However I still like this idea.

Research rank can't be faked.

Build a small city, send a bunch of books, do all the fast and cheap research.  Then siege the town and build a new one.  Rinse and repeat.

Why do you think The_Dude/El Jeffe is #1 and #2 in the research ratings?  He sieged himself out of the game a few years ago and had to replace a lot of cities.  Most of the top 20 are people who lost cities to siege and had to rebuild.

1. Build a city and complete all research.

2. Raze the city.

3. do items 1 and 2 until you get bored. :))

it can be faked if you put your mind to it. :)

For example, if many people in an alliance had high trade ranks, the alliance could have an overall alliance high trade rank. There could also be a combined rank as with players.

As well as just being a fun way for different styles of alliances to try to improve themselves as a whole (for example trade-oriented alliances) it might also lead to some friendly non-military competition. For example, an alliance that wanted a high overall rank or many high individual ranks might suddenly have to switch some of its resources towards trade competitions or towards more land area, doing quests, etc.

I also think that it would be fun if individual players had land area ranks. Land area can correspond to military/wealth/production/etc. as well as population. Having more might not always be 'useful'... but neither are a lot of the other ranks such as quest.

Trade rank is unfortunately meaningless.  People can fake their numbers just by trading basic res back and forth between their alts... and a lot of people have.  Land rank would also be meaningless because you can only put buildings on twenty squares.  The game will let you claim more than a hundred sov squares but that would require you to waste a vast amount of gold and research points to maintain, cutting into your wealth and production for no benefit.
