You can move your capital 1 time, research what alliance fits your needs and what you want.  Then you should move towards them.  Please make sure that you check the faction they are near and move to an area that is on the neutral or positive side of the faction.  If there is an alliance near you right now that you want to try, please do.

Research  should be City first, and the others fall in as you upgrade.  The City section gives you the buildings that you need to do further research as well.  As you upgrade buildings, it unlocks further research.  :)  As you build your Consulate, start building your diplomats a little at a time before you know it you have a good defense in your city.  When your ready, then work on troops in barracks a little at a time.

I wish you the best in this game.  If you have an questions, please feel free to send me a mail in game and I will be happy to answer or get an answer for you.

Best Wishes,

LadyLuvs

Newbie questions:

When choosing an alliance is it best to choose one with members close to me?

What order should we do research and buildings in?

Thanks

Here's a few older posts about race, that may or may not help you:

Now I have a new newb question,

What if that's your only city?
You are relocated to another map quadrant with a New Settlement at zero pop, you retain the research you possessed by your last city.

Thank you very much.
Vaults can not be breached.  A siege can lower the level of the vault though.

Yes, you capital can be captured or razed by a siege.
