I think you will find that the rise in tension is directly related to King Sigurd. I recently observed his henchmen dumping barrels of toxic waste in the land's water supply. I fear this is the cause. We can prevent this if all of you start buying the bottled water from my port town.

Well said Creature!
So....... I propose an Illyriad version of the Spanish Inquisition, where by all members who are suspected of practicing the aforementioned "Schadenfrude" are tortured, and burned, and mercilessly ridiculed in monty python skits... Its silly I know, but I'm also being wee bit serious. Mag.

Oh I absolutely do - regularly - particularly on games/internets which has more anonymity and less serious consequences than "real life" [a term I don't really like because clearly the internet and games are a part of what comprises 'real life' for people that use them - but you know what I mean]. Illy has more serious consequences if things go wrong than a lot of games (or even ALL games that I've ever played anyways). Maybe that's why the community pretends to be so friendly? (joke, i'm sure you all are genuinely really friendly )And although this phenomenon has grown a multiplicity of various terms, guises and forms since the advent of the internet, forums and online-gaming it is certainly nothing new: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude Edited by Createure - 17 May 2012 at 23:53 |

Sorry Hora, I couldn't hear you over all the emoticons.
![]() But having said that, you got it in one, I couldn't have said it better my self. On another note, "Driving a car is fun, crashing a car is not." <--- thanks captain obvious. It seems to me the problem is not the wars themselves, but the vindictive nature of some players. That could be a starting point for the illy community to test its waring abilities. If someone is about to get sieged from the game, then people should come to their aid?

Yep its just a game until your siege off of it. I've seen it done, every last town razed, making the player go from 20-30k pop to nothing. You call that fun if you'd like, but to me that is not fun. Who would start over from 0 pop? Think if you even spent money, all that money you spent wasted. Everything gone, having to start fresh.
Its a game, fighting is fun, war is not. I don't see how anyone could be that heartless even on a game. |

Woah, Magnificence, tell us what you really think....
![]() I understand, that you want to say (at least roughly): "A game is a game, nothing more, and wars can be fun... and when you loose, nothing too serious happend". (I hope I did no misinterpretation... )I just can't get the quote and some of the more cryptical sentences in there... ![]() Well, I settle my own point of view right in the middle... YES, it is just a game, and I wouldn't mind some losses (didn't have any serious ones so far... ), but YES, I also would be quite a bit angry about lost towns or whole accounts sieged to the ground. After all, it has been some time investment to get to an acceptable place in this (in average quite comfortable...) community. To see that lost might hurt, but it wouldn't be doomsday to me...![]() |

Last time I checked there were no professional illyriad players. *hands the angry orc a grain of salt* It is a game, whether you add the word just in front or not. Im not going to post the oxford dictionary definition of the word game, because that would be facile. Im sure we all know what the word means. I will keep waving this bone until man evolves - "Illy wars are very enjoyable, no rules, no definitions, just good clean family fun" Magnificence. To end with another quote - "And, as if nature were protecting man against his own ingenuity, the reproductive processes were affected for a time; men became sterile, women had miscarriages, menstruation stopped."
