Topic: Is there a diplomatic units guide?Posted: 30 Dec 2011 at 21:31 |

I'm interested in diplomatic tactics & strategy. What units to produce, how to use them, and similar stuff. Can anybody share his or her wisdom?

The first rule for using diplo units: Don't talk about using diplo units.
Disclaimer: In stating this rule I am neither confirming nor denying that I have an assortment of thieves, saboteurs and assassins that I may or may not employ for purely defensive purposes.

Oh, and Ryelle suggests that you join an alliance and make a casual inquiry in alliance chat. This may or may not result in you being approached by someone willing to mentor you in the fine art of diplomacy.
Not that I know anything about it!

Hamlets out of beginner protection (no rainbow) with a population below 20 are most likely inactive and ideal training targets for your basic and advanced thieves and spies. When you are ready with the "heroic human statues" mystery you end up with a bunch of basic spies doing nothing useful. Even their protection is minimal in relation to the scribes won in the "heroic human statues" quest, therefore you can use them to visit apparently inactive hamlets in your neighbourhood. If the target is promising (goods reported by basic spies, no defenders reported by scouts) send some thieves. If the thieves make it send more thieves. Send master thieves after the basic thieves cleaned the basic resources. Make sure that your test targets do not belong to an active player.

OK, that's an art of thieving for a new player against other newbs. Thanks for that.
But I want to know how the diplomats are used by the veterans against the veterans? Are they effective, and how to make them effective? |

Be aware of something important before you take the diplomatic path: any diplomatic action has average a chance of 1/300 to be a catasrophic fail, in any condition, even if the defender has no dilomatic defenses. Anyway, there are already many tactics to use with diplomats, and i hope more are comming, soon :) Diplos are taboo... shhh!.... but you could read that thread to have better ideas about Thieves already. The attack/defence system works the same for all diplos (and for exemple, thieves can be only blocked by other thieves... other diplos has no effect on them, etc...) http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/questions-about-thieves_topic1462_page1.html after, no, there isnt really a guide about diplos. Edit: Oh, and if you want to know more about diplo strategies, i would advise you to join a good alliance who could reply to you, as Rill said ;) Edited by Mandarins31 - 31 Dec 2011 at 10:54 |
