perhaps their hides(leather) is used to wrap around the siege blocks. Well, I suppose those are both good answers. But every time I look at that recipe, I see a cow flying over a castle wall and heading straight for King Arthur.

I was looking at this again, and I realized it could have been a nod to Settlers of Catan, as well as to Monty Python. After all, who amongst us hasn't squished sheep into brick or stone?

I figured it could also be the draft animals, such as mules and oxen(it says "livestock", not neccessarily cows) used to pull the equipment. ------------- Helping people out in hard times - even when you don't like them - sometimes brings good karma from the wheel of life.
