all of the orcs were broken forms on the ground. Nokigon quickly looked, and reckoned that for every fifty orcs one knight had been killed- which is a very impressive figure. However, there was one small group of about 12 orcs standing around the standard of the Blood Reavers- and they weren't about to surrender. Nokigon and Doom, in identical movements, galloped towards them.

They didn't stand a chance.

About 5 minutes later, Nokigon was carefully wiping the blood off his blade, when a shadow appeared above him. He looked up. It was Doom.

"Where are we off to next then?"

Nokigon stared into the distance. "I think we should take the fight to them this time. We go... to Gajik Hinor"

Another update (hey, I'm bored!):

Gajik Hinor was a black, black city. The wall were made from pure black rock, the buildings were black and the orcs that manned the walls wore black clothing. In fact, the only thing that wasn't as black as night was the banner on the top of the keep- a strip of bright red. Red as blood, with a black Sickle in the centre.

Seeing that, Nokigon felt a flicker of hopelessness. How could he tear down an entire fortress?

"You don't need to destroy the fortress." Nokigon looked to his right, and rose an eyebrow at Doom. Doom was a serious help in the moments when Nokigon went into pessimistic mode- although Nokigon never told him that. It would make him almost unbearably smug.

"I think that the Circle will be satisfied if you kill the soldiers- and that snake, Tlachcog. Since they also will have reinforced Hinor, the city will be teeming with orcs, so therefore killing it's occupants would leave the Blood Reavers foundering."

"Yeah." And without another word Nokigon was moving. He called for the soldiers to be ready. They aimed their long range weapons. But just before they fired, a sight happened that sent every eyebrow shooting up in surprise.

The Blood Reavers were clearly unused to fighting in cities; they had therefore chosen to fight the Knights on their own term. They had formed a mass of orcs, standing around the gates, in a shield wall. Spears at the ready.

Nokigon surveyed this turn of events, and wondered whether it was a turn for the better- or the worse. The orcs had lost the advantage of the wall, but they were in the ground that suited them. Probably neither, Nokigon decided. At least it meant that the situation would be over quickly- for better or worse.

"FIRE!" The arrows shot through the air and felled a fair number of orcs- about 100. The orcs, however, had been expecting it and most arrows bounced off a hastily raised shield.

Another volley fired; another 50 fell. And another, another, another until 500 orcs had arrows in their sides. They were losing only a small portion of their men, however- and Nokigon knew that he had to simply go all out. That was, quite simply, the only thing that he could do.

But to horses, that wall of bristling spikes would be deadly. Therefore, Nokigon dismounted and called for them to attack on foot. Although the knights were now missing their favourite weapon- their horses- Nokigon was confident that their swordfighting abilities would compensate for both this and the fact that they were outnumbered. And without another word, they charged. Charged so it seemed that a steel river was flowing to wash away the puny orcs who dared to stand against the might of King Sigurd. Nokigon smashed into the wall with all the force of a mighty Daedalon.

The orcs fought back furiously, and for a moment it looked like the orcs would prevent the knights from breaking through the shield wall. But then Nokigon's blade bit once more, and a breach was formed in front of him. Nokigon quickly stepped through, his sword flashing left, and right,, until the gap was big enough for three men. Nokigon's knights filled the gap; widening it until finally the knights flowed through like a river breaking through a mighty dam. The forces were in the orc; suddenly, it was every man for himself.

Cut. Stab. Slash. Block. Nokigon's mind wasn't using conscious thought; it was running on instinct. Every moment of his entire career was being used to keep him alive.

Every moment wasn't good enough.

As Nokigon brutally cut an orc down to the ground, leaving him screaming in agony with a massive cut in his neck, Nokigon felt some sort of sixth sense warn him of someone behind him. But as Nokigon whipped around a shield rammed into him; Nokigon was sent flying onto the ground, temporarily stunned. Even startled, Nokigon recognised the man standing in front of him. Tlachcog. And then all thought was obscured by pure fear as Tlachcog stabbed downward with his sword. Nokigon went for a block, knowing he was too late.

But why had his sword cut through thin air? What had happened?

Nokigon opened his eyes to see Doom in  front of him. And Tlachcog had stabbed him.

Nokigon's thought were obscured by a pure fire of rage. Tlachcog looked at him and felt fear. But then a whistling storm of deadly, smashing blows from Nokigon. He nearly lost his life a thousand times; and then a smashing overhead blow shattered his blade into dozens of pieces. Tlachcog barely had time to stare numbly at his blade before a sword cut him in half.

Nokigon lowered the blade, feeling the rage drain out of him, and then he ran to Doom. Doom's face was grey, and the second Nokigon saw the huge wound in his chest Nokigon knew that he was going to die.

"You idiot!" Nokigon said gently, as he held Doom's head. Doom smiled gently. "Guess this is it."

"Nokigon's vision was obscured by a film of tears. "No! No you can't die! I- just can't-" Nokigon could not go on.

Doom smiled gently. "Take... care... of... yourself." And then a great sigh came from him and he died.

Nokigon stared at him, and gently closed Doom's eyes. He was conscious of his knights slaughtering the Blood Reeavers, of them surrendering now Tlachcog is dead. But Nokigon didn't care. He leant over Doom's body- and wept.

Gajik Hinor was no more. With a black rage that frightened all around him, Nokigon had ordered that the town be ripped down, brick by brick. With no-one around to stop them, the work was completed in hours. Nokigon set fire to the remains, and when this was finished he sowed the ground with salt. Nothing would grow there anymore.
Nokigon then ordered all the prisoners to be gathered into a circle. When Nokigon faced them, he felt that black rage again, that had been sparked by Doom's death, and he very nearly roared out the order to kill them all.
But that went against everything he'd ever stood for. If he called those orders he would be condemning him to two facts. That the eyes of those he had, quite simply, murdered, would haunt his dreams for the rest of his life. Also- any god, any guardian angel that looked over him, would forsake him the day that he lost his humanity.
However, his black hate would not allow him to do nothing. Therefore, he called forward the second-in-command. He ordered him to kneel before him. And to the horror to all who stood before him, he beheaded the orc with one mighty stroke. And then he had picked up the head, and thrusted it forward for all to behold.
He had then sent them all down to Gajik Sennur, and gave them a message. If they attack Illyria, then he would return. And he would cause a genocide.

In the end, 1000 knights had killed about 3500 orcs- but with devastating consequences. Theyhad lost about half of their forces in the end- many had been Nokigon's personal friends. And, although it was selfish to say this, the death that hit Nokigon easily the hardest was that of Doom. Doom had saved his life on more than one occasionWith a mighty bang, the air in front; he had been the voice that had provided help and comfort; Nokigon didn't know what he'd do now he was dead. It most certainly wouldn't be easy.
Nokigon was at the head of a slow, disordered column. He was tired, tired to his very soul. When he got back to Mortifera, the first thing that he would do would be to slump onto his bed and sleep. He had taken slight wounds on this campaign; but far, far greater blows had been hit at his heart. It was grieving; Nokigon just wanted to forget for a few sacred hours.
But clearly the Lords of Illyria weren't done with him yet. With a mighty roar the air in front of him ripped. A mighty.... rift, for want of a better word, had appeared in front of him. Nokigon knew without thinking that he must not stare at this rift. In the few seconds that he had snatched, looking at the rift, he had seen ancient civcilisation. Powerful armies, attacking each other like dogs over scraps of meat. Mighty kings; one minute young and handsome, the next old and decrepit. And he had seen something else, too.... Some sort of future. People were marching at each other, and there was bangs and people fell to the floor. But for the present... for one, one gleaming second Nokigon saw himself. Gleaming. Handsome. With medals, and a castle. Nokigon knew he was seeing his own future.
But then his common sense kicked in, and he looked away. But the images were burnt into his mind, and Nokigon realised that theu would stay with him... forever. And then the rift vanished, and standing there was Faer Smyss, with her far too perfect face still rippling and vanishing. She spoke quickly:
"When you get back, report immediately to the Great Hill. Don't forget." And with a blinding flash of light, she was gone.
Nokigon looked around, and realised that no-one else had seen. They were going on as if nothing had ever happened. Nokigon felt privileged, and with his back a little straighter he rode on.
As it turned out, he was wrong. A loud whistle drew his attention to the side of the road- and he grinned. Belthazor was there, on a beautiful white horse. He rode over. His eyes told Nokigon that he'd seen- full of awe, and wonder. Nokigon spoke first.
"I guess this means that they want you to come along as well." Belthazor shook his head, still amazed. "Who am I to disagree? I'm off duty now for a week anyway." He added thoughtfully. Nokigon nodded, and they trotted off into the morning sun.

The Great Hill hadn't changed in the slightest. The trees were still there, the wind still blew in the same way- even the faint glimpse of the Circle was identical. In a way, Nokigon was thankful for that. It made it seem like nothing had changed, that he hadn't lost 500 of his men. Only he had.
"Very ominous. I don't know whether I'd be able to get used to that...." Belthazor was sounding awestruck. Nokigon glanced at him. The man was already acting as a substitute for Doom, and although he wouldn't replace him- ever- he appreciated the gesture.
"I can tell you I haven't. Come on, let's go."

*
If the Great Hill was unchanged, then the Circle was identical. NOTHING had changed- everything was precisely as he remembered them, down to tiny locks of hair. He supposed that that was what happened with immortals. Time slowed down around them...
Nokigon suddenly noticed that whilst most people were watching him, Elissa was far more interested in Belthazor. And on reflection, Belthazor seemed very interested in her as well.
Nokigon smiled inwardly. Although he was currently uninterested in a romantic engagement, which along with the fact that he'd never met the right woman left him firmly single, he was certainly not one to prevent others from something like that. He just hoped Belthazor would be happy.
"I will be the first to say well done." This was Maldak. "Apart from an initial... mishap, you have done very well. Effectively crippled the Blood Reavers, and that parting message will certainly scare them."
"Indeed. And that nasty ambush at the beginning will serve as a future lesson to you. Without Belthazor's timely intervention you would not be here today." Elissa's voice was even more dreamy when she mentioned Belthazor.
"But this was not why we called you here today. We did want to congratulate you, but we also have a proposal for you. From the highest authority himself."
Nokigon took a while to realise who he meant. "King Sigurd?" Nokigon gasped. "What does he want with me?"
Faer Smyss spoke. "We don't know. He wants to meet you, and he wants to make you an offer. I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine it's a position in his army."
Nokigon was speechless. This was something he'd always dreamed of- and he was only 23! This was the high point of his career. He nodded, and quietly turned his horse around. But before he left, a voice stopped- well, not him.
"Oh, and Belthazor?" Elissa's voice was mischievous. "We're not too far from Aeris, here. Come visit me sometime. I'll be waiting." She winked, and turned around. Nokigon grinned and rode off with the dumbstruck Belthazor.

Nokigon carefully watched Belthazor's eyes, waiting for some sort of hint that would give away his movements. It came, lightning fast.

Belthazor's sword seemed to move of it's own accord as it flashed out of his sheath and came whistling down at Nokigon's skull.

But Nokigon was equally fast. His shield blocked the weapon, leaving his sword open to stab at Belthazor's torso. But his opponent was wickedly fast, faster than any other opponent he'd ever faced, and his sword was sent bouncing away.

Nokigon used his momentum to spin, however, and flash a deadly strike at Belthazor's neck. But Belthazor's speed saved him, and Nokigon's sword went flashing through mid air.

Hell! He's good! Nokigon knew that one mistake, one careless movement could get him killed. But Nokigon was a soldier. There was nothing he enjoyed more than an honourable fight against a good opponent, and this ticked both boxes. And as Belthazor's sword flashed at his ear, Nokigon stopped day dreaming.

He leapt forward in a confident attack, his sword moving almost too quickly for the eye to see. But Belthazor blocked each one. Not one blow got inside his defence; not one even came close. Therefore, Nokigon realised he would have to do the unexpected.

Nokigon roared a war cry and feinted at Belthazor's neck, then his leg, then struck at his sword hand.

Belthazor eventually took the bait. He didn't fall for the first feint; but he did the second. Thrown off balance by expecting a blow that never came, he was completely unprepared for the blow that knocked his sword out of his hand. And then Nokigon's sword was pressing against his neck.

Nokigon grinned. "Yield?" he asked. Belthazor grinned as well- too confidently. Nokigon looked down to find Belthazor's knife pressing into his stomach.

"I thought a draw." Belthazor joked. Nokigon nodded, and they both withdrew. Then they burst out laughing.

"How did you do that? That was fantastic!" Belthazor asked the second he got his breath back.

"Oh, I don't know. That was the best swordfight I've had for a long time." Nokigon grinned broadly.

"Oh, come on. You never even broke a sweat." Belthazor said self-disparagingly. Nokigon opened his mouth in mock horror, and pointed a finger at one of his many sweat patches.

"And what is that, exactly?" Nokigon asked, with mock retort.

Belthazor grinned. "Dribble."

Nokigon shook his head disparingly. Then he became serious.

"Where are you going to go now?"

Belthazor stared into space. "I think that I'll spend the night here, in Mortifera. We can go our separate ways in the morning." Belthazor met Nokigon's eyes, smiling. "And Elissa and I have an appointment I simply can't miss."

Nokigon grinned in response. "I'm sure you can't."

Nokigon stood up. "Anyway, I have to see Gothic right now."

Belthazor raised an eyebrow. "Don't be too hard on him."

Nokigon smiled. But his eyes were bleak.

*

Nokigon strode into the Great Hall, and felt a flicker of humour as he witnessed the shock of Lord Gothic.

"Nokigon!" Gothic said, angry now that he'd gotten over his shock. "You should really introduce yourself next time. Anyway, welcome back. You're dismissed."

Nokigon stared at him, feeling blood roaring in his ears. He couldn't believe that someone could be so uncaring. This had gone too far.

"What about my report?"

Gothic waved his hand airily. "Doesn't matter."

"Don't you want to know who has died?" Nokigon hissed.

Gothic looked up. "I said it doesn't matter, Nokigon. And I also said you're dismissed. So get out."

Nokigon spoke then. Each word fell merciless and cold like a hammer blow. "People died out on the fields in front of Gajik Hinor, Gothic. Real people. People I know. That you know. Many were my friends. And you have the cheek to sit there and say it DOESN'T MATTER?!"

Gothic's eyes blazed with anger. "You watch your tongue, Nokigon!"

"Oh, you should watch yours, Gothic. Because I'm reporting to King Sigurd himself tomorrow. And your attitude is not going to go unmentioned. I won't rest until Mortifera is rid of you."

Nokigon stared with hate into Gothic's eyes. Then he stormed out.

Nokigon saddled up and rode away from Mortifera, Belthazor beside him, in a surprisingly good mood bearing in mind that he'd just told his ultimate superior that he wouldn't rest until 'Mortifera was rid of him'. He had a feeling of freedom, and bliss- as if a great weight had been lifted from him. Which, he supposed, it had. And he meant every word. The day that Gothic was no longer Lord of Mortifera was not a day too soon.

He and Belthazor rode in companionable silence for a while, until they reached a cross roads. From here, Belthazor would continue south east; whilst Nokigon would go east for his appointment with royalty. They faced each other.

Nokigon could see the wind, pulling gently at Belthazor, pulling towards Aeris; but at the same time it gently pushed him away. Nokigon smiled faintly. Elissa was certainly eager!

But Belthazor was going to be his for a few seconds yet, and he drew breath to speak.

"Well, I guess this is it. Nice meeting you." Nokigon said, smiling slightly sadly. Belthazor nodded.

"I'll still keep in touch- still write to you, and who knows? Maybe we'll meet each other again."

Nokigon nodded, and with that they turned and went their separate ways. Neither looked back.

*

It was the next day. Nokigon had stayed for the night in Hastelbury, a Trade Hub belonging to the Council of Illyria. He had been travellling for three hours now, and he then rode to the top of some sharp crags. Nokigon whistled in appreciation.

Centrum. The dead centre of Illyria. The capital. The place where the Council of Illyria meet on the summer and winter solstice, where King Sigurd presides over his Kingdom. And what a place it was!

It was tiered, creating a look somewhat like a cone. The wall's were made out of pristine white marble, fit together so flawlessly that it appeared as if there was not a single blemish. Somehow, Nokigon had a feeling this was the case.

The gate was made out of pure steel, and had been reinforced by Iron. Planted into the centre of the gate was the Council's personal symbol- an elaborate I, surrounded by coiling flowers. This symbol was repeated on several flags, around the city.

At the very top, there was a beautiful, serene palace. No, not a palace, Nokigon thought to himself. A Senate.

As Nokigon watched, the sun rose from behind Nokigon, and bathed the citadel (for it was too powerful to be called a city) in a soft, butter yellow light.

Finally, Nokigon gently took his eyes away from the beautiful sight and rode on. It would not do to keep King Sigurd waiting, after all.

Nokigon was about twenty feet from Centrum, when it happened.
A mighty storm gathered, with lightning powerful enough to kill twenty men. Fire had risen up from the very earth, and the earth was rippling. Water had appeared, and the wind was howling like a thousand wolves. Nokigon felt pure and genuine fear, then- he was a soldier, and if there was a mortal enemy before him he could handle that.
But this was not a mortal enemy. This wasn't even alive. It was a summoning created by thousands of generations worth of sorcerery, of power stored throughout the years. It was a masterpiece of magic, and Nokigon was helpless before it. And the worst of it was, that Nokigon (who had a large knowledge of the arcane, being a warrior who could use magic slightly) knew full well that this construct was using effectively no power. Nokigon would die, and he would make no impression on his killer.
But strangely, the storm was not moving forward. It appeared to be waiting for something. And that thing suddenly came apparent, as a voice came resonating across the plains. A deep voice, covered with mystery and power. The voice of a King.
Of King Sigurd.
"State your identity."
Nokigon thought quickly. Clearly this was an advanced rune created by sorcerers in order to protect Centrum from intruders. There was only one thing to do.
"I AM NOKIGON CEDIRIS!" Nokigon roared up at the storm. "I am the Captain of the Palace Guard in Mortifera! I am the Bane of the Blood Reavers, the Slayer of Tlachcog! I defeated the leader of the Harpies at the Battle of the Golden Seas! I am the defender of Keppen, the Sword of the West! I have come here for a reason. King Sigurd himself demands my presence."
The storm, the fire, all of the threatening elements vanished. The only thing left was the voice, which announced:
"Welcome to Centrum, Nokigon."
Nokigon shook his head, and rode for the mighty citadel. The Doors opened, and Nokigon was inside Centrum.

I would type more, but my time is short and the next update will take a fairly large amount of time. King Sigurd shall be introduced.
Tell you what..... I'll try and include lots of people in my next extract. Who wants to appear?

Nokigon gently dismounted his horse, filled with awe now that he could see the senate close up.
It was a mighty building, created with pure white marble. There was gentle steps leading up to the building, which was supported by marble pillars. The building was in a simple style. A high roof, made out of light red clay, framed a beautiful glass window.. Sun from another window caught the sun's rays beautifully, bathing the building in a soft yellow light.
Gentle statues of previous kings adorned the wall, but in the centre, larger than the others, was one statue instantly recognisable. King Sigurd, his features captured for all eternity.
Nokigon shook his head to stop admiring the features, and continued onwards. After a few moments encounter with a few spearmen on guard, Nokigon was approaching the court of King Sigurd.
*
"Enter!" There was that voice again, the voice that had interrogated him on the fields before Centrum. Sigurd's voice. Nokigon fought a wave of dizziness as he realized he was about to meet his King.
Then he pushed upon the two oak doors, and surveyed the man in charge of his entire world.
The Golden Throne of Centrum is a marvelous thing. It cost a fortune in gold, and was ordaned with gems and jewelery fine enough to feed an entire region for a day. But Nokigon's eyes were drawn much more to the King.
King Sigurd was young, very young in fact. Nokigon would wager that he was about 18. But there was a deep wisdom in his eyes, wisdom that Nokigon usually connected to old men long past their prime.
He had jet black hair, with a simple golden crown sitting on top. His eyes were a light blue colour. His face was unblemished, but his hands were the hands of a warrior.
He was tall, almost as tall as Nokigon himself, as a matter of fact. He wore a simple black leather doublet, with black trousers. His tunic, however, was white. The material was simple, but of brilliant quality.
His boots were soft brown, made out out of leather. Again, simple but expensive.
His sword handle was made out of steel, lined with gold. There was a ruby set into the pommel, and the scabbard was made out of a light wood- mahogany, perhaps.
The man made brilliant first impressions. Nokigon would see about the impressions he made during a conversation.
"Greetings, Nokigon, Bane of the Blood Reavers!" King Sigurd called across the hall, his face moving into a warm smile. "Come, sit down here." King Sigurd gestured to a chair. "We have much to discuss."
Nokigon inclined his head, then strode over to sit in the chair.
"First of all, I'd like to thank to you for protecting my Kingdom from the Blood Reavers. Those.... those beasts are monstrous. You have done a great service to the Kingdom, and avenged the death of Lord Asmund." King Sigurd leaned forward, and there was genuine sympathy in his voice. "At great personal cost." King Sigurd's voice was gentle and soft. He then leant backwards again.
"Secondly, I would like to point out to you that I am NOT stupid, and I know to keep an eye on my barons. I have a dozen spies in all major cities around Illyria at all times, and I know full well of my cousin's ineptitude."  King Sigurd sighed. "He is my family, though, and I must honour him in some way. But he is not cut out for most worthy jobs. I really am at a loss with what to do with him." King Sigurd stared into space, but Nokigon was surprised. He knew exactly what to do with him.
"The Great Library." King Sigurd looked up, surprised.  Nokigon continued; "Make him the Keeper of the Great Library. Then he can do something he enjoys and is good at."
King sigurd considered the idea, then nodded in appreciation. "Not bad- not bad at all. But anyway, now I come onto the full reason why I asked you to come here."
Nokigon rose an eyebrow, and leant forward. "Go on."
King Sigurd smiled. "How would you like to become the captain of the Royal Guard of Centrum?"
Nokigon's jaw dropped. He stared at Kin Sigurd with pure shock. The Royal Guard were the people who protected Centrum. They were the elite. The Swordmasters. And he was being asked to captain them?
King Sigurd grinned. "What do you say?"
Nokigon finally regained control of his mouth, and blurted out: "YES!" King Sigurd's grin widened. "There is only one test that you must undergo." Nokigon looked at him with interest, having completely regained control of himself.
King Sigurd continued: "Tomorrow, at noon, you must participate in a series of duels. I will personally judge your perfomance."
Nokigon stood, and bowed deeply. "Your Majesty."
King Sigurd inclined his head. "Dismissed. A servant can bring you to your room." Nokigon turned and strode for the exit, his thoughts full of how lucky he and the rest of Illyria was to have such a mighty King. But then, as he turned the corner, he paused, as he saw the most beautiful woman in the world. He knew immediately who she must be.
The King's wife, Queen Susan, was a young woman with light blonde hair. Her eyes were the very image of kindness and beauty- a warm, gentle green. Her clothes were the very image of finery- flowing clothes, made from silk and other materials.
Nokigon's head swam. He found himself staring, and quickly shook his head. But as he passed her, her eyes met his and she gave a mysterious little smile. Then she continued onwards.
Nokigon sighed. He had a nasty feeling that then couple of months (if he got his job) would be uncomfortable.

Nokigon stared up at the crowd, in the middle of the arena. He knew this situation. He had been in it many times- at Mortifera, he was always the champion. Sometimes the fights were so easy they got a bit boring.....
Nokigon doubted that that would be the case today.
A fanfare blew, and his first contestant stepped up. He was dressed in a dark cloak, with almost all of his features obscured.
"This is Urgorr the Old." King Sigurd called. As Nokigon looked at him, he kept his eyes firmly on King Sigurd. Not on the beauty next to him.
"You have ten minutes in a round. Begin!"
Nokigon was quite surprised to hear this abrupt beginning, but his reactions were still lightning fast. He could feel something coming from Urgorr, and he moved lightning fast.
His shield blocked the two shuriken that shot through the air.
The crowd gasped, then started to cheer. But Nokigon felt pure surprise as the contestant flung of their cloak, and revealed himself.
But that was the point. Nokigon had just proved himself to be sexist. He was not a he at all.
Urgorr the old was an elven woman.
And then, Nokigon snapped out of his daze and blocked the lightning fast sword blow. He had seen her sword whip out of it's sheath; but many of the contestants hadn't. This was clearly the reason Urgorr had been chosen- she was fast, as fast as anyone Nokigon had ever faced.
So he would just have to think strategically.
Nokigon went for a smashing strike downwards, attempting to test Urgorr's strength. It was nearly his downfall. Urgorr simply dodged the blow, and very nearly slit Nokigon's back open. But Nokigon was fast too, and he'd been trained to fight with many weapons. His favourite was his sword, but what few people knew was that he was very good with his hands and feet. He lashed out with his foot, performing Ushiro Geri . A back kick, which knocked Urgorr onto the ground.
Urgorr's sword went flying. But before she could draw her dagger, Nokigon's own sword was at her throat.
"Yield?" Nokigon asked softly. Urgorr nodded, her eyes full of surprise. He held out a hand, and Urgorr took it. He pulled her up.
The Herald blew his fanfare, signifying Nokigon's victory.
Nokigon lifted an eyebrow, and felt a lot more than a bit of pleasure. He'd just defeated one of the greatest warriors in the kingdom. But then he sobered up. She was just the first. Who would be up next?

Nokigon flopped himself into a chair, sweat running in rivulets down his face. He had just finished a deadly bout against a mighty warrior, who went by the name Fateful_Ending. And he'd nearly created a Fateful Ending for Nokigon.
To cut a long story short, Fateful had attacked in a devastatingly powerful manor, and Nokigon had then made a foolish mistake by blocking the strike. Of course, Fateful had the advantage of momentum AND gravity, so Nokigon's sword was knocked out of his hand.
Had he been any other man, Nokigon would've been defeated there and then. But Nokigon's fighting ability in many fields saved him. Without even stopping to think, Nokigon whipped out his dagger and dived forwards, knocking Fateful off his feet. They had had a fight, but Fateful couldn't use his big broadsword there and soon Nokigon had his knife at Fateful's throat. It was still too close for comfort though, and Nokigon knew it.
The fanfare called, and Nokigon wearily went back out again.
The herad roared: "Next up to fight is.... AUREAUS!"
Nokigon stared at him in surprise. He KNEW Aureaus. In Keppen, the man was a regional hero. But he was dead.
The man had DIED in the siege of Bladenon. The knights had hunted him down and slain him in revenge for killing Kildayus!
Although... there had been a rumour. A rumour that he'd escaped, and had spoken with the Duchy of Keppen himself. That he'd met the Chosen One....
And that must've brought him here. Suddenly, Nokigon noticed that Aureaus had no arm. That must've been due to a fire, or something...
"Begin!" the herald cried, and Nokigon suddenly snapped out of his trance. He dived forward and slashed his sword at Aureaus' armless side.
Aureaus did something unexpected. He leapt to the side and stabbed at Nokigon, who leaned out of the way.
The fight commenced. Nokigon's sense of chivalry forced him to drop his shield, which he did early on, and to fight with one hand on his sword.
However, this worked to Aureaus' advantage. The man was clearly used to fighting with one arm, and forced Nokigon back.
Nokigon realised that he would have to go onto the defensive. He then started to retreat, slowly, and allowed Aureaus to wear himself out on him.
Finally, Aureaus started to tire. And the second this happened, Nokigon went onto the attack. He started a blindingly fast series of attacks. Aureaus barely managed to block them, until suddenly he pulled away, his sides heaving. Nokigon smiled coldly, and gently moved his sword towards Aureaus' neck.
Only to have Aureaus sword suddenly smash into the blade, with more force then a worn out man should have. Nokigon's blade went flying. Nokigon looked at it, and realised that Aureaus had only been pretending.
"Damn." He said, and dived for Aureaus.
The two of them wrestled for control of his sword. Nokigon knew that he could defeat the man if he used both hands. But he kept his left hand limp, and didn't use it no matter how much his senses shrieked for him to do otherwise. Finally, at last, he ripped the sword out of Aureaus' grasp and pointed it at him.
Aureaus' shoulders sagged. "I submit." He said, in a low, annoyed voice.
The Herald called: "And that's it for today! Thanks, folks, and to all of the contestants. Especially Nokigon!"
Nokigon looked up, again trying to avoid looking at Queen Susan. King Sigurd met his eyes. His face gave away no clues.
Then, slowly, he nodded.
Nokigon, it seemed, was in.

"Well done, Nokigon. I was pleased with your performance in the bouts, especially the one against Urgorr. But the crowning glory was the fight against Aureaus. Your chivalry gives me great pleasure in appointing you Captain of Section B, Royal Centrum Guard." King Sigurd seemed greatly pleased with Nokigon, for which he was grateful.
The two of them were sitting around a table, with Queen Susan sitting opposite Nokigon. As ever, this was extremely distracting- even more so than usual, since the Queen had an extremely plunging neck line. However, he could feel her own eyes upon him. This situation was getting messier by the second...
"Thank you, my lord." Nokigon forced himself out of his trance. "That means a lot to me."
"Ah, I haven't even started yet." Nokigon looked up in surprise. King Sigurd continued; "I'm afraid I haven't been completely honest with you. I wanted you at Centrum for something more than the Royal Guard. I would've told you earlier, but I can't risk this leaking out."
Nokigon leaned forward. "I'm listening."
"I want you to become the head of a Special Task Force, based here at Centrum."
Nokigon rolled the words around in his head, nodding appreciatively. "And what would that entail?"
"Well, quite simply you would be my eyes and ears. Spies in the land, but roaming all over the land. Investigating Factions, and sometimes Alliances. And maybe, if the time comes, to eliminate threats to the Kingdom."
Nokigon nodded slowly. "But you said that I would be head of the Task Force. Who are the others?"
"Well, I would like you to choose two solid, trustworthy lieutenants for you. Then you have a small rabble. I think we should have about 20 people, not including you, on permanent stand by. I'll choose 10; you choose ten. You'll need a wide variety of skills. Sound good?"
Nokigon considered the proposal. "That sounds great, thanks..."
King Sigurd smacked his hands together. "Great! Got any ideas for who your seconds will be?"
Nokigon started to think. Obviously, he would have Doom. The man was an excellent soldier. He would write to him and ask him to come over and...
Nokigon's face fell as he remembered. Doom was dead.
Quickly pushing away the grief, he considered anyone else. He realised quickly that no-one from Mortifera would do. He considered elsewhere. And then, suddenly, a face presented itself to his mind. Black hair. White streaks. A scar on his upper lip. An otherwise unblemished face. Deep, brown eyes. A light moustache.
"Yes." Nokigon said. "I can think of one person."
King Sigurd narrowed his eyes. "Who's that?"
"Belthazor."

Nokigon waved at the lone horse riding towards Centrum. It was briefly enveloped in a storm, but then the storm vanished and the rider continued onwards. After a while, the rider reached the courtyard, and Nokigon ran down to meet him.
Belthazor turned around and grinned broadly at Nokigon. "You alright?"
"Course I am, who do you take me for?" Nokigon said with massive mocking overtones. Belthazor rose an eyebrow, and left it at that.
"How are you then?" Nokigon continued. Then a glint of mischief entered his eyes. "And how was Elissa?"
Belthazor's eyes took on a far away look. "Darn brilliant. She's... "
"Ah, ah, ah, ah, I don't really need to have a precisely detailed account about your experiences..."
Belthazor grinned. "Anyway, what did you want me for?"
Nokigon became serious, and quickly filled Belth in. He nodded carefully. "So, what's our first... assignment?"
"That's what we're about to find out." Belth nodded and they went forth to the Senate.
*
King Sigurd looked up, and welcomed the two of them in. First off, he asked about the second lieutenant; Nokigon shook his head. King Sigurd shrugged, and began.
"You two are going to lead a small mission, to guard a funeral. The dead man was the leader of two great alliances, but one of them has grown under threat from another alliance. I am forbidden to intervene directly, but I can post guards. It's the least I can do for a man that was such a wise and kind leader. And if his funeral IS violated... I will do all I can to re-enact deadly revenge, but stay neutral. I'm used to getting around these sort of obstacles..."
Nokigon needed a bit more information though. "Who's the dead man?"
King Sigurd looked straight at Nokigon, and Nokigon could see sadness in his eyes. "I think your friend, Belthazor, knows him. The man is Shrapnel."
Belthazor gasped. His face went white. Nokigon looked at him with some concern. "I take it you do know him then?"
Belthazor didn't answer, as he buried his face in his hands.
King Sigurd explained: "Belthazor is one of the many people that was taught by Shrapnel. He was a great teacher. Many will miss him, and that's why we CAN'T let the Mal Motshans ruin his funeral!" Pure emotion flared in his voice, and for a moment Nokigon knew why King Sigurd was so greatly feared. The man had such rage inside him, but it was under complete control and controlled by pure intelligence and determination.
Belthazor re-took control of himself, and looked up. "We're going." And there was no argument in his voice. Nokigon nodded.
King Sigurd looked at them both, and nodded. "That you will. But really, I would appreciate it if you found a third man. After all, the old proverb says: One man may be deceit. Two may be conspiracy. Three is the number I trust."
"Well then... I'll find my third member soon." Nokigon said suitably convincingly. But as a soldier he didn't  believe in superstitions like that. He bowed deeply, and turned to leave. He strode out of the door.

Nokigon walked through the citadel, his thoughts full of one simple question.

Who the hell is going to be my third member?

Any of the contestants at Centrum would do very well. There was however a problem. Aureaus seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth, Fateful_Ending had returned to his castle at Lan larosh and Urgorr, although she was definitely in Centrum, seemed to have hidden her room with sorcery.

Finally, he turned a corner and saw a a light blue door, with a plague next to it. The plaque read:

Urgorr the Old

Miles Militaris of rex

Cor benignum

Nokigon knew a lot of Latin, and he saw with amusement that there was sorcerous blast marks on the last line of the plaque. He studied them with his mind, and knew they came from Urgorr. Grinning, he knocked gently.

Urgorr called from inside: "Come in!"

Nokigon opened the door. Urgorr stood up from a luxurious armchair, and smiled warmly at him.

"Nokigon" she said."How good to see you. Come, sit down." she point at another armchair. Nokigon gently lowered himself into it, not wanting to appear rude. But before he could start talking, Urgorr began to speak.

"I know why you're here, Nokigon. I can't come with you to Shrapnel's funeral."

Nokigon was slightly put a back by this. "Why's that? And how do you know?"

Urgorr smiled. "I was asked by the king to be your third member. He wondered whether you would ever make your mind up."

Nokigon shook his head. Clearly he was too slow for King Sigurd.

Urgorr continued: "And the reason why I can't come is behind that curtain. Go on, have a look."

Curious, Nokigon rose and walked slowly over to the curtains. Before he reached there though, he hesitated. Urgorr gestured for him to continue though, so he gently opened the curtains. And gasped.

Two young boys were lying down, asleep. Nokigon watched them for a minute, then slowly closed the curtain. He stepped back, and looked straight at Urgorr who had shining eyes.

"Wow." Nokigon said, shaking his head wonderously. "Wow."

Urgorr smiled. "Wow indeed. So do you see where I stand now?"

Nokigon nodded, and turned to leave. He closed the door gently behind him.

He walked away smiling, but this did still create some problems for him. He needed that third member.

He heard fanfares outside, and peered out of the window. A powerful knight was dismounting from a horse, and Nokigon felt a jolt of surprise as he recognised who it was.

Nokigon smiled. He knew who his third member would be. A mighty warrior from Keppen, one of the greatest the world had ever seen. A warrior whom even Nokigon feared.

"Aberdon." Nokigon murmured.

Nokigon stared at the wooden coffin with deep sadness, and in unison with his two comrades he drew his sword and saluted the coffin of Shrapnel. Belthazor was clearly holding back tears, and Aberdon, although he had never met the man, was clearly deeply sad to see a great legacy put to rest.
The surrounding peoples formed an alley way, for the coffin bearers to walk down to. Where King Sigurd, Lord Porthur and Lord Grendam stood around a deep hole in the ground.
Nokigon returned his attention back to the coffin. There was a man at each corner, and Nokigon recognised them all. They were the head members of FDU. Leungarific, Yonder, JCD64 and Deansieboy all held a corner of the coffin, whilst leading the small procession was Lianosk. Tears poured down all cheeks.
Nokigon looked around. He recognised many great names. Kumomoto and Llyorn of Jaensch, representatives from the greatest alliance in the world, all looking grief stricken. Shrapnel's influence stretched far.
MoreBlue4U2 and Shakyala, Iduna and Selissa, CranK and Azreil..... The list went on and on. Representatives from the four races and the many alliances, hundreds of people, all assembled to watch the greatest legacy in Illyria put to the final sleep. New enemies and old foes, animosities and deep set suspicions, all had been set aside to pay their respect to this one man. It was beautiful.
Finally, the coffin reached the hole, with the marble tomb waiting to be pushed over it. The Head Abbot of the order of Allembine, Father Straten, stepped forth with a tender expression on his face.
"We are gathered here today, to watch the burial of Shrapnel...."
The service continued, with Nokigon's eyes fixed upon the coffin. The words of the abbot continued, with Nokigon savouring every word.
The Abbot began to speak of Shrapnel's life, filling Nokigon in on the full course of events. And then, it was time.
"Ashes to ashes." The abbot said. "Dust to dust." The coffin was gently lowered into the hole, and the marble block was pushed over the hole. Shrapnel was sleeping now, never to be disturbed again.
It appeared as if the service was over. But that was wrong.
Five blinding rays of light cut through the rain and struck the ground. When the light cleared, the Circle of Five were revealed. They stepped forward in unison, bowing their heads sadly.
"Shrapnel," Faer Smyss said. "You have been a blessing to the land of Illyria."
"You shall be rewarded for this." Elissa added.
"Even in death." Finished Herrolf. He raised his hand, and Nokigon's senses detected powerful sorcery, above and beyond anything HE could create.
"No man may disturb you in your rest."
Elissa and Stendas raised their hands in unison. "Water and Air shall not affect you in your rest." Again, sorcery flowed forth.
Maldak raised his own hand. "Not even the greatest fires shall affect your resting place." Sorcery flowed forth.
Finally, Faer Smyss stepped forward. She surveyed the tomb.
"A thousand thousand years from now, you shall look exactly the same as you currently do. Time will have no effect on you. You shall not shrivel, but you will endure. You will appear that you are merely resting long after the Kingdom of Illyria is nought but dust and memories."
The greatest flow of sorcery roared forth, so powerful Nokigon staggered under it's power. When it was done, the Circle looked greatly tired- but triumphant. Nokigon knew that they had bestowed a great gift on Shrapnel. His body would not be effected by the four elements, or Time.
Stendas gestured, and the rain stopped. Elissa held out her hands, and a ray of light struck the coffin. They turned to face the crowd.
"May all people honour this man, and remember him for what he has done for you. He deserves everything he has been given, and more."
With those words, one by one, the Circle vanished. There was awestruck silence for a while, then as one, the crowd knelt. Even King Sigurd. For in truth, Shrapnel was greater than any of them. For he had taught hundreds of people, taught them key information. He was the wise one of Illyria.
No-one could truly compare to that.

Nokigon, Belthazor and Aberdon were walking along through the graveyard, allowing themselves to relax in each other's easy company, when Aberdon froze.

"What?" Nokigon hissed, some primordial instinct warning him to stay quiet. Aberdon didn't answer, just pointed. In the corner of the graveyard, almost beyond the range of human sight, stood a man who at first glance appeared to be just an ordinary human, paying his respects to Shrapnel. But if you looked closer you could see the bronze gleam of a sword at his side, and when he turned you could just see his trade mark scar over his right eye.

It was Nige.

Nokigon had split seconds to think, and he gave into to instinct. He call softly to Abe and Belth; "Attack Plan Macedonia."

They all nodded, knowing what he meant. They all did Praetorian training.

Nokigon crept along, attempting to escape detection for the moment. HE succeeded for a while, but eventually he was spotted.

Nige leapt forward, his sword flashing out. Nokigon was quicker though, and dived forward with a long dagger drawn.

The plan worked. Nige leapt aside to avoid the deadly weapon, which had green marks on the tip (it was one of Nokigon's military tactics. People would think the knife was dipped in poison, and would not wish fight it, therefore surrendering. They didn't know it was simple green paint, disguised with sorcery). In doing so, Nokigon was inside his guard, and slashed his knife with flickering, fast motions at Nige. Within the blink of an eye, Nige had three slash wound on his right wrist, and as Nige cried out in pain Nokigon stabbed at the man's face, aiming for his eye.Nige managed to turn, but the blade still managed to cut his cheek open partially.

Nige screamed, and Nokigon pressed his example fully. He opened the palm of his hand, pointing at Nige with his hand splayed. He roared a powerful incantation, a spell invented by Tenaril. A teleportation spell. He was going to send Nige to the depths of the Wastes.

But Nige was a powerful magician too, and he thrust his hand at Nokigon. In using such a powerful spell, he had left himself vulnerable, and Nige's spell was one of the most basic in the world. But effective. He pushed with his hand and Nokigon went flying. Then he quickly used a basic healing spell to heal the cut on his cheek.

But when he looked up, he saw Nokigon leaping to his feet, throwing the knife in a viscous overarm throw.

Nige barely leapt out of the way, then allowed himself half aa second to relax.

Quarter of a second too long.

Three shurikens (a surprisingly common knightly weapon, also known as a throwing star) flashed at Nige. The first whistled past the man's ear, the second hit his shoulder and the third cut into his calf.

Nige screamed out in pain, then shouted out a potent sorcerous word. Impressive, seeing as words of sorcery were, although very powerful, hard to remember and even harder to use.

"Karamicha!" Nige screamed. The throwing stars dissolved, and the wounds healed over. He then dived at Nokigon, his sword flashing in an attack fuelled by rage.

Nokigon gave more and more ground before Nige's smashing assaults. Several nearly knocked the weapon out of his hand.

It continued, until Nokigon was at the point where Aberdon had first seen Nige.

The planned location.

Nokigon suddenly pulled away from Nige, and they pointed their weapons at each other.

"Stalemate." Nige said.

"Not quite." Belthazor said, stepping out of the shadows pointing a crossbow at Nige. Aberdon did the same.

THIS was Attack Plan Macedonia- A fake ambush, a retreat then a true ambush.

Nige smiled grimly. "No, it's not Stalemate." And suddenly figures rose up around them. And Nokigon recognised several leading figures, enough to know who they were.

It was the Mal Motshans.

Belthazor and Aberdon threw down their crossbows and drew their swords.

Nige stepped forward, and ugly smile on his face.

"Drop your weapons." Nige said contemptuously.

Yeah. Like THAT was going to happen.

"We'll go down fighting." Nokigon said to his friends. They nodded grimly, and together they prepared for virtual suicide.

Nokigon, Aberdon and Belthazor formed up, back to back. Hopefully they'd be able to take out plenty of these damned Mal Motshans before their own lives come to an end. Nokigon drew a dagger, and threw it, straight at Nige.

The knife whistled through the air- and froze, as Nokigon felt it smash into a powerful barrier. Milliseconds later, a large voice shouted out; 'STOP!!!'.
Nokigon looked around wildly, and then saw the source of the voice. There was a band of people a little way off. With a shock he recognised many of them.
KillerPoodle, Kumomoto and HonoredMule from Harmless stood with fierce expressions on their face. Next to them were a group of dwarves, Belargyle, Kilotov and Smoking GNU.
And finally, leading the small party, were a group of people- primarily orcs, but others as well.
Metallicus, xcerberusx, Carl Zeis, Jargas, Tarquinius and last but definitely not least, Uuntaar.
All of them held an expression of great anger on their face. THis was slightly amplified by the fact that they all had drawn weapons in their hands.
"Leave us, people of Illyria,' Nige was the first to recover from his shock. "This business is not for you.'
Belargyle stood forth, his face alight with anger. "You made it our business when you began to defile the work of Shrapnel and ruin his funeral."
Another Mal Motshan replied. Nokigon recognised him- it was the ex-leader of the Knights who Say Ni, Ragmanon.
"We are the rightful rulers of Mal Motsha!" His eyes lit up with an ugly light. "The Unified Orc Scourge and the few members of Toothless have no business in our land! They must join..." Here Ragmanon paused, allowing for dramatic silence as he looks around haughtily, "... Or perish."
An angry explosion came from Metallicus, who although angry had more diplomatic ability than any Orc Nokigon had seen before.
"Who do you think you are, claiming a territory for yourself?" Metallicus' whole face was the very image of rage. "If the gods intended us to have our own regions then they would have given us fiery protectiveness over our land! Why is it then, that you are the only alliance in the whole of Illyria that feels the need to claim your territory?" Metallicus took a step forward. "I will tell you why. It's because no other alliance is foolish enough to do what you have done. Because you are the only people who have the stupidity necessary to do this act!" Metallicus spread his arms wide. "Look around you. This cemetry contains the great ones of Illyriad. The King's ancestors. King Selathorn himself. Lord Frethiton, he who slew the leader of the Daedalons when they flew down on the Middle Kingdom. And most recently, Shrapnel. The very fact that you DARE to fight in it's shadow shows your audacity and lack of honour. I pity you." As one, the party stepped forward. And the Mal Motshans stepped backwards. Metallicus continued. "But even now, we can show mercy. Leave this place, and never return. Relinquish your hold on Mal Motsha- and we shall forget any of this ever happened. Otherwise..." And it may have been simple coincidence that the orc's hand dropped casually to the hilt of his knife. But it's unlikely. Either way, his words seemed to make an impact upon the Mal Motshans.
And then they roared. Most of it was indecipherable but the gist was clear. They would fight.
Juno stepped forward. "You are fools, vultures of Illyria. We outnumber you. So leave us to our prey, or perish."
The faces around Nokigon showed only one thing: Determination. Nokigon knew that they would sell their lives dearly.
"Now, don't go starting the arty without me." Came a voice with a distinct accent. Nokigon felt a huge grin split his face. He knew the voice.
The_Dude wore a long trench coat and a wide brimmed hat. His eyes were dark brown, with a light of humour inside. The hilt of a rapier peeked through his coat. He nodded at all present.
"Howdy. Now, I came here to pay my respects to my old comrade Shrapnel- and what do I find, but a load of scraggly beggars facing off against a nice group of people." He turned straight to face Ragmanon. "You made a mistake a while ago when you attacked me. Phoenix meant you no harm. But you attacked me and killed many of my soldiers. You'll regret that today."
The_Dude drew his rapier, and whistled- a single, piercing note. About two dozen swordsmen came up behind him. He smiled. "Do I get to say the words?"
He did not. Uuntaar, tired of the waiting, roared out "ATTACK!"
Nokigon dived forward, his sword flashing in bewilderingly quick movements as the two groups clashed like two bears, fighting over mates.

Nokigon went straight for Nige, as Aberdon and Belthazor behind him attacked Nige's guard. Nokigon stabbed straight at Nige's heart, only to have Nige dodged and attack for himself.
The_Dude went straight for Ragmanon. His rapier was ot of it's sheath and moving in a bewilderingly fast attack. Ragmanon was holding against it though... for the moment.
The Harmless members had gone for Butler, Belargyle and his members tackled Juno whilst Uuntaar sent his spear moving in a deadly arc towards Ava64.
Nokigon emptied his mind of all distractions, of all emotions. He became a machine. Cut. Roll. Slash. Thrust. Block.Kick. Sorcery. But Nige was a brilliant swordsmen too, and the two of them fought to an impasse. Nokigon knew that the only way he could win would be to do something unexpected.
Nokigon quickly slashed overarm four times in quick succesion, his blade smashing against Nige's shield, then, quicker than the eye could see he withdrew and cut a deadly blow at Nige's ribs. Unfortunately for Nokigon, Nige was too quick. His blade blocked Nokigon's weapon, and flicked around at Nokigon's hilt . The sword went flying up in the air, and Nige caught it neatly.
But Nige had actually fallen for Nokigon's Plan B. As Nige's blade clanged against his own, Nokigon lightened his hold on the weapon and prepared for it to be flicked up in the air. As soon as he felt the upwards movement he relinquished his hold on the sword and splayed his hand out at Nige, shouting Anum Kiloth Toundon!
A black cloud engulfed Nige's head. It was a simple spell, one that could be dispelled easily- BEFORE it envelops the targets head. But Nige had been distracted, and Nokigon saw his opportunity.
He began to shout incantations. "Destridolous!" Nige's body froze, as the immobilization spell took effect. Then Nokigon gathered his energy. He knew that a simple death by sword would not be good enough for this leech.
"Garthanous destolous!" Nokigon cried. "Hadasathian multorous gan rédiasa ca, kul dar, akhman shulta ra!" He pointed at Nige, who was desperately fighting to overcome the incantions. "ASTREIS!"
The deadly magic worked. Nige's body was surrounded in a vortex- an entrance to the void. For one moment, as Nokigon's original spells were destroyed by the vortex Nige screamed. Then he was gone.
But the scream was not a simple cry of rage. It was revenge. A hail of poison went straight for Nokigon, a deadly incantaion which would kill anyone who came into contact with it. Nokigon flung up a powerful shield- but it was not quite enough. It stopped all but a tiny drip of poison, which dived forward and burnt itself over Nokigon's heart.
Nokigon screamed, and collapsed. His allies look, and quickly took stock of the situation. The Mal Motshans did also, and realised that this would be a good time to flee. They gathered around Ragmanon, who's cheek glistened with blood with The_Dude's rapier, and as one they roared a word. There was a flash of light, and they were gone.
Belthazor quickly knelt beside his friend, but with one touch knew that it was beyond anyone present's skill to heal.
"We need to get him to the healers at Centrum. Quickly!"
Nokigon moaned as his body was teleported through time and space.

Nokigon could barely see through the wave of pain and agony.

Each movement, each TWITCH brought another wave of pure pain. It was hell. Nokigon damned Nige to the deepest corner of hell, and remembered that that was where Nokigon had sent him. He tried to laugh. It hurt too much.

Briefly, Nokigon wondered what sort of hellish poison it was that could do this to him. It must have been one hell of a deadly creature that produced THAT. Nige must really hate him. Well, Nokigon reflected, the feeling was mutual.

Nokigon wondered whether he would survive. He doubted it, since Nokigon was a fair judge on poisons and this felt worse than any he had seen. Yet strangely, he felt only a calm acceptance at this. And pain. More and more pain....

Yet strangely, he could feel the pain beginning to lessen, as the shadows and darkness around him started to scatter. A burning white light penetrated the blackness around him as SOMETHING, ripped into his unconscious state. Fighting back flashes of more and more pain, Nokigon looked up to see what it was.

A man, probably about 20, walked through to Nokigon. He wore a crossbow belted at his side, and numerous knives. From the easy and familiar way that he stood with them Nokigon guessed that he could use them.

He had jet black hair, with light blue eyes. There was a healed burn mark on his cheek, which didn't deform his features- in fact, the burn was mild enough to add to his features rather than the opposite.

"Hello, Nokigon." The man said. "My name is Harry, caption of the group known as the Enemies of Malice. EOM for short."

Nokigon  gathered his strength and replied. "How do you know who I am?"

Harry smiled wanly. "The tales of your deeds have spread far and wide, Nokigon Cediris. There are few who don't know who you are. But you must not die here, from the poison."

Nokigon looked Harry in the eyes. "You got into my dreams because I was weak under the influence of the poison and my defences were down. Why?"

Harry looked down at his feet. "I have my reasons. But you must gather your strength, and tell Belthazor something. It will save your life."

Nokigon was not afraid of death. But he was by no means someone who wanted it, and would take any chance to escape it. "What do I need to tell him.

Harry smiled, and began. "You have been poisoned with Melder poison. Belthazor must come to the Hub of the Windseekers, where he will meet my group. We have an antidote to Melder poison. Do you understand?"

Nokigon nodded, and managed to gather enough strength to ask one more thing. "Why are you doing this?"

Harry looked down at the floor again. Then he replied: "I was rather hoping you might do something for me." Then, Harry was gone and Nokigon prepared himself for the ordeal ahead.
