This suggestion has three parts:
- Each timed action (or relevant game event) has a notify option. When notify is ON, the user gets a notification when it is completed.
- A Notify Preferences page sets the default notify option for each event type.
- If there's room in the interface, a way of switching the notify setting for individual events, in-queue and as the command is given. The most efficient method would be a 'mail' icon, which opens a pop-up that sets notify options, along with a link to the Notify Preferences page.
This will tidy up notifications and mail, and improve the quality of information that a player receives. So if you're fed up of seeing mail clutter when you use caravans, or you want to know:
- when your sovereignty-claiming troops arrive, or
- when your thieves are bringing back their haul, or
- when vital research is completed, or
- units are home, or
- your spell has wound down, or
- you have the option to 'capture or raze'
… then this suggestion would work for you.
This also works as a foundation for notifications of any Illy events. If managed responsibly, it could help bring Illy into the mobile arena. There are many ways of notifying, so it's possible that these methods could be worked into the Notify process:
- Notifications,
- In-game Mail,
- email (not used),
- IM (not used),
- Mobile client (not used).
