ah i see.  i think its a cool bug.  It adds a little surprise every now and then.

/me sends army to many Rats.

/me is dismayed to find 10 rats and 40 mammoths!

Double mixed NPC's are pretty common and I don't think it is a game bug. You can even see both creature types and relative sizes, if you click on the camp. The map only shows the larger group.

I was wondering if anyone has seen triple mixed NPC groups?

The devs have said previously that they don't intend for there to be mixed NPC groups.  The animals are supposed to fight and then one group is supposed to move on.  Or at least they mentioned that in the new release thread.

I put in a petition about a mixed group a while back, not because I particularly care whether there are mixed groups or not but because I wanted it to be documented, since the devs stated it shouldn't be happening anymore.

I have seen situations where something appears on the map to be wild dogs and then when you click on it it says "myriad of giant rats" or whatever.  I haven't seen both sizes listed, but I also haven't been map crawling for a few days.
