------------- The battlefield is a scene of constant chaos. The winner will be the one who controls that chaos, both his own and the enemies.

Factions are not yet active. They are introduced on the map only for players and alliances to help them choose better spots with the city moving spell. The developers are still really busy with these game changing updates as Factions and Trade V2. So at this moment you can't ''join up'' with a faction yet. You can only move near the faction that you think will benefit you in the future (for trades, military support etc.)

T? and T2 are never the wrong alliances if you just joined the game. Those are training alliances and they can also answer alot of your questions en help you ingame. As I understand what Fateful is saying, T? and T2 are ''controlling'' that faction yes. So when the factions are going active, they will benefit from this faction the most.

"T? and T2 are ''controlling'' that faction yes. So when the factions are

Still not sure about this and wish fateful would clarify what they mean. if we attack this NPC specifically, will he get notified or something??!!
Besides that, how can I find out the implications of the faction that is closest to me? ... i think it is pax orcana or something, not sure

The factions info from the options button in game under the Illyriad logo should help out out a bit with regards to factions: http://uk1.illyriad.co.uk/view_faction_list.asp - http://uk1.illyriad.co.uk/view_faction_list.asp

I'l clarify what i said as there seems to be some misunderstanding
T? and T2 are training alliances, and we wish to be able to help train people (specifically new players) in all aspects of the game, and to better do this myself, firinne and LOL (firinne and LOL being management) moved to a faction HUB, this would allow us more opportunities to learn about them, and therefore be better able to help players understand them.
By 'Under the protection of' I meant Hostile action against that HUB, would be recieved as hostile actions against us.
My understanding of it is that We (T?, and T2) are protecting Turyin, and that WOTP, are protecting the other Turyn HUB. I have no specific knowledge of thier intentions for that HUB.
@ Crank and Rugre
Yes we stand to gain alot by controling the HUB... but we will, no doubt, be just a few among the many that will trade there, my comment of 'controling' was merely a reference to us being in control of the surrounding territory and not in any way a declaration of exlusive ownership.
@Rugre specifically.
No, we wont be notified, but there are more than ways than one to tell if something has been attacked.
Also Trullalla, i've sent you a reply, to your PM here and in-game. The ingame reply was for the invitation, T? is the place more suited to new players, T2 is for slightly older players. Also could you clarify whether or not you've moved your city yet?
Hope that clears it up

It is clearer now, sorry for dragging this one but i definetly feel I caught an important conversation at half time, so I am still catching up
So factions are NPC. hubs are centers of trade. based on relation of faction with race, you can be better or worst off with each faction. If you are closer and have good relations, you'll be able to get benefits, ranging from good deals to military cooperation
don't like it, and will try to have as little to do with it as possible.
@ Fateful: very clear. just wish all these claims and protection were in some place accessible to users before they decide to have an hostile action toward a faction / hub

Thats the gist of it yes,
Theres more to it then that, and those changes haven't been, or wont be implemented for a while yet... You'll want to talk to somebody with more info then I, Crank may know more about the upcoming crafting then i do.
As to the trade goods and military Co-operation, my understanding is, well nil... which is why I'm at a HUB, so i can find out.

And Rugre--
Your standing with the Faction will be based upon a number of criteria, your race, your personal standing with the faction (result of any actions you have taken in the past with that faction) and your alliance standing with that faction (result of actions anyone in the alliance has taken with that faction in the past). If you are interested in Trade, I would definitely encourage you to drop a city near one of the hubs and get involved in it!

Thanks Gryphon
not really interested in trade. strongly against moving cities feature. like a typical dwarf, will rather dig in further into the mountain instead of having further interactionor socialization with others :-)
but will consider founding a village near a hub, if circumstance and local environment permit
the 2 big question that remains for me are: can a faction be wiped out? can a hub be razed to the ground? ... actulally 3 ... will a faction engage other factions in war of their own initiative? ... make it 4 ... if yes, will they dislike you further if you have good relations with other faction?

Hubs are invulnerable AFAIK. And yes - once the AI is up factions will attack people who sufficiently annoy them and yes your relationship with a faction is also determined by your relationship with their friends/enemies.

Also - I don't believe there is such a thing as "controlling" a faction hub. You can gain advantages by being close to a hub and by trading with them plus killing their enemies but you can't "control" a faction AI or their hubs.

sucks that you can't raze a hub to the ground. i think i'd enjoy that experience. besides, if they can attack me, why can't i obliterate them? ... sucks ... and draws further questions. where will their armies appear from? the hub? can we spy on them? what is the size / strength of factions? will they just be a nuisance or can / will they make me loose my will to keep playing?

the hubs wont be attackable but when the faction AI goes live they will start building cities that are conquerable so you will get your chance in the future. as for how strong they are/will be we dont know but we were warned not to build near the -50 factions or we will lose our citiy. but if you attack a faction that was originally neutral a 0 on the scale it will gradually drift back to 0 if you leave them alone but we dont know how fast or how much actions effect the factions yet so if you get their aggro up high enough you may lose a city before it drifts back to neutral or maybe not

Thanks Torn it is like the song "Everyday i love this faction feature less and less" :-s ... maybe it is just fear of the unknown, - potential enemies of unknown source of power - unknown size and might - that can obliterate your cities if they get pissed - that you don't control/can't change all elements that get them pissed - that you'll have to tip toe around
for a player with a smallish village ... it is all a bit ... daunting ... and not fun. already plenty of villages out there big enough to make you fear for your fate in this game, this AI faction threat does not appeal to me personally

for the most part you should be ok just saty away from the edges of the map thats were the factions with the highest aggro are and the factions close to you that you do attack shouldnt retaliate out of proportion but just to be safe wait till some of the larger players find out how strong they are, ill be attacking a few factions when the option comes out and ill post how it goes and im sure others will also

Rugre-- I would also be actively making friends, joining or aligning yourself with an alliance or alliances and, when faction standings come out, building up as positive standings as possible with the nearest faction. All these things will greatly aid in your survival. Diplomacy is critical to this game, and the "I am my own island" mentality is likely to get you killed...
Just some advice.

your advice is well taken and appreciated. thing i've decided to role play this a bit, and LOR style, dwarfs are supposed to like being left alone. besides, in other games like this, i've come to realize most alliances are crap, run by little kids, paper tigers. top alliance are the ones that really matter, and for those I'm too small to be incorporated, so I might as well see if i can grow, enjoy my role play What i am not going to do is hop-on hop-off between alliances until i get to the top, i find that behavior disgusting. I'd rather sink with the ship, all guns blazing If I get wiped, tough, better it happens in a game then real life. Because that's one of the things these games are nice, here you can risk to be bold, adventurous, visionary etc ... worst case scenario, you get to try again in another server I'm sure you can understand what I'm saying, it's not about being too cocky, it's about doing stuff in here, that would take insanity or a gigantic pair of balls to do in real life :-)
