How about a more dignified rebuttal?
Disclaimer: I know nothing about the example that is 'making' you quit. Heck, I may even have been open to lending military might to your side in this (if i could, its too far away)...im speaking of generalities.
I hope you dont leave Thirion...we need all of the players we can but especially the ones like you. I know we've had long discussions/arguments, but youve also seen me defend you (like when people gave you crap about "manipulating" the markets) so I hope you take this to heart.
You say you love PvP but "On my side that means a casual or a player taking a break gets attacked - who cannot defend himself.". Im not going to comment on the example you cited, but in general this is a very limited definition of PvP. If people never attacked a "casual" player, then noone would ever be attacked. Anyone can claim they are "casual" if they know they are going to lose. The fact is that it takes so long to build anything of note in illy that the cost of losing is too high. Anyone can squeal they are casual, and at that point are the attackers supposed to just scrap all the work they put into attacking the other players? A good example right now would be dorcish...is he immune from any military attacks? He 'cannot defend himself'...so he can do whatever he wants without in game repercussions? The other thing was players "taking a break". Again, can be a good thing, but people can also abuse that defense. This is what keeps multis and permasats around. You can have a known permasat but attack them and "they are just taking a break".
I know there are other issues, but in our conversations you would also say that something I did effected others. Yes, I know that, this is a sandbox game. Everything everyone does effects others. You have an outsized effect on others...when you decide to start or stop selling pres, or to buy or sell items, you are having a huge effect on others. What happens to the newbie who has been saving up for months to get some prestige, saving the millions of gold, and just when he has enough, you decide to stop selling it? Its devastating to the player, they may even quit. OH MY YOU MADE SOMEONE QUIT!!! We're giants in the playground, Thirion, even with the best of intentions, you are going to squash some ants. Its perfectly reasonable for you to stop or start selling or buying stuff, you have put through the effort to be the top economic force in the game. The game is set up so you are able to use the power you have gained...just like the game is set up for military players to use it. Again, im not commenting on this particular example, but others have put in the effort to be a military force.
In any case, Illyriad is so horribly skewed to the defensive players that PvP has atrophied to the point of near death in Illy. You can certainly defeat that siege Thirion...military is just as much a part of the game as economic. Rumor was you were just the other month trying to use your economic might to set up a military action versus me and my clan...and thats perfectly within your rights. It seems you want to be able to dictate when and when not PvP is 'legitimate'. I dont see EVERYTHING that happens in Illy (certainly not down in the BL), but in the five years ive been here, other than the RE war I havent seen a protracted war in Illy...and the game and community have suffered because of that.
