Yes! If it is possible for you to do so without building your cities too far apart as well, it makes shifting resources between them a drag

Wood is important, basically use wood for EVERYTHING - food, basic and advanced resources, but the amount varies on the level upgrade when it comes to building basic resources (excluding books and beer, these are considered basic resources)
Making advanced resources remain the same and will neither go up or down for wood use and that goes for beer and books too.

Good luck on your endeavors and happy gaming! Thumbs Up

So I'm seeing that it's generally advisable to build on a 7 food plot and ignore those 6 food plots, while making sure that the resource taking the hit is not wood.

Thanks for all the help!

Having a city on a 7 food tile is very helpful if you want this city to be self-sufficient, even if it has 15 000 population. But when you will be more exepenrienced, you may find by yourself that this isnt always the best option as the max pop is 26 985, and that this is not always the best strategy if you want to have good armies and pruduce it fast. It also depends on if you are a Human or an Elf. Having many defending armies on different cities is a good strategy to produce it fast... but often, when you build an offensive army, you will prefer to have a big single one.

Also, for sovereign reasons, having all of his cities self-sufficient and not larger than 17k pop, is not always a good thing.

Anyway, if you chose a tile that gives 7 food and 3 clay or 3 iron (and not 3 wood), you will barely never be missing of these ressources, even when your your city is maxed... so do not hesitate to settle on a 7 food tile, it will let you the choice of your specialisation strategy.

Food is important and would recommend you build all your new settlements on a +7 food square if possible and it wont hurt to have a few more surrounding food squares for later when you get into sovereignty (dont have to worry bout that now but good to be aware of it).

You cant build a new settlement on dolmens or other buildings, these are resource and npc spawn areas and the system will tell you that you can not settle on them anyway.

You can however build next to them. It would be good if you built next to one/s that have a good food bonus on them, the higher the food bonus the better.

Food is important!

Food = More population or
Food = More troops/diplomats or
BOTH!

Food also means you can have higher taxes to generate more gold to purchase goods on the market!

And need food to make resources - beer, livestock and horses!

Also should look at the surrounding area you wish to place your new settlement in, what players are in the area, and if they are affiliated with an alliance, and it wouldnt hurt to learn abit of info about that alliance too! wouldnt want to end up in an area that is hostile.

Then that brings up another question. What is the general opinion on building on top of these types of places?

I'm pretty new here, but I hear rumors of new buildings coming out and we don't know what they are or will do. Would it be better to move adjacent to these plots and later claim sovereignty on them? Or just build the new town right on them and next to other, better spots for sov? Like Dolmen, Lodges, etc.

I know that food is super important later on, just wanting to know what the best path to take is. Thanks!

In short yes! If it is a placement of a new settlement but the 7 farm plots comes at a cost to another basic resource which will only have 3 plots but you always have your kiln, stone mason etc to make up for the loss of any b.res production.

I'm sure that this has been asked before, but I wanted to know if one built a new town on top of an abundant crops (or the deer or sheep) if that town would be able to build 7 farmyards instead of the basic 5? Or does the race specific plots override this (ie for human 5 each, orc gets more clay/less wood)?

Thanks for the help!
