News from my commander

The Captain of your home guard approaches you in the middle of the night with strange news. 
He informs you that, only a few minutes ago, a cowled stranger delivered a scroll, addressed to you and sealed by a smear of ochre wax.. 
The message reads: 
"To My Lord Geofrey, 
It is with the utmost urgency and concern that I bring this business to you. 
The dark power emanating from The Rift has soared during the night, peaking and dispersing itself only some moments ago. 
Whilst The Rift is now silent, ancient and terrible things have been stirred from their slumber and are, even as we speak, heading towards those active gateways to the dread worlds beyond the veil. 
The foolish Archmages of the Circle Of Five tarry and dither, conducting their pathetic investigations and studies. Too little, too late, as ever. 
The sands in the hourglass are whisper-thin and in the early hours before dawn, when the darkness itself saps the strength and will from the living, the moment will be upon you. 
Whilst I cannot assist you directly, I have employed the services of those who have some passed-down knowledge of fighting beasts of this nature, and they will endeavour to be there to assist when the time comes. I have no guarantee that it will be enough and even my powers cannot undo all the horrors that have been awakened. 
I wish you all the grace of your forebears in this matter, for you will surely need it." 
The message is signed with a wax seal of a forked lightning bolt.
