calling all dwarfs Dwarven Lords is recruiting. Pure dwarven alliance.(meaning no other races just saying just incase you know) we help our members grow and protect them as good as we can. 2% taxrate only 3 requirements to join wich can be found on Dwarven Lords mainpage. Dwarves you mean? Dwarven would mean an object made by a Dwarf would it not? EDIT: Or at least ownership or something along those lines. Really, Dwarvens as peoples just doesn't sit right with me. |

Classic Tolkienesque heritage actually dictates that the plural of Dwarf should be Dwarfs, and the adjective form should be Dwarfen--or just Dwarf, I can't recall now. Dwarves and Dwarven do sound like much better English, however, and like most modern mythical anthropologists, I accept and even prefer this more common convention. |

I seem to remember a story about the editors who had Tolkien's 1st manuscript. They changed all of the 'Dwarfs' to Dwarves', and the 'Elfins' to 'Elvins'. Tolkien had said there were to many changes to go through and re-edit, but he always wished the original words had been kept. His writings were based on Middle Earth, as were their languages. ------------- I am a Machine. |

Greeting all. First, The Dlords (or Dwarven Lords) are actively recruiting and excited by all the new players. Please visit our Home page and shoot me an 'In Game Mail' (IGM) for admittance - if you are a dwarf :) As for the comments about the plural form of the word Dwarf. While yes there is discussion as to how to properly convey the word in a plural sense, historically Dwarfs, was most commonly used referring to a people group. However, the term 'Dwarven', which I choose to employ, encompasses a larger field than just a name meaning "very short human' or 'very tiny'. For me, the word was chosen to depict more than a people group of relegated to stature alone (as the term Dwarf implies) BUT TO ALSO capture their cultural uniqueness as a group. Thus I use the term 'Dwarven' to convey and portray, in a word, their civilization as a particular people group. |

The air is aflame into the bowels of mother earth, where the noble
dwarfs have their sacred homes craved in naked rock and stone. The air smells of fire, smoke and heated Iron that is turned into the most resistant steel you can hope to find in the whole of illyriad. In the depths the Dwarfs can be heard singing and curse as they work at the great forges , filling the air whit the sweet song of their hammers hitting on metal... On higher levels you can find the laboratories where the great dwarf engineers work on their clockworks, mechanical engines and sophisticated crafts that only sharp minds whit skilled hands can hope to manufacture.. Going trough the great rooms where the dwarfs live, a sweet scent of roasted meat and fresh, sprouting ale fills the air, music, laughs and chants of prize for the King can be heard and from everywhere dwarfs come and go, caught up in their daily activities. The great archives are filled whit uncountable tomes and books, holding the wisdom of entire ages in them. Old greybeards walk around, reading and writing, looking for dusty manuscripts to catalogue and translate. As you get close to the mighty doors of the realms, the magnitude of said impassable doors will cut your breath out and you will stare in awe at the magnificence of those defences. There, right before the doors, huge barracks craved in stone, host the mighty warriors of the realm, equipped whit axes so heavy that humans would not even dare to lift, sledge hammers that makes you want to run just by looking at , are ready for use. Serious and fierce, the warriors will smile kindly as a newcomer passes by, so they will know that there is nothing to fear for a dwarf in that Home of rock and stone, guarded by the best soldiers the world has to offer. As you emerge on the surface, you will be surprised as you see nothing like grey and duster mountains, but green alpine pastures, far above the level of the clouds, where the sun always shines. There our cattle happily feed on the soft and juicy mountain grasses and herbs and you will see the beauty of bountiful fields of corn and wheat, cared whit love and wisdom by the dwarven farmers. and you will know, that this is your home. If you're a dwarf and like a strong brotherhood of people who not only have your back in fight where you have been wronged, but that will do everything in their considerable power to help you grow and expand while proving your title of "Lord" is both earned and it's name, honored - then come and join the Dwarven Lords. Visit our Alliance Homepage for information on joining and if you do not yet meet those requirements, our training alliance (for all races) will aid you just as well, and can (if you choose) to eventually meet the requirements to become one of the Dlords. |
