I am starting this Topic as a place to post the content from social media posts that we're making about characters from the Faction Lore. These brief summaries describe a range of different characters from the lore, including (but not limited to):
- Authors, historians, scribes, and other academics who are responsible for the writing and publishing of books used in Faction profiles and Faction Outpost descriptions.
- Characters of all sorts that are described in Faction Lore -- most of whom are deceased, but some who are still living and serving Factions (or themselves) in a number of different ways.
- Other characters who have been created for future use in Faction lore but have not yet been used in any in-game content.
All of the summaries below are derived from much more detailed profiles that have yet to be published, but will be at a later time. In the meantime, let these brief summaries serve as references for Faction characters.
I'd ask you to please not comment in this Topic thread (and I might turn comments off), just so that it is easy for players to easily scroll through the content. Thank you!

Rakkos Meillo, The Half-Elf Minstrel, was a well-traveled bard who played in the courts of a multitude of Factions throughout his life. In his later years, he composed “Journey Across Illyria,” a collection of his memoirs and travel notes from decades of travel. Excerpts from the book are quoted in the Faction profiles of the Apaxu, Windseekers, and Parlan.

Jeef Cumberstone is the closest thing that the Outlaws get to an ambassador and spokesperson. Among the rif-raf in the city of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-687/340" rel="nofollow - Cask , his official title is "Puller of the Short Straw," since no one wanted the job of being the diplomat for a Faction made up of Illyria's motley crew of scum and villainy. In spite of his resentment toward the role, Cumberstone is actually pretty good at it; he epitomizes the dark and opportunistic nature of the Outlaws faction. His ability to combine charm with ruthlessness makes him a formidable diplomat, always ready to exploit any situation for the benefit of his band of bandits.

Kheldon Runestaff, the famed "Warrior-Mage" of Illyria, was well-traveled, bringing him face-to-face with various monsters, which he meticulously cataloged in his book, "The Monstrous Races of Illyria." You can read about his encounters on the profile pages of the Arakvar, Harpies, and Daedalons.
Runestaff was also the first to disclose his possession of the famed Helios Halberd: A weapon of immense power, rumored to contain a shard of life itself. The whereabouts of the Helios Halberd is not currently known, but elven archmages of several of the elven Factions note that the item still exists in the world, as they have sensed its magical presence.
This is an image of the Helios Halberd:

Llanawi Puresoul is not one of the major writers of Illyria -- in her lifetime during the Second Age, she served as the Chief Physician of the Office For Cleansing in the Argirian https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/34/-1796" rel="nofollow - Halls of Care , rising to the rank of Chief Physician and overseeing the well-being of countless elves and other inhabitants of the realm. You may also know her as the Author of "The History of Loss and Hope," a text that chronicles the history of the Order of the Silver Light and The Sundering. You can read her account on the https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Alliance/Faction/83" rel="nofollow - Argiri's Faction profile page .
The staff that she is holding in the image above is the Staff of Lúthieniel, a legendary artifact passed down through elven generations, originating from the esteemed healer Lúthieniel, who lived during the Age of Stars. Imbued with her essence, this staff has become a symbol of healing and protection. In recognition of her unparalleled contributions to healing and care, the staff was given to Llanawi Puresoul, the Chief Physician of the Office for Cleansing in the Argiri's Halls of Care, in the Second Age.
The staff amplifies the healing abilities of its bearer, allowing them to mend wounds and cure ailments with extraordinary efficacy. Additionally, it provides a protective aura against dark forces, enabling healers to dispel dark magic and protect themselves and others from malevolent influences.

Known as "The Valiant," Captain Eadric is the most famous living officer in the Duchy of Keppen's military service. The description of the elven flets of Ailindale is written by the elven scribe Eldarion the Chronicler, Keeper of the Elven Histories. While it is not precisely known which elven Faction Eldarion is from, most assume that he was born in https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-312/-2389" rel="nofollow - Dolunhill , one of the trade hubs of The Tears Eternal, given his knowledge of the elven flets of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-324/-2375" rel="nofollow - Ailindale . However, Dolunhill is also known as a refuge for those in mourning, with many elves from The College of Silence traveling there when loved ones pass on to the next world. Some scholars believe that Eldarion may have been born and raised around The https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-375/-2119" rel="nofollow - Hall of Reflection and eventually traveled to Dolunhill with his family, eventually settling in Ailindale.

What do we know about Zeliana Maesworth, Chronicler of the Order of the Lantern? Not much. Her race and origins are unclear, but Historians speculate that she may have been an Argirian elf or a traveling human (her last name suggests the latter). Zeliana's life was marked by extensive travels across the lands, where she encountered various cultures and factions. Her journeys took her to the revered mountain watch tower of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/755/376" rel="nofollow - Koranthika , where she documented the lives and duties of its inhabitants.
Zeliana's chronicles are the only surviving accounts of the Order of the Lantern. Her writings detail the clandestine group as being associated with Kanchalkans. Known in their language as Dipasamgha Pradipasamgha, the group is largely shrouded in mystery and revered for their sacred duty to maintain the beacon at the tower of Koranthika.

Isiriana Elissede, Mistress of the Lyrian trade house of the Silver Arcs in Lantellyn, is one of the most important chroniclers of Faction lore in Illyrian history: in addition to her work on documenting the people of Kanchalka, she also wrote accounts of the Udan Tebriz, the Guardians of Zera, and her harrowing meeting with Tenaril.
Isiriana Elissede's journey to https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-43/-973" rel="nofollow - Stormstone was not merely to chronicle Tenaril from afar -- she sought to meet the legendary enchanter face to face. Daring to step inside Stormstone, Isiriana found herself in a vast chamber, its walls inscribed with golden runes that glistened in the faint light. At the center of the room stood Tenaril, his form illuminated by a magical light that seemed to emanate from within him and illuminate the very stones of the tower.
Tenaril, a figure of both Elven and Human legend, appeared ageless, his presence commanding yet serene. As Isiriana watched, the light around him intensified, casting intricate patterns across the chamber's walls. The enchanter's eyes met hers, and in that moment, Isiriana felt a profound connection, as if the wisdom of ages was being imparted to her. Though no words were spoken, the encounter left an indelible mark on her soul, a testament to the power and mystery of Tenaril and the ancient magics of Stormstone.
Isiriana Elissede also befriended and collaborated with Zeliana Maesworth in chronicling the Kanchalkan tower of Koranthika and its Order of the Lantern.

Sister Ilsa Engladottir was born into a humble human family in the northern reaches of Elgea. From a young age, she displayed a keen intellect and a deep curiosity about the world around her. Her parents, recognizing her potential, sent her to study at the Order of Allembine.
Sister Ilsa's work brought her into contact with various factions, including the Nordlanders and the Council of Illyria. Her writings on the history of the North were instrumental in fostering understanding and cooperation between these groups.
She was also known to have engaged in diplomatic discussions with the Lords of the West on behalf of the Order of Allembine, using her keen observation skills to navigate their complex web of alliances and rivalries.
In her later years, Sister Ilsa returned to the Order of Allembine, where she continued her scholarly pursuits, settling in the Order’s city of Orelys. Her work, "A History of the North," remains a seminal text for historians and scholars alike.

Aldren Half-Elven, a Dyadin/Human half-elf, was the Chronicler of the Vesperian Archives at Vespera, which is a tower and library aligned with Stormstone Tower and closely associated with the Tenaril Faction. He wrote of the Kadu’s Nokuma Bato Human Border Town on his scrolls.
Aldren's contributions to the world of Illyriad are immeasurable, and his legacy as a chronicler and explorer endures through the ages. Like Isiriana Elissede, he met with Tenaril himself and likely consorted with him in his writings, though there is no. definitive proof to confirm this assertion.

Empress Cymbeline was a great Azurian leader who established the Azure Throne as a major political force in Elgea. As a young woman born into the Azurian nobility and educated in both the humanities and statecraft, she first established herself as a military leader, which led to her ascendency to the throne as the Realm's Empress.
Later in her rule, she saw the economic and military reach of the Azure Throne diminished by the tragic and mysterious fire at the Tarponsea docks, which to this day remains unsolved. However, the particularly destructive nature of the fire, which was described by firsthand witnesses as behaving like a "living thing" that "appeared to jump from ship to ship" suggested the hand of The Circle of Five in starting the fire. Indeed, the description of the Circle of Five used on the Faction's profile comes from an excerpt of an intelligence report prepared for Empress Cymbeline (likely prepared for her decades before the incident in Tarponsea.)
New evidence suggests that in the decades between Cymbeline's inquiries regarding The Circle of Five, she and Archmage Stendas maintained a secret correspondence that degraded over time, with the Circle eventually taking action to staunch the Azure Throne's potential threat to the Council of Illyria's hegemony in Elgea.
Not long after her intelligence services began compiling a dossier on the Circle of Five, it is believed that Cymbeline either traveled covertly to Stormstore or had closely guarded correspondence couriered to the Circle's great tower to establish a line of communication between the two Factions, with Cymbeline reaching out directly to the group's human sorcerer, Archmage Stendas.
Over the decades, while this correspondence likely continued, Stendas and The Circle grew wary of Cymbeline's expansionist policies, which threatened the balance of power in Illyria. While it is suggested that Empress Cymbeline and Archmage Stendas were initially allies to some degree, their partnership soured as Cymbeline's ambitions grew. Stendas, who valued the equilibrium of magical forces, saw Cymbeline's aggressive expansion as a destabilizing force. Although their correspondence and disagreements never became public at the time, their tenuous diplomatic relationship quickly devolved into bitterness, with Cymbeline accusing Stendas of meddling in state affairs of the Azure Throne, and Stendas warning of the consequences of unchecked ambition.
The Circle of Five's Inter-factional standing with the Council of Illyria and the Order of Allembine illustrates their longstanding alignment with the Council's hegemonic control of Elgea. The Arch Mages, and particularly Stendas, may have seen the fire as a necessary intervention to curb Cymbeline's power. By crippling Azuria's naval capabilities, they aimed to halt her expansion and restore balance. The fire served as a warning to Cymbeline and other rulers who might overreach their bounds, and may have been a proxy action suggested or ordered by the Council of Illyria and/or the Order of Allembine.
While no records implicate the Circle of Five directly in the fire at Tarponsea, it is now believed that a powerful spell sparked and fed the devastating inferno, cast by Shamaster Maldak of the Orcs, wielder of flame, in collaboration with Enchantress Elissa of the Elves, controller of the wind and skies, and Stendas himself, who could control the sea and command it to lie flat so that Elissa's strong winds could whip the port at Tarponsea and fan the destructive flames.
The fire at Tarponsea docks marked a turning point in Cymbeline's reign. While she continued to rule with determination, the loss of her fleet weakened Azuria's hold over the seas. The incident deepened the mystery surrounding the Circle of Five and their true intentions. Empress Cymbeline's legacy remains one of both admiration and caution, a reminder of the delicate balance between power and restraint in the world of Illyria.

Dunbarr Rockcrusher was a Dwarven Elder and Author of “The Histories of the Dwarf Clans.” Without Dunbar's "Histories," we'd know very little about the Dwarven clans in Elgea. He was born in the heart of the Dwarven stronghold of Tor Carrock – a place renowned for its Dwarven fortresses and ancient traditions – and is likely to have hailed from descendants of Clan Moedagh.
Rockcrusher's magnum opus, “The Histories of the Dwarf Clans,” is a seminal work that chronicles the rise and fall of Dwarven civilization from the First Age to the present, with a particular focus on the Dwarven clans of Elgea. The book begins with a prologue that recounts the creation of the world by the Maker and his Artefores, setting the stage for the Dwarves' golden age of invention and prosperity.
You'll find an excerpt of his "Histories" in the Faction profiles of Clans Bealagh, Moedagh, and Reashag -- all three of which were written by Rockcrusher himself -- as well as an included excerpt from the 'Mercenary Groups of Illyria,' written by the retired general, Thomas Lannigold.
Dunbarr's meticulous research and vivid storytelling bring to life the grandeur of Dwarven achievements, from the crafting of iron to the construction of mechanical warriors. His work is both a celebration of Dwarven heritage and a cautionary tale of the consequences of straying from the path set by the Maker.

Barnard of Shelton was a Master Trader for the Illyria Trade Council. He was famous for establishing trade routes throughout Illyria, with his exploits in the Broken Lands being the most famous and documented. He forged notably strong trade relationships with the Overoad Traders, Clan Dollogh, The College of Silence, The Tears Eternal, and The Pirate Kings, often in the face of extreme difficulty and almost-certain peril. Excerpts from his journal entries are widely used as historical accounts for all of the abovementioned Factions, as well as the Kartur-Hhakrall's Faction Outpost of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-492/-2342" rel="nofollow - Balinhar .

Last month, new manuscripts written by Illyria Trade Council's Master Trader Barnard of Shelton were discovered by Council’s Chief Elgean Negotiator, Marcellus Goldvein in the Faction Outpost of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-106/-3" rel="nofollow - Willowbank in Middle Kingdom, not far from the southeast borders of Meilla. The account, which is believed to be contemporaneous with Saxil of Tundale's description of the Gith in 1018, is the only known record of Barnard's trade exploits in Elgea.
You can read the full account underneath Saxil's excerpt on https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Alliance/Faction/67" rel="nofollow - Sundog Gith's Faction profile .
Barnard is also famous for having procured -- and later traded -- the extremely valuable Astrolabe of Tal, which was initially plundered from the defeat of the Kingdom of Tal's legendary Admiral Eldrin at sea by the notorious pirate captain Ravena, the head trademistress for the pirates’ leader Ulharadd. During a fierce naval battle against marauding pirates, the astrolabe was captured from the Admiral's flagship by a group of pirates from the Broken Lands whose ship was part of an armada led by Ravena, the cunning head trader of the Pirate Kings.

Recognizing its immense value and using her sharp wit and charm, Ravana brokered a deal with her fellow pirates, trading the entire fleet of stolen Tallian ships for the astrolabe, thereby enhancing her reputation as a masterful trader and navigator. Her reputation for trade was later marred by her tendency to indulge in too much rum with trading counterparts, and she squandered the value of the item in a bad trade with Barnard of Shelton, who later traded it to the Overoad Traders for a wealth of gemstones in order to win a contest.
The Astrolabe of Tal is still believed to be in the possession of the Overoad Traders, though it has not been seen in nearly a decade.

Ravena Chastewithe, known colloquially as Ravena the Pirate, was born into a family of seafarers in the coastal village of Blackwater, where the salty breeze, crashing waves, and bustle of ships entering and leaving port shaped her early years. From a young age, she was captivated by tales of adventure and treasure, often sneaking aboard merchant ships to learn the ways of the sea. Her parents, both skilled navigators, instilled in her a deep understanding of maritime lore and the art of trading. By her teenage years, Ravena had already earned a reputation as a fierce and cunning negotiator, often outsmarting older traders in the bustling docks. As an adult, she joined a crew led by the infamous Ulharadd, the leader of the Pirate Kings. Her sharp wit and strategic mind — particularly when the fleet would trade their bounties in port with other pirates and traders – quickly earned her the title of head trademistress, responsible for orchestrating many lucrative deals and daring escapades. While she was fervently loyal to Ulharadd, she also brokered trade deals for all the pirate kings throughout her lifetime.
Throughout her career, Ravena established connections with various factions, including the Overoad Traders and the Kingdom of Tal. Her reputation as a ruthless yet fair trader drew the attention of many, including Barnard of Shelton, who sought rare maritime goods. Their meeting, marked by a game of wits and storytelling, showcased her negotiation skills and led to an unexpected friendship. Despite her dealings often being marred by her indulgence in rum, her influence within the Pirate Kings and her trading prowess made her a respected figure among factions across the realm.

His role involved chronicling the reign of King Sigurd, whom he admired greatly for his wisdom and generosity. Gavyn is still alive.
Among the rare items associated with Gavyn is the Luminous Tome of Eldarion the Chronicler, a legendary scribe of the Tears Eternal. This tome, gifted to Gavyn by Eldarion himself to add to his personal library, is believed to have imbued and inspired his writings with unparalleled clarity and insight. The tome is now rumored to be housed in the vaulted archives of the Library of Illyria.

Quixpan Wavechaser, the ex-sailer, adventurer, and author, was born in the bustling trade hub of Parlantis, a vibrant city known for its maritime culture and bustling docks. Growing up in Parlantis, Quixpan was surrounded by tales of the sea and the adventures of sailors who visited the port.
As a young man, Quixpan set sail on numerous voyages, exploring the vast oceans of Illyria. His adventures took him to distant shores and introduced him to the myriad wonders of the sea. Among his many encounters, one of the most memorable was his meeting with the Demersae merfolk. These mysterious sea-dwellers were both feared and revered, and Quixpan's encounter with them left an indelible mark on his soul. He described the Demersae as hauntingly beautiful, with an aura of mystique that both terrified and fascinated him.
Quixpan Wavechaser's journey took an unexpected turn when a fierce storm caught his ship off the coast of southern Larn. The tempest tossed his vessel against the rocky shores of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/598/-972" rel="nofollow - Jjrepottyl , a deserted island known for its treacherous reefs and isolation. Stranded and alone, Quixpan faced certain death. One evening, as he sat by the shore, he noticed a shimmering figure emerging from the waves. It was a beautiful Demersae mermaid, her skin a mesmerizing blue-green, adorned with shells and seaweed. Her name was Seraphina, a princess among the Demersae.
Seraphina and Quixpan spent many days together, sharing stories of their worlds. As they explored the island and the surrounding waters, they found solace in each other's company. Their bond deepened, and they fell in love, transcending the boundaries between their different worlds.
Before returning Quixpan to the mainland, Seraphina presented him with a precious gift – The Coral Necklace of Akualis. This necklace, crafted by the Demersae, was imbued with the power of the sea. It was a kingly gift, said to protect its wearer from the dangers of the ocean, including the dreaded Harpies. Seraphina gave the necklace to Quixpan as a symbol of their love, ensuring that he would forever remember their time together and remain safe on his voyage back to Parlantis.
Understanding that they could never be together, Quixpan and Seraphina parted company forever, and it is reported that Quixpan never loved again. Seraphina’s eternal sadness is said to have been captured in the faint melody of the wind when it blows through the Demersaen city of Akualis in Larn and out to sea.
During his travels, Quixpan also spent a significant period among the Windseekers, a faction known for their mastery of the seas and their harmonious relationship with the elements. The Windseekers taught him the art of navigating the treacherous waters and the secrets of the winds, as well as how to avoid the Harpies.
In his later years, Quixpan settled down and began to chronicle his adventures. His tales were compiled into a popular collection titled "Across Land and Sea," which captivated readers with vivid descriptions of his encounters and the diverse cultures he experienced.

Details of Quixpan Wavechaser's shipwreck off the coast of Larn and rescue by the Demersaen Princess Seraphina introduces a new character into Illyriad's lore. Much of Seraphina's early life remains shrouded in the same mystery of her kin. As a princess of the Demersae, an elven faction of sea-dwelling beings who live underwater and ashore (often referred to as "mermaids" and "mermen" by some humans), she was born into the opulent realm of the Akualis – a mostly underwater citadel of the ocean-dwelling elves with its only land-based gate located on the shores of Larn. Virtually nothing is known of her familial line, save for the fact that she identified herself to her lover Quixpan Wavechaser as a Princess of the Demersaen Nobility and that her father – as yet unnamed – is the ruler of the realm.
The later years of Seraphina's life are as enigmatic as her early ones. Aside from Wavechaser’s accounts, she has only been seen for fleeting moments by terrified Larn fishermen who thought her to be a Harpie or other sea monster. Given the fact that the Demersae are elven, she is believed to be alive and still associated with her kin in the royal court of Akualis. Rumors suggest that she continues to roam the seas, perhaps still visiting the island where she met -- and ultimately departed -- Quixpan.
The lost love of Seraphina and Quixpan embodies the pain and emptiness felt by many throughout Illyria as a result of the great Sundering.

Sanir Di'qualinin is the High Archivar of the High Kings court, Secretary of the Royal histories society, and Magistrate of Pelimont for the Council of Illyria. Sanir Di'qualinin was born in the bustling hub of Cleftwood, immersed in a world of commerce, diplomacy, and the rich tapestry of human history that the Council of Illyria is known for. His early life was marked by an education that emphasized the principles of governance, trade, and historical scholarship, which nurtured his keen intellect and curiosity about the wider world.
As he grew older, Sanir embarked on numerous expeditions to document the histories and cultures of Illyriad's diverse factions and cities. His narratives explored the Sillar, Dragonkin and, more recently, the Blood Reavers.
Sanir Di'qualinin's experience with the Blood Reavers and subsequent writings are not used as the primary knowledge source for the faction – instead, Saxil of Tundale’s travels to and negotiations with the Orcish tribes in 1018 represent the most trusted knowledge graph for the Blood Reavers. However, Di'qualinin did interact with the Blood Reavers, and his observations, while largely in agreement with Saxil’s accounts, help to broaden the understanding of this faction.
His quest to unravel the mysteries of the Dragonkin has been and continues to be a lifelong pursuit, characterized by meticulous research and an insatiable curiosity. Unlike many of his other projects, his knowledge of the Dragonkin is not derived from firsthand encounters but rather from an extensive study of ancient texts, fragmented accounts, and the elusive whispers of legend. He has never encountered one of the Dragonkin’s priests or worshippers, much less a dragon.

Our first expanded profile of an orc character looks at Drudzak the Cunning-Teller, whose report is used in the faction profile of the Drek-Hhakrall. Drudzak was spawned from the fetid depths of the orc hovel of Khaz'rak, a structure renowned among the Drek-Hhakrall for producing orcs with uncanny intellect. Khaz'rak’s hovels, filled with the pulsating ichor of their dark rituals, birthed Drudzak fully grown and imbued with a mind sharper than any blade. The shamans overseeing his spawning believed his crimson eyes and the intricate black veins etched across his skin were marks of an otherworldly favor. From his first moments, Drudzak displayed a natural talent for deciphering omens, weaving tales of prophecy, and crafting strategies, earning the attention of his kin.
Throughout his life, Drudzak embarked on numerous adventures and encounters that solidified his reputation. He brokered uneasy alliances with the Pirate Kings and misled the dwarven Overoad Traders of The Brothers’ Haven into abandoning the silversteel mine in the High Hills with his tales of a cursed vein that was on the verge of collapse. In the swamps of Grelmarsh near the forsaken orc-infested ruin of Nargul, he outwitted a coven of necromancers, turning their summoned horrors against them and claiming their ancient, magical relics for the tribe.
Drudzak’s rise to the position of Cunning-Teller for Great Chief Kujagur was marked by his unmatched ability to manipulate both foes and allies with words and wit. During his early years, he gained renown by interpreting an eclipse as a sign of Kujagur's destined conquest, which soon came true in a resounding victory against rival clans.
Drudzak’s interactions with other factions were as varied as they were consequential. The elves of Argiri begrudgingly respected his cunning, even as they cursed his role in the theft of their sacred Moonshard. The human merchants of the South Oceans Company learned to fear his silver tongue, which turned trade deals into traps.
Drudzak’s eventual disappearance from Khaz'rak—whether by death, exile, or some darker fate—remains one of the tribe’s enduring mysteries.
While there are several rare items associated with Drudzak's, among the most important is the Shadowbone Talisman, a relic of enigmatic power, which was once a prized possession of the necromancers of Nargul. Crafted from the bones of ancient, shadow-dwelling creatures, it was imbued with dark enchantments that allowed its bearer to peer into the minds of others, unraveling their deepest intentions. Drudzak the Cunning-Teller, a formidable figure among the Drek-Hhakrall, cunningly seized the talisman during a daring raid on the necromancers' lair, adding to his reputation as a master of deception and strategy. The talisman, with its eerie glow and whispering aura, became a symbol of Drudzak's unparalleled insight and tactical prowess, feared by allies and enemies alike.

Graxil the Shrewd is a new character to illyriad lore, as he has never appeared in any writings or Faction profiles. Spawned within the chaotic labyrinths of Urkthul, Graxil emerged into the Parvacones clan, learning the harsh rules of survival and cunning through brutal and violent means. The atmosphere of tension and fierce competition shaped Graxil into a figure capable of navigating the treacherous politics and rivalries within the older orcs. Despite the brutality of his upbringing, he quickly distinguished himself as one with a sharp mind, even in the overseer's violent training pits, preparing him for the myriad challenges he would face.
He eventually rose up the ranks of Parvacones to be given the title "Manflesh Sniffer of the Parvacones" due to his unique role as a kind of pseudo-diplomat for an otherwise near-feral faction, where he spent unprecedented time among humans compared to his kobold kin. His missions – which were always one part diplomatic and another part subversive – often brought him to the edges of human territories where he observed their behaviors, customs, and subtle nuances. Over time, this exposure allowed him to familiarize himself with the distinct scent of humans, something few Parvacones could claim. The title "Manflesh Sniffer" is not a literal description, but rather a Parvacones expression, signifying Graxil's deep understanding of human ways and his ability to maneuver through their world with ease. It encapsulated both his strategic acumen and his indispensable role in bridging the oft-violent chasm between his faction and the human realm, marking him as a figure of both admiration and cautious reverence.
Graxil met his end in an unlikely and darkly unfortunate clash of miscommunication, befitting the tales surrounding him. During one of his daring escapades in the murky marshlands of Bolgskarn, he found himself in a clandestine negotiation with a notoriously dense ogre named Blarg. While attempting to negotiate the exchange of an ancient relic, Graxil gestured to an ornate club carried by Blarg, attempting to compliment its craftsmanship and ponderous weight. Unfortunately for Graxil, the words "impressive weight" were lost in translation. Blarg, mistaking it for an invitation, eagerly offered a hearty demonstration of the club's heft and his prowess in swinging it. With a gleeful swing, the ogre accidentally golfed Graxil’s head clean off, sending it careening through the window of a nearby wayhouse. Though the wayhouse is now deserted, it is said that Graxil’s head was taxidermied by the building’s last tenant and mounted above the hearth where it remains even to this day.

Did you notice what Graxil is holding is in his hand? That is the "Cog of Deepdelve," a Dwarven relic he stole during his numerous expeditions into ancient dwarven ruins. This artifact is reputed to possess a mystical connection with mechanical constructs, allowing its bearer to harness the power of long-lost Dwarven machinery. The gear was cut from the living rock and carved into what was once a functional cog used in Dwarven mining equipment. The middle is plated with yellow gold, featuring ancient Dwarven runes etched into it. While Dwarven in construction and design, it is now considered a possession of the Parvacones. In kobold culture, the Cog is a symbol of shrewd intellect and cunning – attributes seldom associated with the frenetically violent and feral greenskins.
Whoever possesses the Cog of Deepdelve receives a 25% boost in their siege engines' movement speed. However, it is understood that the cog is deeply guarded by the Parvacones.

Li Lon Go is mentioned in the lore of Illyriad as the Third Adept of the House of the Tranquil Waters. He is notably recognized for writing about the Taolin Vu, the God of the Heights and Eagles, one of the six Gods of the Upper Circle. Li Lon Go's writings explore the disdain that Taolin Vu holds for most creatures of Illyria, referring to them as “mud-crawlers.” The god, however, shows favor towards mountain dwellers, whom he deems worthy of his favor. This deity, receiving the mighty Mountains of Taomist and the mountain men of Kanchalka from Lao Te Shin, First amongst the Gods, is a significant part of Illyria's mythological history, as documented by Li Lon Go.
Li Lon Go was born a mortal in Laoshin, the city of Qi Quien, which was under the rule of the mighty Tien Zao faction. Li Lon Go's status took him from Qi Quien to Baolan, the stronghold of the Forbidden Empire. There, he created strong alliances and forged bitter rivalries, rising in status among the Imperial Court to be named Third Adept to the Emperor. His interactions with the Eaglesbrood and the Kanchalka speak of strategic alliances, masterful planning, and a deep understanding of inter-faction relations.
As the Third Adept of the House of the Tranquil Waters, Li Lon Go was not a stranger to the whispers of the wind and the allure of the mighty mountains. His soul called to the peaks of Taomist, where the Giant Eagles of the Eaglesbrood were said to soar freely, guardians of the skies and eyries beyond the clouds.
Guided by the people of the Kanchalka, he ascended the treacherous slopes with great reverence, guided by the tales of old and the blessing of Taolin Vu, God of the Heights. With every step, he felt the watchful eyes of the Eagle Riders, humans who shared a deep relationship with these majestic creatures, ensuring that only the worthy could enter their realm.
Reaching the vast eyries that spanned the mountain's breath, Li Lon Go marveled at their grandeur. His time among the Eagles was illuminating. The Guardian Eagles formed defensive lines as they circled their home, ensuring no intruder could breach their high sanctum. Scout Eagles often took flight, their keen eyes surveying vast distances, while Hunter Eagles demonstrated unparalleled prowess, securing sustenance from the earth below.

Gron Drak Skullsplitter is the court bard to the Pax Orcana — which is a significant position, given the importance of storytelling and preserving history through both oral and written tradition among the Pax, with their Faction being among the few greenskins who use the written word. Gron Drak Skullsplitter is responsible for recording tales, creating songs, and recounting stories of valor and history, particularly tailored to the tastes and traditions of the Pax Orcana. His writings about the Fratri Hominis are used as the primary source for their faction profile, demonstrating the veracity of his storytelling prowess and understanding of the faction's history.
Spawned amidst the tumultuous environment of the Skullsplitter tribe, Gron came into existence in the rugged terrains of Elgea. From the moment he opened his eyes, the harsh reality of the orcish life became his tutor. As he grew, Gron exhibited an uncanny aptitude for storytelling and an obsession with lore – a rare talent among the greenskin race.
Gron Drak's journeys led him across Elgea, quenching his unending thirst for tales and the orcish lore beyond his clan's history. His wit and charm made him a sought-after envoy and loremaster, often spinning narratives that influenced many a battlefield outcome.
Prior to his role as Bard, he served the Pax Orcana as a diplomat of sorts, placing him in a unique position to influence the Pax’s inter-factional relations with a number of other Factions and races, aligning with the broader tendencies of orcish diplomacy. He was generally successful in forging and growing relationships with non-orcish greenskin factions, as their shared cultural and racial ties promoted increased greekskin might and the Pax’s “peace through death” motto.
Perhaps his most significant diplomatic work is represented in the Pax’s close ties with both the Zau Brulk and Drangu Mundas, with the orcish empire boasting the capabilities of leveraging the unparalleled might and ferocity of both trolls and ogres on the battlefield (though never together, given the enmity between the two giant greenskin species).
In the annals of the Pax Orcana, the tale of Gron Drak Skullsplitter's diplomatic venture into the dominion of the Drangu Mundas ogres is both a testimony to shrewd diplomacy and the power of narrative. The ogres, dwelling within the region of Kal Tirikan, are to this day known for their formidable might and grim reputation as formidable adversaries. During a time when the Pax Orcana sought to bolster their strength against rising threats, Gron Drak was dispatched to parley with these elusive giants.
Approaching their sacred lands with respect and lore, Gron Drak’s astute observations of the ogres’ intrinsic values revealed a key to their hearts: a longing for honor and remembrance in ages to come. Through carefully crafted tales and strategic praise of their strength, he cast the Pax Orcana and Drangu Mundas as partners in a great saga yet to be written — a narrative that promised renown and a legacy of valor for the lumbering ogres. Skullsplitter composed a short, unfinished verse that he taught to the ogres, with a danging final line that begged to resolve with the word “smite:”
In mist-laden valleys where shadows dance, The trolls of Drangu Mundas advance, With might and roar, they join the fray, Their foes retreat at break of day.
In battle's clamor, their strength is known, With thunderous blows and courage shown, Their laughter echoes, fierce and wild, Enemies flee, downcast and beguiled.
Their arms are like the ancient oaks, With each swing of club, the earth awoke, The ground beneath them shakes with fear, Their power unmatched, the end is near.
Yet this tale yearns for its final verse, A tale of triumph to disperse, The ending waits, your deeds to write, Go forth, brave ogres, in valor's light.
Earn thou’st glory with every soul ye . . The ogres, swayed by such grand prospects, immediately stormed off in a clamor, leaving a path of destruction and death on their way to the Pax’s battlefield with Tipu Khan and bellowing “smite!” with every deadly swing of their clubs against the Khan’s Keshigs.
As the years dawned upon him, Gron's fiery adventures gave way to a role steeped in legacy and mentorship. He became the court bard to the Pax Orcana, steeping his later years not in conquests but in the telling of them, crafting the songs and stories that would preserve his tribe's valor and deeds. The renown he gained provided him with a platform from which to influence young orcish minds, shaping future leaders and storytellers alike.
Even in quieter times, his presence remains impactful — a bridge to times past, drawing together traditions with newfound horizons.

Cirian Danorian is a distinguished figure renowned for his role as Commander of the High Guard of Virten. As a trusted leader and strategist, he commands respect across many factions, including his own Kartur-Hhakrall guards. Born in the Virten city of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-849/-2475" rel="nofollow - Helnsbere , Cirian is noted for his deep reconnaissance missions and strategic acumen, often navigating complex alliances and rivalries in the realms he oversees. His connection with the Crown Guardsmen of the Kartur-Hhakrall and his interactions with the Free Orcs highlight his diplomatic skills and ability to coordinate diverse groups toward a common goal. Throughout his career, Cirian has been instrumental in maintaining the stability and influence of Virten, leaving a legacy marked by loyalty and valor.
His diplomatic skills are frequently employed in negotiations between rival factions, such as the regal High Elves of Llwcharion and the Dwarves associated with the Overoad Traders, of which Virten maintains a positive diplomatic relationship due in large part to Danorian’s diplomatic parlance with them.

Cirian's collaboration with the Kartur-Hhakrall enabled him to further integrate their formidable Crown Guardsmen into Virten's defenses. His interactions with the Free Orcs is well documented in his journal account of a deep reconnaissance mission into their lands, aided by Kartur-Hhakrall guardsmen. While the mission was largely fruitless, Danorian did manage to meet several Warlords of the Free Orcs, including Ghorza Gazat-thrak, one of the prominent Chieftains of the Free Orcs. While Danorian left with no positive sense of agreement with her, Gazat-thrak did tacitly grant him and his Kartur-Hhakrall guards free passage out of Free Orc lands – even after the Kartur-Hhakrall skirmished with her soldiers in prior days.
One of his notable explorations led him to the ancient forests of Kingslands, where he briefly spotted and greeting the elusive Treefolk, of which little is known or written. Cirian's accounts of this interaction are believed to be chronicled in his journal, though he has not made those accounts public, save for his acknowledgement that he has indeed seen and spoken to them, albeit briefly.

Ghorza Gazat-thrak is a formidable chieftain of the Free Orcs, known for her battle prowess and strategic acumen. Her rise to leadership was marked by a series of decisive victories that solidified her position as a respected and, at times, feared leader among her people. When Cirian Danorian ventured into Free Orc territory on a reconnaissance mission, he was greeted by Ghorza's stern diplomacy and sharp intellect. Unintimidated by the presence of Kartur-Hhakrall guards, she negotiated terms that benefited both the Free Orcs and Virten, showcasing her skills as a diplomat as well as a warrior. To this day, the 2 factions maintain a largely neutral relationship due to her willingness to give free passage back to Virten for Danorian and his troops.
Ghorza's leadership continues to inspire her people, and her diplomatic interactions with Cirian have paved the way for stronger relations between the Free Orcs and other factions in Illyriad.

Mirexeth Vorthyn is believed to be the current High Priestess of the Dragonkin, residing in or around the https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-517/-955" rel="nofollow - Spire of Drakenthyr on Farra Isle in southern Elgea. While seldom seen and even more seldom spoken to, Vorthyn is likely responsible for the recent awakening of living dragons and the rekindling of the Dragon faction in Illyria, thanks to her immense magical abilities and possession of rare artifacts and heirlooms associated with ancient dragons.
Vorthyn was born and raised in the fishing village of https://forum.illyriad.co.uk/faction-lore-places_topic11181_post112130.html#112130" rel="nofollow - Windwyrm , which is located on the sandy shores of the Bay of Rill near the the Windseeker Faction Outpost of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/-656/-876" rel="nofollow - Aurelia . It was likely the towering dragon statue that inspired Vorthyn to pursue the mysterious dragon arts. Leaving behind her family, she embarked on an adventurous pilgrimage to uncover the secrets she thought were her destiny. Along the way, it is believed that she procured perhaps the largest single collection of dragon fossils, relics, and heirlooms, second only to King Sigurd’s cache of dragon bones that are now understood to be what was used to create the corps of undead dragons that were unleashed in 1037.
Her path intertwined with other dragon followers and, once reaching Farra Isle and demonstrating her knowledge and passion for dragons, she was soon inducted into the modern-day chapter of the ancient and mysterious Ordo Draconis. Rumored now to be the leader of the Dragonkin, Mirexeth Vorthyn’s influence is deeply entrenched in the faction's myths and rituals. Operating from the secretive Spire of Drakenthyr, she orchestrates the faction’s covert activities with an air of solemnity and undeniable authority.
Specifically, it is believed that Vorthyn is directly responsible for conducting a series of grand magical spells and rituals that awoke an unnumbered legion of dragons that to this date remained sleep and hidden from modern Illyria – an act or defiance and revenge against King Sigurd for pursuing the animation of undead dragons for his own pursuits of power and solidarity. It is Mirexeth Vorthyn’s intention to establish the dragons as the dominant power in Illyria, with the Dragonkin as the only Faction who can protect all other living beings from their terrible power and destruction.
Among the many fossils and relics in her possession, Mirexeth is rumored to possess a magical dragon heirloom of profound significance. This ancient artifact, known as the Heart of Mormaug, is believed to carry the mystical force required to commune with the slumbering dragons of yore. Legends speak of its ability to awaken dragons from their deep slumbers, a relic entwined with the fate of dragons and possibly Illyria itself. As keeper of the Heart, Mirexeth stands at the crucible of potential transformation, an unpredictable force within the fragmented dance of dragon worship and the destinies it guards.

Lord Beleric Asmund was a diplomat and noble involved in Illyrian politics. He is primarily known for leading a significant diplomatic mission to the Orcish faction known as the Blood Reavers in the year 1018, accompanied by Saxil of Tundale, a rising figure in the Council of Illyria.
Lord Asmond was born into an aristocratic family in the Council of Illyria city and trade hub of https://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/World/Map/130/13" rel="nofollow - Woodsedge , a city located in the central forested regions of the Middle Kingdom known for its timber industry, pulping, and bookbinding. His family had deep economic ties to all of these industries, selling and trading widely throughout Elgea. His Father, Lord Aelric Asmund, played an active role in his family’s business dealings and brought along his son Beleric throughout his business travels, exposing him to the wider world.
As a young man, Asmund attended the Royal Lyceum of Centrum, a university whose curriculum emphasizes statecraft, diplomacy, oratory, law, and the impartial study of history. It was here that he focused on the intersection of diplomacy and trade, and later joined the diplomatic trade office in Centrum. Asmund distinguished himself as a valuable asset in dealing with the greenskin tribes and factions, given his concentration at the Royal Lyceum in Orcish studies. Early successes in forging simple but lucrative trade deals with Goblins of the Sundog Gith Faction in nearby Meilla led to his promotion as lead Envoy to the greenskin factions.
At Lord Asmund’s bidding, the Council of Illyria, seeking to gain an advantage over other greenskin threats, conceived the idea of hiring the Blood Reavers—Orcs of notorious ferocity and martial prowess—as mercenaries, believing that hiring them might be the best way to establish longstanding diplomatic and trade ties that would be beneficial for the realm in warding off other rival greenskin Factions, such as the Sillar and Sundog Gith, who had grown especially hostile with the Duchy of Keppen.
The events leading to the death of Lord Asmund are well documented, appearing in Saxil of Tundale’s firsthand account of the incident. His murder at the hands of the Blood Reavers sent shockwaves through the Council of Illyria. From that time on, relations between the Council of Illyria and the Blood Reavers entered a long period of mutual bitterness and distrust. In subsequent years, mention of Lord Asmund became synonymous with the perils of overreaching ambition and the volatility that lies ever beneath the surface of inter-faction relations in Illyriad.

Aranel Lightleaf is a scribe, historian, and lorekeeper of the elven Llwcharion faction in the Broken Lands. While she is lesser-known than other loremasters of Illyria, her chronicles of the Llwcharion detailed in her work, entitled, “Tales from Eldaron Erua: Chronicle of the Starlit Watchtower,” are seminal to the elven race in the Broken Lands.
Descended from a long line of elven lorekeepers, Aranel Lightleaf was born in the desert bastion of Eamon Alar, near the Elven Tower of Eldaron Erua, which rises as a beacon amid the harsh waste left after the Sundering.
Driven by a need to understand and chronicle the endurance of the Llwcharion, Aranel journeyed often between the shifting dunes and the halls of Eldaron Erua, gathering oral accounts and magical relics from the survivors of the Sundering. She ventured into the ruins of once-fertile glades and lost elven outposts, coming face to face with remnants of her people's ancient world. In her youth, Aranel was said to have learned directly from wandering geomancers and the enigmatic desert mystics who meditated near Eamon Alar. These encounters deepened her mastery of desert magics and inspired the poetic style of her chronicles, the most renowned being Tales from Eldaron Erua: Chronicle of the Starlit Watchtower. Through detailed observation and a gift for lyrical prose, she immortalized the rituals, hardships, and quiet triumphs of the Llwcharion.
Lightleaf's original manuscript for "Tales from Eldaron Erua: Chronicle of the Starlit Watchtower" still exists in its original form and is believed to be archived in the annals of the library in Gorwyn.

Ailith Sylvanstride is a Fey who is associated with her race’s Seelie Court. She is believed to serve as a diplomatic liaison between the Seelies and several other races and sub-races of Illyria, though her dealings with other peoples in Elgea and the Broken Lands have been sporadic and unplanned, with her unaccounted arrivals described as apparitions rather than diplomatic missions. She is believed to be alive and well to this day in Illyria and has most recently been seen frolicking through the mystical Everspark Woods in Norweld.
Aside from the few recorded encounters that Ailith Sylvanstride has had with various people of Illyria, little else is known of her adventures and encounters. It is believed that she has served as a kind of emissary for the Seelie Court for well over 100 years, with all of her apparitions resulting in perceived strengthening with the Fey, as well as an enhancement of factions’ farms and woodlands.
She has had few interactions, but the few she has had are notable, including Merric Bramblefoot, Chief Beer Taster and Deal-maker, and the renowned Halfling diplomat and revered lorekeeper of the Keepers of the Golden Fields; Belatorix Roshan, Chief Druid of the people of Kildarran; Batu Khatan, Chief Diplomat of the Apaxu; Thalindra Mossgrovev, purported High Druidess of the Sylvans; and Faelithra Nightshade, Mistress of Whispers for the Unseelie Court.
She is also known to have appeared in front of various elven courts, as well as a rumored apparition in front of King Sigurd and his court.
There are many tales of Ailith Sylvanstride still yet to be shared -- words too numerous to present here.
