I can only assume that your (alliance and/or individual) standing with a given faction will be moved in the negative direction as you diplo and/or attack encamped armies.  What I would like to know is, how can your status be improved with a given faction?

Let me toss out some ideas...

1. Giving gifts to factions.  Maybe those barbarians aren't familiar with flora and fauna from different regions in the game?  A generous offering (5000 iceheart, 500 black bear teeth) would improve your standing.  Perhaps orcs like really shiny rare minerals found outside of their region of influence (5000 rainbow stone looks great when surrounded by all that obsidian)?

2. Paying bribes when factions camp outside of your door.  Rather than facing a plundering of your city or sov, or a pending blockade you can be given a certain time period to meet demands of the faction.  Failing to meet the demands will result in a downgrade to your standing plus any damage inflicted by the offending faction.  However, paying off the bribes may allow you to move the standing in a positive direction.

3. A successful trader at a hub can improve standing.  The factions would like to collect on taxes.  Perhaps a ratio between sales/sell offers (taxes paid) and amount of goods stored at a hub could be considered when adjusting standing?  This may make the hub as an infinite warehouse no longer a reality.  An alliance, or individual, with traders and goods at a hub can be expelled (or worse) should standing fall very low.

Let the community refine these ideas for a more desirable implementation when factions "go live".

I don't think your ideas are bad but I'd like it to be a bit more challenging. That said, I have no idea how one might accomplish that.

Faction quests. Accomplishing missions for a faction should make them like you more.

I had assumed that was their plan from the start.
