Topic: Metagame Posted: 28 Jun 2011 at 11:26 |
I simple suggestion, change the metagame, change the way the game is played. At the moment is just boring on the long run, and i'm talking as a big fan of Illyriad. Tournments are not going to change anything. We need conflicts for territory, resources and trades.

As far as I can see there is nothing to stop anyone metagaming at any time. Accept that there are certain limitations imposed during tournaments and even they are shall we say "whimsical" at times.
So I should say go ahead except that there's an old saying "Careful what you wish for . It may come true" to take into account.
Have you two forgotten that LH had a spy in your alliance. Well the spy is still there and the message sent out for the moment is "Dlord are not fit for purpose". Lost too many troops in the tournament, highlords gone walkabout and there is poor leadership militarily.

Mr. Troll, to be honest i don't care and i don't understand what should your reply add to the discussion. You and your friends don't understand the fact that this is a game, and you'r supposed to enjoy a game ;)

This is not the server forum, its the forum for suggestions.
Right now the tournament every 3 months are the "only" thing that is interesting (beside the good feel in this game and the good community). Could be nice with some fighting over territory or something like that.
Please come with suggestions ;-)

Hopefully in the future the will be a huge war between factions vying for power and land and individual players/ alliances will have to pick sides and the outcome will be based on witch ever side conquers the other. say one side is King Sigurd and the other royal factions versus the rebel factions such as the undying flame , and also say the rebel side on and a new monarch was established
or the heart of corruption might go on an epic conquest of the world.....
p.s all hail King Sigurd of Illyriad

Yeah, the guy is a troll, but his point still stands. This is a complex game, if you choose to look beyond the basic mechanics, there is a LOT you can do to define your own metagame. It sounds like you want some competition, something to test your mettle other than logging in and feeling like this is farmville/frontiersville. You have two options, 1.) manufacture some controversy and see what happens. 2.) I saw posts from the Dude on here suggesting that players look for opponents. Find a willing player or alliance to participate in some wargames, pick a location, region, whatever and fight over it with some clear parameters agreeable to all for determining a winner. It's a sandbox game, run amok with your imagination and see what happens when you play outside the boundaries. Still, "Mr. Trolls" warning stands, be careful what you wish for on the metagaming front. What would happen if the region your capital was settled in was declared a region to be held? Some bigger fish may descend upon you....

In order to have true regional warfare and conflict for resources you need a way to properly project power at a distance. That means one or more of the following:
1) The ability to settle/capture many more cities that the population cap currently allows. 2) Remote military encampments with full messenger functionality. 3) Subject cities which you rule by force but are not fully captured and do not have the population cap limit. 4) A way to move your cities to new regions without crippling them.

1) I think the current limit is a good one. Alot of people will have the time to manage the number of cities we can have now = not only a game for people with LOADS of gaming time.
2) A very good idea :-)
3) Also a good idea but that should have a limit as well like 1 subject city pr. smaller city and maybe 2 for bigger ones. See Smoking GNU post on this topic.
4) I really dont like that idea makes it to easy for bigger players to jump around the map and farm on the smaller players.
Other ideas:
Make sov claiming cheaper or even make the claiming earn you gold/resources and only the structures costing something. Might even add a higher sov cap depending on how much of the land we want claimed.
Makes alliances able to claim sov to build roads/walls/forts/"wonders"
