my experience is tha different areas get seeded with newbs at different times - twenty appeared over Christmas with their fairy rainbows.

It seems to me that newbs pop up in one area within the newb ring around the same time. Like one day I'm sending a lot of caravans to Lucerna, the next day it's Tor Carrock. I'm not entirely convinced this isn't just my brain overinterpreting random data though.
The idea of newbs being able to spawn in Broken Lands is something the developers did consider, I believe, and decided against.

In the past I have had the impression it was like a radar sweeping. But that might just be an illusion of human eyes interpreting randomness.
Cities appearing next to your own is just something that happens in the newb ring. It's part of the incentive to move as you grow. |

Hi all,
Is there a way to predict where newbs will generate? I went from having a fairly open locale in the newbie ring, after the last round of newbs went inactive and disappeared, to having lots of new cities spawn all around me.
Is there a predictable method as to where the newbs are spawning? Does it rotate around the ring like a radar sweeping a region from a central/Centrum point? Recommendation #1: Is it possible to calculate the least-dense areas of the newbie ring and have cities spawn there? The purpose here would be to alleviate the placement of a new city adjacent to existing player. A "10 square" distance for a spawn may not be possible but why not start with the goal of filling the least-dense areas of the ring first? Recommendation #2: Would a second newbie ring ever be implemented? Perhaps one with a smaller radius? Did the game miss on an opportunity to create such a ring in the BL for those players indicating a preference for a different level of play? Your knowledge and opinions are appreciated! |
