last tourney we simply saw some poor tactics by some alliances: lack of flexibility, target fixation, inability to coordinate. h? were lucky because on some flags the perception of their strength scared proper conflict away. There were more than enough troops hopelessly thrown away by some alliances, to defeat h? at their stronghold flags. Bow

Why not just make an A and a B team based on the previous tournaments?
H? was by far the strongest, but among all the alliances only a handfull can hope to compete with them. As you correctly point out, size isnt a factor in this, however, you could reason that those that participated and ranked high in the former tournement have the military capability while others do not.
I admit, being a small alliance competing in a league of its own would be like competing in the special olympics but its better than spending time fighting impossible odds.
Bottom line - it will get more people active and participating, not shower the strongest alliances with special units, gold and prestige (which when you think about it can be counterproductive to the whole tournament idea), and that is the point of a tournament in my opinion.

The simplest and most rational solution which has already been suggested is to allow alliances to Confederate and act as a single body for the duration of the tournament (with the current rules of 100 players max).
This is the only 'true/fair' handicap. All others are meaningless. Size is no indication of strength remember, a small pop player can very logically have a greater military power than a larger. Weight classes are inappropriate.
Now back to the point of this thread: GM's: Thoughts on the next tournament date?

Agreed. mCrow had less than 30 members and we held some of the flags for quite some time and that was with one of our more military strong members not participating. Not to mention that even though we didn't win we had a lot of fun and gained tons of commander exp.

You also have to consider the factor of how many people in the alliance are actually going to be participating in the tournament.

Not sure how 'weight classes' would work, after all an alliance with say under 50 members against an alliance with 100 members who would have the advantage, also do you go on population ? that does not represent military strength. I know some alliances were caught out by the start of this tourney but im sure next time around more plans will have to be made by everyone taking part.

I suppose having the "weight classes" would give the smaller alliances more of a chance :) It would in a way be good...

Maybe the next tournament will have "weight classes" so smaller alliances compete against other smaller alliances and the big alliances compete just against the other big alliances.

Some smaller alliances might surprise you. Especially if they didn't participate in the last one and spent the time building up instead. While I could see some who had hopes crused not participating, I think it would just encourage others to try do better next time

I hope not EAM. I hope they are doing what everyone else is doing and preparing so they do stand a fighting chance the next time. I hope many will rise to the occasion and surprise everyone.
