Hi Nalgore
I'm on the lookout for good online games too.  So far I have found Illyriad superiour to most in that its paid elements don't confer unfair advantage to buyers and there is lots of PvE.  The community here is also active and supportive, too.
One game I found surprisingly fun (since I don't usually go for this type of game) is Pirates of the Burning Sea (Sony Online).  Set in the 18th century Caribbean, you can sail for a country (Spain, Britain, etc.) as a merchant, naval officer, or privateer - or be a pirate (of course!).  It's 3D and the towns/ports are nicely designed and individual.  Lots of quests (PvE) - PvP is totally optional and restricted to certain areas of the map.  Lots of active "societies" with different goals. You level up by gaining XP in quests and battles and can buy better ships etc. at higher levels.  I find there's something thrilling about watching an enemy ship's guns flash in the distance and seconds later water erupting around your ship and hearing the sound of splintering wood...and then the satisfaction of seeing your rounds find their mark (or not!).
The game has its own version of Prestige but it doesn't give anyone unfair advantage.  Anyway, I hope I don't come across as sounding like I work for Sony but I find the game is well done and is a nice change of pace.
There might be just one downside for some people - there is a large download involved.

Hello Dear Community,

I have been playing Illyriad for the past to weeks and I definitely intend to stay. Still, the game does not require as much attention as some others, and there is a lot of 'downtime' inbetween actions.
Because of this, I wanted to ask the community to recommend some other tried and worthwhile browser games. Naturally, I will share some of my personal favourites as well if anyone's interested.
Oh, and I wanted to assure you mods and other caring people that I am far from trying to snatch any players away from Illy. Also I am not affiliated/am not advertising any games - in fact I am trying to find a game for myself in a more effective way than via google.

By the way, my definition of a worthwhile browser game is the following:

- Not P2W or subscription based (Illyriad's business model is most acceptable, most other games are atrocious in this respect)
- A fair level of complexity in the game mechanics
- Can be a Computer Board Game, Collectible Card Game, Strategy, RPG
- Possibly no s-f or space setting
- Would be good if the game was not horribly repetitive and grindy
- A decent level of in-game progression
- Interaction with other players (you wouldn't believe how many games don't do this right)

Thanks in advance for all suggestions, I will share mine if someone else should be interested.

Nalgore.
