How about adding some nastier npc's to the mix? Perhaps roving bands that can actually attack one's cities? That would spice things up a bit, methinks.

/me does not want to get attacked by the Legion of Giant Spiders or Myriad of Giant Scuttlers skulking about outside her cities.

I think this is a good idea in general, but perhaps in concert with magic that one could cast like a "pest repellent" for those who would not be amused by creature attacks.

I cannot wait until they add factions back and have them attack us. Can't wait for pathfinding and all the goodies that should come with that. But I hope Dracolich doesn't get on the lose again and come after our cities. :(
