Mostly done through alliance chat. Messages are generally to get people in alliance chat XD

Messages are for private stuff, messages for chatting

That "mail entire alliance" checkbox on messages does a good job there  =)

cheers for the responses

Let me tell you what pinged my curiosity: I have been in several alliances, and my gaming windows of opportunity usually mean I can't stay on A.chat; however, A.forum usage is often so low a week (or even a month or a season) can pass with no-one else in the tribe adding to any of the topics. kind of makes getting to know people tough for me, and learning about the game drops back to being either a solitary endeavour or trawling through these hallowed halls for related nuggets.

If there is a tribe out there that uses the A.forum effectively, please let me know, as it is the communication method of choice for me.

I (from Harmless) seem to be the only player that voted for forums one of only two players who voted for external forums.  However I know that our training alliance (Toothless), though very active in alliance chat, also uses our external forums a fair bit.  It comes down to having good forum software on decent hosting--otherwise no one wants to use them, no matter how appropriate.  Toothless' forums are also viewable by senior members of Harmless, which makes for more satisfying Q&A threads and strategy/tactics discussions.

External forums are one way of Inter alliance communication. Even in a game which (wrongly in my personal view) encourages alternative accounts, I think that the game would benefit from a facility where confederated alliances can share alliance forums. This could help to coordinate joint strategies or actions or even facilitates mergers. Granted this can be done by external forums or even skype but would be less work for ingame (unpaid) moderators and less chaotic.
