We recently ran this poll in https://discord.gg/VHu6QKMm" rel="nofollow - Illyriad's Discord Server , and some of the players there thought it would be a good idea to get more votes from players who do not use Discord.

The poll is purposely designed to restrict participants to 1 response and to not offer an "Other" category so that we can really focus on which of these game styles in Illyriad are the most popular and supported.

Try to pick the category that most closely matches your favorite style of gameplay. Here is some more context for the categories:
  • PvP -- This includes all types of "player versus player" conflicts, excluding tournaments. So: siege warfare, diplomacy, server wars, land claims, conquest / empire building, etc.
  • PvE / Factions -- This includes any "player versus environment" conflicts and interests, including hunting, lore, Faction AI, etc.
  • Tournaments & Events -- Planned and regulated conflicts in-game that are understood to not be a provocation to war.
  • City Building -- When building your next city is an end unto itself. For players whose aim it is to keep building those beautiful legendary cities.
  • Crafting & Trade -- The making and amassing of crafted goods and trading them. This also counts for those of you who buy and sell as your primary mode of gameplay.
One last thought: choose based on your favorite style of gameplay, even if it's not the one that you currently engage with the most. It might be that you wish there were more PvP, PvE, etc. opportunities and content in the game, but not enough right now to your liking. Vote aspirationally!

I clicked the wrong option, is there a way to change it? I was trying to choose between PVP and Tourneys and managed to click the option sitting between them.

Too bad this poll will unify most pvp players behind a singe answer, while players that dislike pvp will be divided amonst all the other options

I think Duran should be working on providing more troops and prizes as awards for the tournaments.  I wish they were only 2 per year.  I suggest the devs provide 100 clockworks or elemental troops for 1st place as well as other prizes such as elemental salts.   All of this has been done before.   SC said it would relatively easy to implement things like this which had already been done.   Thanks!  Eagle

I completely agree with Shax.
Why people think it is ok to just come steal towns many have paid good money for is beyond me.

They don't steal them, they fight for them.

Of course they do.
An entire alliance wait for you to expend your forces in a tournament then they all pounce on you like hounds.
That's fair and honourable.
If you call that fighting your deluded.

In sports there is something called "fair play".

Would be "smart" to not do "fair play" - but players still do it?!

I Think "fair play" is following game rules, not abusing exploits like SMA (and your opponents) did in war. No multi-accounting.

I think it is perfectly fair to want to war the number one rank player or alliance, ASCN or SMA or Thirion, and use whatever clever tactics to do so.

Shax, I am perfectly willing to acknowledge that players who vote for "Tournaments" and those who vote for "PvE / Factions" can mostly be considered as one bloc of players who are not fond of PvP / siege warfare.

In general, there has been a bit too much made of these polls, and far too much irrational consternation from a few players over what, if any, consequences will come of their results. This is not a deep-diving, multi-question questionnaire; it is a short, fun poll to get some players engaged in voting for and talking about why they voted the way they did. Maybe someday in the future we'll use SurveyMonkey or a similar platform to do a penetrative survey to gauge a wide range of insights from the players.

But this is not that day.

The results are to some degree informative to the DEVS in our design projects, but do you think we're going to cancel Faction AI if PvP "wins" the poll? Or that we'd shut down siege warfare if the Tournament players "won?" It's nothing like that; it's just a simple poll. In digital and social media, polls are often used merely as a way to engage users. I thought this was self-evident, but will make sure in the future to include plenty of fine print to allay any loathsome fears. Huge apologies to the server for any confusion here!

Well there wasn't an option that matches why I'm here. My interest in Illy is that there is a massive amount of data available and that gives me the chance to play about at making little addon tools to supplement the UI. It also gives me source material for my other hobby of bookbinding (currently working on an atlas of Illy).

Following the rules is checked by the referee. Fair play is something else:"The principles of fair play include integrity, fairness, and respect for opponents, fellow players, referees and fans. With these principles, the spirit of competition thrives, fuelled by honest rivalry, courteous relations and a graceful acceptance of results."

In my opinion that includes not attacking players/alliances that do not want to fight, not attack players when they are down, and so on.
And yes, of course you can do that. But in my opinion then you get an unhealthy environment that just dies in the long run.

I notice that "chatting" and "sending stuff to newbs" are also not available options.
