Hi everyone

Started playing few weeks ago, but I am fast loosing interest

I get this awfull feeling that the number of inactive players is absurd. I am surrounded by such players

Moving to a more active zone is out of the question, because I am not big enough to make neighbours with older (bigger) villages and survive. Moving to a place full of small villages would probably lead me to inactive neighbours

It is extremely hard to get an overview on where I am and what are the staretigh threats / opportunies. Tried to follow the link to the map, all I got is this XML code or something, don't know what to do with it

Hope you takes this as a request for hope:

1 - How often are inactive villages removed?
2 - When / where can I get a map tool that does not require advance IT skills to operate?

1) Whenever GMs feel like it? (I don't specifically know)
2)

A few areas are claimed by alliances.  One particular area is claimed by an alliance that will attack any new players that spawn in their territory once they get out of protection.
A lot of others are more forgiving, though I expect a few will want to put pressure on you to join them or leave the area.

I can probably try to get a list of claims up, but I'll leave that for when I feel like it, if ever.

Inactive towns are put on a list and eventually get deleted.  Takes over 4 weeks at least, but less than 3 months usually.  You can attack them to get some resources until they run out, so they have some use.

They are working on a new map, supposedly.  But you can also navigate more easily if you use the compass.  (when in game on the map, zoom out as much as you can, then use the arrows on the bottom right).

the yellow dot in the middle centers it back on your town, and arrow right goes one section to the right, northeast goes one section up and over to the right,  helps a lot for quickly moving the map locally.

big maps and stuff are being added often.

This game changes, I can tell you that.  Been here for 2 months? or so and they've changed so many things in the game it's incredible.  Have patience, or at least loosely log in to see what's new.  Keep up the good work Illy staff! Clap

Settlements in theory can get removed after 4 weeks, in practice they seem to last several months or at least last as long as I've been playing as there are loads of idle players that were already idle when I started in June, they just become useless after 4 weeks as that's when they stop giving out resources. So raid them for lots of resources till then. Once you are surrounded by players inactive for 4 weeks +, then is when you get bored enough to quit yourself and join them :-)

The inactive players are removed in a radius around the center of the map or so i've been told. In my original location there were people there since before i started in May this year!

Thanks all for the feedback

@ Zangi thanks for the links but:

General Topographic Map: http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/uploads/16/illyriad_topography_fullsize.gif
what's the point of this info? if at least my village appeared i could have a more correct idea where I am, because right now it is very rough. I think it is a basic requirement for this kind of game, that your villages can be clearly identified in a map, as well villages belonging to another player or vilages from a specific alliance

without this, strategically managing your situation at a diplomatic level / threat analysis level is nearly impossible. and without this aspect of the game, where is the challenge?

Factions i still need to read to figure what they are ... I supose they got invented to make up for so many inactive players ... bad ...

Information on Faction/AI: http://uk1.illyriad.co.uk/view_faction_list.asp
Same comments as in general topographic ... but please, yes, someone list the claims on land by alliances. this kind of thing should be in-game feature, and all players in a region that gets claimed should get notified when some alliances announces this

Hope inactive villages near me dissapear soon, i've farmed them but they aren't producing anything, they are empty of resources ... crap ...Confused

Thanks for the offers guys, but really, picking up and leaving to be in some cozy place surrounded by friendly villages reminds me of sim city or farmville too much

Not crazy about the "move village" idea. In this "alternative" universe, rules should fight for their people and land, not walk away from their land for no good reason. I've no one around around me, so i'll either grow here untill i run into problems and then deal with them ... or quit before that happens

Before you decide to quit. At least wait for the new features that are still in development (trade v2, factions and maybe tournaments). Those are game changing events and might bring back the interest in this game for you ;-)
