Don't forget, introducing "friction" into Illyriad is something GM SC has mentioned he tries to do.

any community creates a outward main mindset, even if its not what every person thinks its what is seen.

You are wrong and I am Sooo glad you are not a dev because what you said is just stupid, long term experienced players and what they think and want with the game comes from "playing" it ALOT and a good dev (Illy devs) will listen to this with intense attention.

There are people doing that in real life as a job, you believe they should kill themselves aswell? now how serious you take what a person says on such things i say would depend on how long they have been around to gather enough information and insight on this.

Its annoys me when people try to tell others "its just a game" its Time, Time is Life, if someone puts 1000 hours into a game that games is a big part of their life and their life experienced, just as much as anything else, and maybe they want to try and make it more fun more exiting or anything else.
Its just a game, why they hell are football players paid hundreds of millions to kick a ball.. im leading armies and training new orcs and i get nothing :(

My impression is that the tension builds as time passes since the last tournament. I think it is really more of boredom than actual game tension. Idle hands are the devil's workshop.

+1 to what createure said.
I feel the game mechanics keep moving towards building tension and somehow the game politics keeps the tension from rising. The place seems calmer than an year before when I joined, though the releases in between had the potential to build tensions (diplo visibility range is one example)

I'm not sure who you are referring to tbh... there are many kinds of players - I don't particularly remember anyone saying anyone else HAS to think the same way they do though?
There are some who have played this game for a considerable time who have become deluded enough to believe that they can have a significant impact on its gameplay and even it's development. That is a mistake. Illyriad is just a game to be played and enjoyed. |
I agree with the last part but I think the first part is completely wrong. The very fact that we are lucky enough to have devs who read the forums and interact with the community means that almost all the community/game direction and even a good proportion of the game development is driven by players' feedback.
I seriously think that those who believe that they can perhaps forecast changes in the community's mindset should maybe take a few weeks off from the game. |
True - it would be folly to attempt to predict with any kind of certainty what Illyriad will look like in a few months or more... although I don't think that makes people who postulate general speculations as a past-time wrong in any way.
That is not say that players and alliances should not adopt a strategic approach to their gaming by setting goals and patientently work towards them. I am simply trying to remind everyone that Illy is a game! |
I like that bit... "Y SO SERIOUS?" is a phrase that often springs in to my head while browsing the forums... usually why I try and make an effort to inject a little humor into my posts!

The very heart of Illy is patience. This seems to me to be the factor in the discourse as it removes many of the sorts of people who would otherwise disrupt the surface tension.

I agree that players in Illy tend to have a perspective and dare I say maturity lacking in many other places. The difference in discourse between Illy and that found in for example online media comment sections can be quite striking. I too hope that we are able to continue to explore our differences in an atmosphere of mutual respect, to the greatest degree possible.
