Many thanks for your hard work producing this very useful tool, but the rare res stats is incorrect now.

As you are no doubt aware now, the devs have seeded previously unobtainable herbs and there are new mines, some in areas where there were few or no mines, now have a fair number, particularly desert areas.

Yup, I'm aware the data is now out of date and plan to do another scan of the world sometime over the next week or so. That will produce more accurate data for the minerals however the herbs will always be outdated due to them moving when overharvested.

Thanks tens Thumbs Up

Yes herbs can move, but the numbers in an area should (I think) remain constant. Some areas will have new rare herbs therefore more patches. Would it be possible to show how many more rare herbs are in an area ? Some before/after type thing. That way we could get an idea as to where newly seeded herbs are likely to be.

The night diamond is new though, and it seems mostly in desert areas. I know of at least 30 diamond mines.

Upcoming New Page - Help Needed

Below is a screenshot of the upcoming Rare Minerals page. This demo uses completely random fake data and is only to show what info will be in the final page. To make this page I need scout reports from every rare mineral location in Illy (over 3300 of them that I know of). If you want to help making this and have any scout reports of rare mineral sites please forward them to me. I won't be making the final page available until I've got reports on all the known rare mineral sites.

New (Temporary) Page - Rare Mineral Scouting

I've added a new page to IllyStuff that shows how the identification (scouting) of the rare mines in Illy is progressing. This page is only temporary and will be removed when the scouting is complete.

I've still got quite a few spreadsheets etc that I need to get added - a lot more complex than adding from scout reports, and I'll be working on this later today.

Many thanks to all those that have contributed data/reports and are still doing so - it is very much appreciated and if anyone wants to help just scout mines and forward the reports to Tensmoor.

New Page: Custom Map

Added a page that lets you select various options to display a customised map of Illy. Currently you can choose to add from:
  • Region Outlines and Names
  • Biomes - options to show each of the 28 different biomes in Illy (yes there really are that many)
  • Combat Terrains - options available to show each of the different combat terrains.
You can scroll around the map, zoom in and out and there are also buttons at the top to let you zoom in to any of the regions.

At present it takes a few moments to first load all the different layers (looking into options for that) and I'm also trying to get a system in place to show the Illy coords as you move around the map.

Any feedback (especially suggestions on colours for the combat terrains) are welcome.

New Page: Illyriad Units

https://illystuff.uk/Illyriadunits.html" rel="nofollow - Illyriad Units

The Illyriad Units page gives you access to all the data I have available for every unit in Illy in a searchable table.

While the table is very large (several hundred different units) the ability to search for any text within it makes it (in my opinion) quite useable.

To search just type what you want to find in the search box at the top right and press enter. Any row that conains the text you typed will be highlighted with a yellow background and you can scroll through those with the Prev/Next buttons. To remove all highlighting clear the input box and press enter.

Thanks to all those who helped in the testing of this page and pointed out my errors with the chat codes :)

Any ideas/suggestions/criticisms please let me know.

Page Update - Custom Map

  • Added Land Claims to the available layers.
  • Speeded up loading of a large number of the image files.
It should be possible with this system to check if a given tile is in fact covered by a land claim - just scrool till the map is centered near the coords and zoom in until you can get the cursor on the required point. If you're over a coloured area then it is part of that land claim.

It any alliance has a land claim not included please let me know the details and I'll get it added. Similarly should any of the claims currently shown not be correct please let me know.

My hosting provider will be doing some essential server upgrades on 2019-06-27 between 05:00 and 09:00 UTC.

Quote from them on possible impact:
There will be several minutes of packet loss while we shift traffic between redundant devices. There may be additional event processing delays, as well as Cloud Panel and API interruptions during this period. We will endeavor to keep this to a minimum for the duration of the change.

End result is that you may experience some delays loading pages during this time.

New page: Alliance Relationships

Don't know about the rest of you but I have major problems trying to keep track of who is watting with who and are their confeds involved so I added a new page that shows the official relationships between the various alliances in Illy.
As you can see from the screenshot above it very quickly gets so bust as to be unuseable so there are options to set which types of relationships to show (red = war, yellow = NAP, green = Confed) as well as which alliances to show them for.

Hovering over any of the lines will tell you about that relationship while hovering over any of the circles will tell you about that alliance (as seen for Divine Wind in the image) including any other relationships they have.

While this tool is not perfect I couldn't come up with a better way of showing the complex of relationships there are in Illy. Any problems, bugs, suggestions please post here in the forums.

The data for this comes from the alliances data file published daily by the devs and freely downloadable by anyone (should they want to come up with an alternative way of doing it).

Request for help gathering data

I'm currently working on a new version of the NPC Drop database/page that will be in Illystuff. The first part of it is an update to my scripts that send the data to the database so I can now process forwarded reports and that is now working well.

If you would like to help by forwarding reports to me there are some rules on the reports I need:

Rules for submitting reports:

  • Each combat report has to have an accompanying scout report from after the combat.
  • Scout reports must be timed from between the combat and any harvesters arriving.

Simply forward the two messages to me and I'll run my script that puts the data into the database. There is no identifying data sent. Just the location, date/time, NPC details and drop details. Up until now I've only been able to do this for hunts I've done myself but the scripts now work for forwarded reports as well.

I tend to send scouts timed to arrive just after the battle will take place. Then I use the 'Find IGMs' tool in the map popup to get the mails for a given tile. I can then open the battle report followed by the scout report.

Many thanks in advance

Update

Reports MUST be forwarded from the account that originally recieved them. A forwarded forwarded report will crash my scripts and to be honest the coding needed to allow for unlimited forwards is not worth it.

NPC Drop rates update

Fixed a couple of bugs in the display of the data:
  • Fixed the stats tables so each dropped item is now only shown once and rates are correctly calculated for each item.
  • Fixed display of the dropped items in the bottom table (individual reports) so it only shows items actually dropped by the units killed in the battle. A possible exception to this is if there were any qualifying items already on the tile (including hides) when the battle happened.
If you would like to contribute to this project and help increase the accuracy of the drop rates please see the post above.

New Page - World Map Search
I've had a personal tool running on a server on a memory stick for some time now but whenever I've tried to put it on a public server it has crashed it due to the resources needed. Recent upgrades to the server running IllyStuff has given me hope that it map be able to run it.

Below are some screen shots of the page. At present there are no restrictions on how often searches can be run or on the number of results that will be returned. Both of these may change in the future if there is a problem with the server.

Results are returned as links to the tile in the Illy world map (you obviously need to be logged in to Illy to see that).

Added the Account Search page to the menu. This allows you to search for historical accounts as well as current players. Even after a player has left the game and all their towns are gone their profile page still exists. This tool lets you find and view those pages. Update/Bugfix: Custom Map

The biome and Combat Terrains options in the Custom Map tool on IllyStuff is now working again. Note that the data for all of the overlays are stored as bitmap images that are 'full size' for Illy (2001 x 4301). This means that they can actually show an individual tile but at the same time are fairly large and this means the page takes a bit of time to load all the images at the start. The Rare Terrains option doesn't work and will probably never work - these are mostly single buildings which means they would be single pixels at 100% zoom so would be almost impossible to see anyway.

If anyone has any (reasonable) need for their own copy of a particular overlay please let me know and I'll get them listed somewhere when I can.

Pathfinding experiments

Made a couple of minor changes to the https://illystuff.uk/astar/" rel="nofollow - public page for my experiments with pathfinding using the world map in Illy. It now gives 3 different distances for the requested path:
  • Straight Line - a simple hypotenuse calculation between the start and end points.
  • Path Length - the actual length of the calculated path.
  • Weighted Length - the same as the Path Length but with the weight of each tile applied.
Please note that at present the code cannot handle long paths and if you ask it to do one that is too big then it will simply ignore you (hey I'm used to my code ignoring me!).

Currently I'm working on creating a network of pre-defined paths which should then allow the calculation of paths from one corner of the map to the other.

Feel free to have a play around and post any suggestions.

The current situation in the UK means I'm having to do some major re-thinking on all aspects of my budgeting (50% increase in energy bills and 10% increase in rent plus food prices rising by up to 40% with a 3% increase in income).

One of the few things I can cut back on is the money I spend on things like hosting of various websites etc. While this doesn't mean I'm closing DurcTools or IllyStuff I do need to look at ways to reduce the costs. To help me make a decision on what to cut back on/remove I'd really appreciate it if folks could let me know what parts of IllyStuff/Durctools you think are not really of any use/won't be missed.

Faction Action

With the upcoming changes to factions I'm wondering if there would be any interest in re-activating the https://www.factionaction.dewt.me.uk/html/index2.html" rel="nofollow - Faction Action page? I'd need to write something to allow easy reporting of any sightings of faction troops and also update the UI to allow filtering of what factions to display.

With the current setup it allows you to see where a faction has been seen and an idea of how far from each of their hubs they tend to operate (that part is a it buggy) however it is difficult to see what radius is refering to a given hub. The sightings data is also several years old so is probably not that much use anymore.

Perhaps the new GM can manage to get another data feed set up for Faction encampments?

Abandoned Accounts page - Not working(ish)

Got informed yesterday by forum PM that some folks had said in GC that this wasn't working so I've had a look and there is good news and bad news...

Good News: As far as I can tell all the code for loading and displaying this page is working fine!

Bad News: Seems that for some time there has several issues with the daily scripts that update the various database tables from the dev provided datafiles. Tables relating to players, towns and alliances are all affected.

Currently i've got no idea how this happened or how long it will take me to fix but I am working on trying to relearn how I set it all up and what needs changing to fix it.

In the meantime please stay safe, healthy and happy wherever you are in the galaxy/spacetime Smile

Update - Abandoned Accounts page

I think (?) i've got the abandoned accounts page fully functional again but can't be certain till the datafiles update just past midnight tonight.
I've still got no idea why this bug suddenly appeared but I'm going to chalk it up to interference from deep space (ask SC about deep space causing computer bugs next time you see him).
In the meantime I've still got to sort the same issue with the players and alliances tables.

If you do spot any bugs/issues etc (caused by deep space or otherwise) with any of my Illy tools please either post in the forums or send me a PM (Tensmoor) through the forums.

Well my fix yesterday didn't stick so I've gone back and re-examined all the code. Fingers (legs and eyes as well) crossed it will work this time.

I also discovered that the Account Search page wasn't getting updated properly so I've fixed that as well. The results should now include all the accounts since the begining of Illy except for those that have had their details removed by the devs (I think those who break the rules get completely wiped from the system but as usual I could be wrong).

A note on the Account Search:
The unique identifier is the player id so if for instance a player named 'Eric the Fuzzy Monkey' decides to change his name to 'Albert the Hairy Baboon' and then again to 'Sidney the Hirsute Orangutang' only one of those will show up. The first two names will not be found (I think). If however instead of changing his name he abandoned each time and created new accounts then all 3 should show up.

Honestly, I'd argue the best way to handle pathfinding is...well... to not handle pathfinding.

Instead, give players the option of choosing 'roads' themselves from a map screen showing each road. If it's not the most efficient route, ah well, not the devs' problem.

This gives the functionality people seem to want the most (roads) though does mean that terrain's not going to have a role to play. Perhaps that functionality could be added down the road, but it's not as important.

That video is a very basic implimentation of several pathfinding algorithms but is based on a very small grid. Scale it up to cover all of Illy (which it would need to) and suddenly you are looking at trying to find paths over much longer distances which means much greater computation needed which means a long delay between you saying where you want to go and getting a path. Now multiply that by the number of times a second that an army, caravan, diplo, npc moves in Illy and you start to see the problem with the fairly basic pathfinding methods.

If you want to see a much better interactive demo of pathfinding have a look at this:

It's a pathfinder covering Amsterdam and is pretty damn fast. There are also other cities you can load data for.

Alternatively or there is the version I did using the same library at: https://illystuff.uk/pathfinderDemo/" rel="nofollow - https://illystuff.uk/pathfinderDemo/ but it only covers the map from 1000 down to 0 in the Y direction (X is from -1000 to 1000). Some day i might get round to finishing generating all the intermediate grid points and pre-computing the paths between them.

Last time I spoke with SC about pathfinding they were still looking at lots of different methods but that was a little while ago.

One point that folks may not be taking into account when saying they want pathfinding is that it will make it impossible to track diplos etc. Currently with everything being 'straight line' you can make a pretty accurate estimate of where they came from (as long as you see them on the map) but with a non-straightline path they could start the return journey in any direction and it will change all along the way.

Another is that of timing sieges etc. suddenly you will need to have the routes for all armies calculated beforehand in order to work out when each should be sent.

Like everything in life there are always drawbacks to offset perceived bonuses. All in all though, trying to figure out pathfinding was a pretty fun exercise.

Just watched it Dran - it looks really great Smile I do have to question one bit though - 16 servings? I'd eat that in about 3 maybe 4 all on my own Embarrassed
The current economic climate has me doing loads of reading/studying on ways I can reduce costs and I've found a really cheap way of getting my mac'n'cheese fix is to use a stoe bought bechamel that doesn't need the pasta cooked beforehand. I add loads of bacon bits, chopped up broccolli, sweetcorn and extra grated cheese to it before pouring it over the pasta. If I've got any cooked chicked about I'll sometimes add that instead of the bacon. 25mins uncovered then add that vital grated cheese topping before baking for a final 20mins.
With all the extra bits I add in I reckon I add about 25% extra volume which helps make it go a bit further. I normally get about 4 servings from this (it freezes really well).
One of the issues I have with a lot of recipes is they seldom take info account the cost of the cooking and an oven is certainly one of the most expensive things to use but for a lot of stuff it is the only way (that I've found so far). I did recently invest in a tabletop halogen oven though (£45 including all taxes & delivery) that helps reduce that though - under a minute from cold to cooking temp and it's fan assisted so reduces the temp/time needed as well. Cooking it like this costs me about £1.50 so something I can afford whenever I've got the bits.

Got to go now as it's time to go harvest some of the wild cherries right outside my door - hugs to you and Nad.
Stay safe, healthy and happy!

First let us address the servings and cost- 16 1/2 cup servings as a side, as far as budget friendly, this dish(my version) is far from budget friendly. This dish set me back a bit(about $6 per 8oz block of cheese which I only used 4 kinds instead of the typically 6-8), and second- you sir did exactly what I want my viewers to do, make things their own. Experiment and improve is my motto. By adding all those delicious ingredients you have turned a side into a main dish which is to be another episode. I will also be doing an episode dealing with leftover chicken and using that to make a chicken pot pie on top of other budget friendly meals.
Well brother smoking a pork shoulder, testing before I attempt it for show, take care and Nad sends love

World Map File Search Bug Fix

Fixed(?) the bug where if you tried searching on either the coords or GEOID the tool crashed. This was due to a completely stupid mistake on my part when I added the ability to filter by adjacent tiles cbt terrains.

Please note that there are still limitations on the neighbours search in that if you try searching too large an area it will crash the tool giving you no results. I'm still trying to fix that.

Please let me know if you find any errors/glitches - if folks don't tell me something is broke then it won't get fixed!
