I'm guessing that the tentacles will completely surround the target city before attacking. If I am not mistaken, armies occupying squares that were uncorrupted did not prevent that square from becoming corrupted though the army was fine and did not turn to medlers. 

Perhaps, these tentacles will act differently. I have sent a small force to occupy a square around Epidemic's city that should get corrupted if they are in fact surrounding the city. 

As to the attack, perhaps the tentacles will spit out medlers in a constant wave of attacks over a period of time. Maybe the time period will be a full lunar cycle?

My first tentacle appeared at square 662/800, adjacent to Fry. I quickly occupied on top of it. I then sent armies to surround my town and to surround the tentacle. However, a new tentacle appeared diagonally some hours later at 661/801, which was the only spot which did not (at that time) yet have an army occupying it. This makes me feel like we need to surround the tentacles to stop them from expanding.

If anyone NAP nearby wants to help out by occupyng the 5 spots around tentacle number 2, I would appreciate it.. I am running low on armies in the region.

If you do help and have not already been helping out, please send me an email so that I know who to thank since it won't be listed in my army screen. :) Thank you everyone! After such a long wait, things are happening.

On second thought, save those armies until we see if tentacle number 3 appears. I *think* I will have the two tentacles surrounded in about 3 hours... let's hope they get trapped and go crazy and attack Fry! xD

Well... only 2 so far and it is over a day since it started xD So...1 a day. I am not sure the exact amount of time between the two though since I was at work. Today is the last day of the illy full moon.. I don't know if that will change anything.

Although things are faster than they have been for 2 months we aren't exactly up to 'swift' yet.

I was thinking that maybe it would keep building up to 8 squares, until the next new moon.

One of my two tentacles is not adjacent to my town so it is not just the 8 adjacent spots. I suppose 20 tentacles got loose though so it is possible they are trying to go around the city two-thick.

On that note I also wonder what would happen if a town was surrounded by canyons or water since the second tentacle seems to have avoided the canyon next to my town. Maybe if you are surrounded by all bad spots you win automatically xD

You can't be completely surrounded by impassable squares. That would be the ultimate troll city. Nobody could ever siege you.

ooh.. I notice some of the other players at this stage surrounded tentacle one in with armies in time and they don't have tentacle two at all. That gives good evidence that surrounding them is the thing to do.
