So here are the facts of the matter of these in game rules you all refer to as common courtesies. They are made up, not in any rule book. It's a sandbox, adapt and overcome.
On that note. Enjoy your day.

When on the World Map, towards the bottom of the screen is always south. I just love making up rules. Anyone got any other rules that need to be made up?

Don't eat yellow snow. It is both timeless and priceless.

"here are the facts?" Still waiting for them...... If by that you mean that there are "common courtesies" why are they common and are there repercussions for not being courteous? If so then, just as there are consequences for rules, so to for "common courtesies" which are just a set of socially normative rules. Without the consequences they wouldn't be rules but suggestions, with the consequences they become rules. The question is not if the sandbox has rules...or 'common courtesies" if you must, but if and to what degree they result in consequences if they are broken or upheld. If I'm polite to my neighbors they don't usually attack me: general rule, "it is not acceptable to attack others without cause when there are consequences for doing so." If you can find that written in any book I would be surprised. The point being that if we have "common courtesies" and you break them, they don't have to be written in a book to be a rule. Usually we get rules written in books when it becomes necessary to reign in those who have abandoned the common courtesies. Laws are not made for the expected but when the unexpected keeps showing up. By the "it" in the sentence "It's a sandbox...." you, of course, assume you are speaking of the game on the server. In fact the only sandbox is that which is only instantiated by the players and exists only in the players minds. Thus, if there is more than one player, there is a need for "common courtesies." Those who try to "adapt and overcome" will usually find consequences for their actions, some good, some bad, depending how their actions are perceived. The grey area of these rules is always present as the players interact with each other and with the game mechanics. That too is part of the fun some of us have in how we try to influence the "common courtesies." Now those are the "facts" of the matter. Any questions? AJ |

Unless it is a lemon-flavoured snow-cone. p.s. murder in real life doesn't seem like a 'rule' by the way it is being used in this post. It is, after-all, physically possible. 'No levitating' might be a rule... unless someone has a hack. p.p.s. I do not condone murder. Or breaking the laws of physics. Actually I am indifferent about the physics Edited by Alcie - 07 Aug 2015 at 01:40 |

That's the great thing about science - it works whether you believe in it or not.
