Now, I can't talk about what the very simple solution to this problem is because it's against the rules to talk about it. As such, I'm going to suggest the next best thing, even if it's not entirely a fix.
We need to be able to block people on the forums. In game, yeah ok I can understand that taking a bit since there's a bunch of stuff going on with the new UI. However here on the forums I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to include a way to block people you don't like. I've been on forums that use the same code or whatever as these and they had a block feature, so I'm sure it's not something too crazy hard to incorporate.
I also know that this has been mentioned before however the reason I'm making a new post about it is because I want to to happen asap. There have been a few members on the forums (I wont name them out of respect) that have either been posting in an offensive manner or have been flat out spamming and derailing threads. If we could block them, we simply wouldn't see the posts and at the very least, those who chose to block those people wouldn't have to worry about them.
I realize that every forum has it's trolls but because there's no way to really deal with them on these forums, I'm starting to lose interest in them entirely.

I feel the feature you speak of would be a great addition in game and on the forums. However, I feel the biggest reason why these things have not been added is because the devs like the turmoil caused by having every player not able to ignore anyone. Forcing players to read other players opinions leads to war and dislike of others.
However, there is already features in place for everyone to do that already. It is called never reading the forums and never reading the chat options for alliance and global.
In reality, the devs are not able to make everyone happy. There will always be a big enough group that most likely will dislike a new addition, while the other group loves it.
This game more or less is a war between personalities. Much like real life, the same personalities seem to be against others personalites that differ from theirs. It is a huge turnoff for people to be disrespected and have conversation with a person that thinks totally different than yours.
Everyone lives in their own world. Everything is perceived by the world they live in and see on a daily basis. Just the environement a person was brought up in can very well shape a person's personality and outlook in life. Over time a personality can change for the better or worse depending on who they hang out with, work with, live at, and how stressful their life is. So, do not expect every person to agree with everything you say, because they very well have not walked in your shoes and see the world you have seen from your eyes your whole life. It is impossible to have the whole world like you. Well over 50% of the people you will meet will dislike you no matter what you do. And yes sometimes people treat you based on how you treat them and vice versa, but in the end that also does not play a huge factor in it. Do not expect everyone to like the same things you do. Even I am guilty of not accepting this from time to time.

I fear your suggestion would lead to more conflict? as people will wonder why they got blocked by someone and then get mad.....
My suggestion is to ignore people you don't like
------------- Have a nice day :)

I can knock this on the head immediately.
Ingame (in global chat) we will introduce a block function shortly after the release of UIv2.
However, our generally excellent forum software is third party (and third party hosted to keep it separate from the ingame server); and doesn't have a post/thread-level "block" function available.
You can block people from Private Messaging you (press the FAQ button on the top panel for details on how to do this). To repeat, however, you cannot block posts or threads - excepting at the level of the cranial (ie if you see a post or thread by X player that you don't want to read, why not skip over it?)

I had a cranial block once. I think that explains a lot.

I don't mean blocking posts or threads, I mean blocking forum posters in general. So when they post, you simple don't see it. You see their name and you'll see they made a post but you wont actually see the post itself. Are you sure this isn't possible?
I also find the "if you don't like the post don't read it" to be a rather weak argument however. Couldn't you just not read posts that contain hate speech? Well sure but that doesn't change that you generally end up reading it anyway and it's offensive. Now if you remove the post that contains the potentially offensive material, you have no chance what so ever of someone getting offended. The same applies here. It's easier enough to say "don't read it" but 9 times out of 10 if it's there, you at least end up reading some of it.

To clarify, this also include "poster-level" blockage. This software (as it stands) only has provision for blocking personal messages.

If a post contained something against the Terms & Conditions of service, such as hate speech then we will remove it and take whatever further action we feel is necessary (or that we are legally obliged to take).
"Posters you don't wish to read" is different from "Posters who breach the Ts and Cs".

With respect, the software powering this forum seems pretty lackluster all around. SMF beats the pants off of whatever this is, and it's free.
