*translated* AMORPHIAS HAS WON!
NEW RULE: Just for those thinking about not playing fair (which doesn't appear to be anyone currently in the tournament, thankfully! You guys are great. ^vvv^). During a tournament there will be no moving of involved cities at all. In addition, no player in the world will be allowed to move to or settle on the flag square, upon penalty of death. If this DOES happen, the tournament will continue as normal, but the target square will be moved one space to the left.
Okay, enough back and forth. If a tournaments going to happen, someone's going to run it. For the first one, at least, it's looking like that will be me.
The Tournament will be called....
!!Armok's Blood Bowl!!
Location: This tournament will be for players in the southwest quadrant. Those in other quadrants are welcome to participate, but it will be significantly harder for you to play.
Enrollment rules: Only one player from each alliance is allowed to participate. You can get support from other players in your alliance, but they cannot send military units. Then you have two options - you can either leave your alliance for the duration of the tourney, or your alliance can end any NAPs with other participating alliances - they can be renewed after the tourney ends.
Victory: The first player to hold the flag location for 48 consecutive hours, (with your times being committed at my check-in times at 8am and 8pm EST). OR, if the tourney ends up running over 35 days, the winning player will be the one who held the location for the longest. The flag location will be chosen randomly by the ever helpful random.org, with the limitations that it will fall somewhere in the southwest quadrant. Victory will be confirmed by the GM.
Sign-ups 8/8 slots filled First come, first served 1. some random guy 2. Lionz Heartz 3. G0DsDestroyer 4. duuvian 5. Ulrich Heintz 6. Smoking Gnu (Handicapped, two cities and inexperienced commanders) 7. Amorphias (Handicapped, one city (Pit 6) ) 8. -hypocritical-
I'd also two assistant admins for the tournament if you're interested in volunteering to help check in and keep an eye on things, and investigate malfeasiance. Admins. (3/3) 1. Noryasha Grunk 2. Zangi 3. CranK
Also, I'd like the commitment of any players willing to siege and conquer the cities of anyone who messes with the tourney. (0/??)
Rewards: second place will get 100k gold and 2k advanced resources, 3rd place 50k gold and 1k advanced resources. The rest goes to the winner winner!

*translated* Prizes are added to the pot, and Zangi, you're in as admin. Mostly, you'll be checking the spots as well as I (regular scouting trips), probably on different hours than me, so we can have a decent feel for who's holding what spot and how long they held it. There might be other organizational responsibilities, maybe sending messages and tracking down rule breakers, but mostly its the scouting thing.

Sounds exciting, and glad to see players organising something!
We're happy to confirm "army sent and occupied for 48hrs" when a candidate for winning comes forward, and don't worry, we don't need sitting rights .
To help sweeten the prize pot we will provide unique military units (good until killed) to the winner as follows:
- 100 Brood Mothers (Serpentkin)
- 100 Elder Weavers (Arakvar)
- 100 Errant Knights (Mercenaries)
If the winner does not wish to pay the upkeep for these additional units (yes, they do require pay!) then we will provide (in lieu of the units) the equivalent of one months' worth of upkeep for the same 300 units, which comes to 864,000 Gold.
Best,

Nice SC. With your added reward its ALOT more interesting for people to join this tournament :D
I really hope its going to be a succes :)
Ill also put in some resources for the winner:
100 siege blocks 1k books 1k beer (for the after party)
Grunk, I'd also love to help you with this tournament. As this is a player runned tournament, there will ofcourse be some small ''bugs'' and I'd like to learn about how this tournament will work and maybe could work better. So we can set up even bigger and more organized tournaments in the future ;-)

How about asking participator to resign from alliance for the tournaments time instead of tearing down hole alliance touching Non-aggression pacts/confederations. Or perhaps there would be some special changes for Tournaments from GMs?

| They can be reinstated later. If you think your current NAPs/Confeds are going to turn on you with this off... you got a problem.
Also. If someone makes a point of making trouble to effected alliances... hmm... there could be help provided by non-participants in one form or another.
But eh, GMs are considering making special exceptions to this IF this sort of tournament stuff is a hit I believe.

Yes, this tournament is a player runned thing afterall. GM's are far to busy with devloping other things as T2 and factions atm. But if this tournament is a succes and gets good feedback I guess GM's will concider making a tournament themselfs that won't need human eyes to watch for cheaters etc. (if GM's not allraidy concider making a tournament mod)
Thats why we need players to play this tournament and get out the most fun. At first I thought this tournament will just be a wast of troops. But as you see now, the pot is still rising and its totally worth it to join this tournament ;-) Also the winner will be the first player in Illyriad to control a small army of monsters.

Question: what sort of restrictions pretaining to Armies are there, if any? One army from one city? All the armed forces you can possibly muster up?
|
Posted By: Zangi
Date Posted: 03 Nov 2010 at 13:37
From what I figure, all the cities, but that disparity may be too much for some of the smaller players signing up if one of your girth sits about 3-4 cities worth of troops in one spot.
I'll let Grunk confirm that.
|
Posted By: Smoking GNU
Date Posted: 03 Nov 2010 at 13:42
I only asked since i have a feeling if all troops from all cities are allowed then much larger ppl would be able to pile in Vast armies and the rest of us will beat on it's entrenched positions to no avail.
Maybe troops from 2 cities at most. That way someone can send in some serious manpower and still be able to protect his cities with the garrions from his remaining cities (thinking in terms of someone who would drop himself from his alliance in order to take part in this tournament.
Also, will there be some sort of custom unique banner we'd be able to put on our profiles to prove that we Participated/WON the tournament, as symbols of honour and so on and so forth?

Yes indeed, we are busy with other things - but we are also watching this with very keen interest, and if it works and people like the idea then we may put together something more formal. What we're thinking of doing is building a brief framework in which players (rather than us) can organise these tournaments.
One thing I've discussed with the dev team - and is a fairly easy implementation for this tournament (with the code reusable for other similar types of tournament) - is a "Tournament Summary" on the Herald, which will give data on who is occupying the square and how long they've been there.
When the tournament player list fills up a bit further, we'll slot the coding in and make this visible to all.
Best,
SC

Well the reason no one wants to is that they will lose their army and be vulnerable to attacks from others (some people no doubt feel this way as their alliance may not care for them, but will kill them if they leave or something else is going on). And they don't want join and then a large player like Smoking GNU comes in and sends a massive army that can't be bested, except by another superpower player.
Just a few reasons that i think are holding people back.
so as long as we keep the fight where there is a somewhat even playing field, more people will join.
I can participate in the tournament as well, as long as that is not against rules to add things to the pot and join the tournament, and as long as no one else from my Alliance wants to join the tournament, if they do they will replace me. If that happens i will post it here.
I am only using Smoking GNU as a refernce nothing more, no offense intended GNU.

Losing their army will gain valueble commander exp and the pot is big enough to try and win this tournament. Being vulnerable to attacks from others is out of the question because this will be breaking the rules -> messing with the tournament. And Dlords have offered their help to attack players who mess with the tournament + your old alliance will also most likely help you when some1 attacks you.

I agree, I feel their needs to be more rules for this tournament. It seems like the bigger pop players would win this. That is why I recommended lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight divisions. I feel this should be a requirement to make things fair for the players involved. There also needs to be some more rules in terms of how many troops a player can use etc... I feel if there is more clarity in this regard, more players would join.
Since there is such a huge area being covered for this tournament, I think a player would have to hold a square for 96 hours. It may take some players 4 days or more just to get there...
Perhaps even adding 2 more squares to claim would make things more interesting. So randomly pick 3 squares on the map for 8 players to claim. Just something to think about.

Lionz, making division won't solve anything, as it will still be the biggest from their division who would win. If instead we made a troop and commander limit, then we would be battling on skill alone.

There will always be that excuse, however I feel divisions would help solve the problem. And it would be pretty hard to have players have the right commander levels for the tournament. I guess I will have agree to disagree with your statement.
400 pop - 2000 pop bracket
2001 pop - 10000 pop bracket
10001 pop - 30000 pop bracket
30001 pop and higher bracket
Maybe we just have too many care bears in this game, that may be the problem.

This is a game where players have the chance to lose stuff. Every player better get used this reality instead of pretending he or she is playing care bear island. I can guarantee anyone, that there will be some upsets in this tournament. In some cases, there are players with high pops who have a big military. And there are cases of lower pop players having big armies. Some players focus on point totals rather than upkeep on military. So it is very possible for a player with only 2001 pop, to have a bigger army compared to a player that has only 5000 or 7000 pop.

Anyone who thinks they don't have a chance doesn't understand how this is going to work. Playing smart, it would be trivial to beat an army 5, even 10 times your size, because there will be so many other players who are trying to do the same thing.
The big players will probably destroy each others armies fairly quickly - it may not start as a level playing field, but it will quickly become one. Sure, they'll have an advantage - but you'll get valuable experience and get to have some fun, and you've actually got a reasonable chance at winning - In many ways, it is more a contest of persistance, cooperation (among attacks from those players weaker than someone currently holding the hill), cleverness, and vigiliance than it is of pure military might (though pure military might will certainly help).
Most importantly, you'll be providing us with valuable information regarding future tournaments, and there WILL be more tournaments. I will run one in each quadrant, each with a slightly different set up.

lvl 15 barracks, T2?
I'm getting plenty of help, i've only been playin for the last maybe two, maybe one and a half months.
yes, it might be worth a try
I'm not worried about replacing my army, i have more than enough eqiupment to replace my whole army. But theres still the futility of going at loggerheads with huge players who generate by far more upkeep then I.
I agree with the different leagues. If they were implemented i would be more then glad to join in.
But i think the reqards should be less for the different leagues. At the 400- 2000 rewards should be much less then the 30000+ rewards, simply because less resources will be spent in the lower lvl tourney, then in the higher lvl one.

Nicely said ! Thats the idea behind it.. Yes ofrouce bigger players have the advantage. But most of you also know the story about david and goliath right? If your not big and strong -> be smart. You can always make your position in this tournament better. It just needs a bit more timming, watching other players armies depart from their towns etc. (yes if you really want to play it to win you have to be active searching for holes to dodge the larger armies and place yourself on top)

I agree, KP could handicap himself on this tourney. Maybe add a low lvl commander instead of the high lvls wich makes it all about the army itself. And having big experienced players in this tournament will only be of big help in the future tournaments as they can easy see where things are going wrong etc.

I ABSOLUTELY love it!!!
I'm donating 120k each of Stone, Iron, Clay, and Wood to the winner (or however the organizers want to break it down into winner, 2nd, and 3rd places).
I do think you should have good prizes for 2nd and third places, as these folks fought hard and should be compensated...
We'll have to organize our own H? cheerleading squad... Llyorn? Where are you? ;)
Needless to say, as everyone's seen above with all the other alliances, we also will support whatever punishment the organizers feel is appropriate towards spoilers of this event...
(or we might get a tiny bit more medieval on their rear ends...)

I hereby confirm my participation in this here Tournament as reprisentative of The DwarvernLordsAlliance.
I would also like to confirm that i also will be limiting my armed forces taking part in this excersize to 2 cities only, both of which have somewhat inexperienced commanders in charge. (this'll be a good way for them to level up concidrably.

OK - I will use one city (Pit 6) from my 2nd account (Amorphias) which currently has all level 0 commanders, although I reserve the right to kill some NPCs between now and tournament start to level them up a little.

OK, one more.
Since this looks like a done deal, how long after the next and last entrant does the Tournament officially start? maybe a fixed Server Time start point from which to go (like in a race, but with more pointy stuff)?
This is just a suggestion, but maybe the kickoff should be around 12-20 hours after the last entrant, so as to enable all the entrants to be aware of the start of the tournament.

I say at least 48 hours after the last person enters the tournament. 12 to 20 hours is too short notice. We need to make sure all of the players will be able to start at a certain time.

could I remind everyone that this does not concern anyone outside the tourney and alliance members shouldn't be attacked as a distraction? Recently, two of my members had armies sent at their cities, and this may be related to the tourney. Thanks, as always.

Knew i should have made a bet on it!
Ha well now the games have begun...or will begin. Either shoot me a PM or post something in the forums to tell me when it starts. and also how are we being notified of the location? PM? Well either way..Good luck to all.
Oh and if anyone wants to bet on this tournament i am totally ok with that, just don't bet on me. (you'll probably lose your money)
And Some Random Guy hope for at least some kind of action.

Okay, everyone! We're full up and ready to go!
The game will likely start on MONDAY at 9am est, 13:00 server time. I'll let you guys know if it gets delayed by PM and messages here. I'd recommend using that time and a bit of sov to start building your troop numbers, if you haven't already. Also, scouts - scouts are going to be terrible important this game, so don't forget about them!

Scouts! Hmm...Those take saddles... Guess maybe i should make me some.
See You on the Battlefield my fellow contestants, may the best of us win(or the wors of us).
Oh yes what happens if the square is really close to one person and they hold it for 48 hours right away uncontested?, if that happens i think it wouldn't count. so if you can make sure that random.com or whatever it is doesn't put it next to someone's city?

This is going to be made more interesting by the fact that I have a business trip that just came up today which will run for most of next week....
Also I may switch to Pit 4 (fewer troops, still zero XP commanders but better placed in the SW quadrant) - I'll confirm once we know the location of the flag. Pit 6 is at 15|33 so may be too far away to be feasible.
Having said that Pit 6 hasn't been teleported yet - but I guess that's probably outside the rules for this tourney :)

Indeed if the town was a large one with a sufficient army then yes they would have an advantage. If only i hadn't moved my capital yet... But of course i assume that doing something like this would qualify as cheating and render that player...sought after by many o peoples is what i will call it.

Hm...I have a city that hasn't been relocated...
And forget teleporting near the target...just plunk down right on it. I think I could win this rather easily, considering the time it would take to siege an in-the-way low-population city and having a handy 30k infantry to occupy and then attack/sally any sieges...
Good thing I'm not entering the contest.

How would Harmless? control cheating in the tourney by one of thier own members who is huge . Guess they would have to try and take care of HM, although sieging someone with over 100k pop seems impossible and would incur many injuries . So i'm glad that not all people in power are power hungry . And HM you could join using maybe one city handicapped even then otherwise .
Peace, to all those but my fellow contestants my you have much confusion .

If I were entering, I would of course set some reasonable limit on my commitment. However, time is my primary constraint at this juncture. I'm starting a new/old job and struggling to deal with a mountain of late-term school projects, so I'd rather not get involved in anything timing-sensitive at the moment.
