Topic: interface should allow different cities in tabsPosted: 12 Jun 2012 at 15:47 |

Currently, if I have one city viewed in one tab, then I open a 2nd tab and change city, I see stuff from the new city from the first tab even though it still displays the first city as chosen at the top.
somehow, the notion of "current city" is silently leaking from one tab to the other for all actions, but not the res in the top bar. I'd really like to have different cities in different tabs, however illy currently doesn't allow this, and what's worse does it in an extremely confusing way. Demonstration: select city A in tab 1 open illy in new tab (middle click on any link will do) in tab 2, select city B go back to tab 1 where city A is selected click on 'city map' - note buildings from city B are shown, yet the top bar still shows city A as selected, and all the resource numbers for city A. you will also be unable to send res from A to B as illy will complain that you can't send caravans to where they originate from! I'm sure there's various other untoward effects of this bug. The solution is to specify the selected city in all requests rather than store it as a player property on the server. Until that is done, the top bar should be updated whenever other things are updated with res and current city.

I'm not sure if this really is a bug, rather then that there are technical reasons not to allow a player to have different cities open simultaneously. I agree it would be nice if it was, though. Edited by Progressor - 13 Jun 2012 at 12:54 |

Yes, I'd love it too.
I remember a GM saying somewhere that "Illy doesn't work well in tabs", so I'd suppose it's technical and no bug. A dashboard page could partly solve that... |

It seems that 'current city' is a state remembered at the Illy server. This means that another tab for a 'previous city' will confuse the interface.
I've guessed that several suggestions, based around the idea of aggregating cities, wouldn't work without a lot of reprogramming... but it would be nice if this were possible, as it would enable lots of useful suggestions for 'emipre management' interfaces.

I haven't had a problem with it showing the wrong town since they did that update where it flashes when a town is changed successfully. Do you still have the issue, dunnoob? (I am using Chrome, if that makes a difference.)

. Meanwhile I switch the focus town in both open tabs manually, after closing any further open Illy tabs.
