Just some more comparisons of how food currently limits population(tax base). When food is decoupled from taxation you will need only 50 sov bonus points to max out the population of a 7 farm city, 83 sov bonus points for a 6 farm city, and 129 sov bonus points for a 5 farm city.

Take in consideration that soon, your food will be producting as if you had 25% tax whatever your tax is. So you can have a high pop and produce more gold. With your exemple you produce 28000 food at 25% tax, so you can have a maxed city at 26 985 pop, put it to 100% tax and produce over 107 000 gold an hour. so i worths 26 800 knight average. Would just take more than 8 months to produce this amount if you dont increase your knight production rate. for that, or you need to decrease tax to be able to use more sov, and you will produce less knights but faster... or you chose a city to be specialized in knights production only, put the maximum sov and ship gold to this city. you can then produce your 26 800 knights in 2 months or less :) if you want to have 1 big army this is how to do. you can have various big armies but that's too long to produce if you have a low production rate. if you dont want to sacifice a city and have a very large army, having 1 medium knight army in each city is still the best. you wont have 1 single OMG army but overall you will have more troops and produce them faster (if you put some 100% prod for knights at each city) was a bit out of subject talking about production speed, but that had to be said, hope i helped you Edited by Mandarins31 - 31 Aug 2011 at 14:06 |

Okay. I think there I have made a fundamental error. The column "Food" represents the maximum food that I can produce at a particular tax rate. Assuming I build up my structures so that I use up all my food, so that my net food production is zero, the "Gold" column shows me how much gold I produce = pop*4*tax.
While it is clear that the more the population I produce, the more the troops I can support, there is a TRADEOFF between "Max Troops" vs "Max Population" So, any ideas as to what tax rate to maintain in the long run and in effect determine the maximum population that your city should achieve?

You can keep as many troops in a city as you want, if you have stashed up gold. There is no upper limit.

at 100% tax, you'd get gold 4 times your pop. So if you have 17,904 population (equivalent to 17,904 food) you'll have 71,616 gold, not 56,392. 34 new buildings are coming, most of which needs resource upkeep. 100% tax may not be a profitable option later on.

I have done some rough calculations. Please confirm whether the calculation is right. Are troops in excess of 10K possible? (Tier 2 cavalry)
Level 20 farm 2014 All farms 14098 Gold = Population*4*tax Production=Base Production*(1.25-tax+bonuses) BONUSES mill 0.4
