I think that the city should have more empty spaces for buildings.  That way you could make multiples of a building that you wanted to focus resource production on.  For instance, if you started making 50 livestock and you wanted to make some more, you could use a second common ground to make them.  Also, if you wanted to focus on trading, you could make 2 marketplaces to double the number of caravans your city could support. Obviously, this would lead to cities made especially for producing a certain resource, which would make the game, in my opinion, a lot more interesting.

At first glance this would be a fantastic idea, however when you think about it, it is actually more likely to kill trade. Allowing players to build 2 of one structure would mean that players would be able to more easily  focus production on items that they need, this coupled by the fact that secondry towns can produce the items you only occasionally need means that a player will never have a motive to trade with other players.
