In Ye Olde Tymes before seasonal tourneys, as I recall, beer cost 90 gold and spears 75. Chain cost 450 and swords 250 The two Kobold to an Axeman cost ratio was 240% Now the midpoint of Centrum buy and sell offers has swords at 590, chain incredibly and inexplicably lower, despite 30% slower production and wider demand, at 530, spears at 275 and beer at 410 The two Kobold-Axeman ratio is at this moment 12%!

More current prices: Two kobolds cost 2.4x more than a sentinel, a sentinel attacking a kobold on plains has almost a 10x upfront cost advantage, with upkeep adding to the difference Four kobolds cost 1.5x less than a marshal and retain a 13% advantage on cost defending against them on plains. Knights very likely have a cost advantage attacking them on plains at current prices, plus the large retraining rate advantage Two sentinels cost 3.6x less than a marshal with a 50% advantage defending against them on plains. Kobolds retrain defence against cav on plains 50% faster, but it's not crazy to build sentinels for defence on plains against cav right now Basically kobolds and sentinels used to be absolute cost stars, while with prices at the moment kobolds have no cost advantage. Sentinels lose some of their beastly cost advantage but keep it strong due to being a two upkeep unit that costs a beer and bow

Notable: it looks like the beer price may drop by 25% or more soon A knight is less than 1% more expensive than four kobolds atm, with a 1.87 upkeep ratio on plains giving it a nearly 2x cost advantage, I'll take things no one had on their Illy bingo card for 400 Alex A stalwart costs 2.8x more than 1.5 sentinels, with a 1.86 ratio giving the sentinel a 50% cost advantage in small forest The stal costs 1.18x more than three kobolds, with a 25% cost advantage attacking in a small forest A stal to 1.5 axemen is just 3% cheaper, near parity due to the relatively low price chainmail while axemen traditionally cost a small but decent chunk more

I do not think you took into account terrain modifiers. It takes 7 kobolds to defeat 1 Marshal on plains. I haven't dived into the numbers but if you forgot the terrain modifiers then the cost ratio is way off. ------------- Would you like a cookie with that? |

| Imo without also getting into the numbers you say I have the impretion that the devs intensioly place a same material at all the best units of its race as a stabilizer of the use of that units. |

| I adjusted for terrain advantage. I was rushed so I did the first calc path I could think of, dividing the cost advantage by the ratio on plains (1 marshal to 6.7 kobolds = 4 to 6.7 upkeep) so I can check it with a better method, maybe Sunday |

Edit: hmm this might multiply the marshal cost x 4 or at least just be quite wrong, I'm too upkeep ratio brained, it should be the unit 1 to 6.7 ratio, what a blatant mistake

Fixing these ones. Sentinel vs kobold should be right Marshal vs kobolds Four kobolds cost 2540g, marshal 3735g. Marsh kills 6.8 on plains for 3735 to 17,272 upfront cost difference at a 4.6 cost ratio  Upkeep is in the marshal's advantage, increasing the absolute difference over time. Holy motherMarshal vs sentinels Two sents cost 1080, marshal 3735. Marsh kills 4.8 on plains for 3735 to 2592. 1.44 upfront cost ratio for the sentinels. The 4.8 sents to match one marshal have 9.6 upkeep vs the kobold's 6.8. The kobold's relatively better upkeep vs the sents for defending on plains takes 218 days to come even at this price While the marshal costs 40% more than 4.8 sentinels the upkeep difference brings them even in 9 days

Stalwart vs sentinels and kobolds in forest Three kobolds cost 1905, stalwart costs 2188. Stal kills 4.4 kobolds in small forest for 2188 to 2794, 1.28 upfront cost ratio for the stal, with upkeep extending the total over time 1.5 sentinels cost 810 to stal's 2188. Oof? Stal kills 2.8 sents in small forest for 2188 to 1512. The sents once again have a 1.45 upfront cost advantage, while the upkeep difference comes even in 11 days, essentially the same deal as the marshal vs sentinel on plains

Ooof, messed it up again, multiplied the four kobold cost by 6.8 rather than the one kobold cost. Hard times going on, can somebody check the numbers in the last two posts Proper marshal vs kobold on plains, 3735g for the marshal, 4318g for the 6.8 kobolds
