An Illyriad app would be fine, as many functions (eg. map, mails, chat) can't be used in Android, even with a modern Samsung Galaxy S3. I think, it would help Illyriad to get better known and to develop. I would really appreciate such an App.
One of our biggest german  browser game publishers (Gameforge) just tries that with some of their games like "Grepolis" and "The Tribes".
But: it would cost a fortune to design such an app. Big publishers maybe can afford this time consuming and quite costly process . I think, it would eat up all our devs ressources to work on that. And speaking for me:  I would see ingame development as a priority.
Another thought: there is a trend, which could destroy the Indie games development to the benefit of large publishers with much capital in stock. It's the free apps, which you can download without paying a penny. Only large firms can afford that risky thing, as it is not sure, that players will use ingame shops for more playing fun (to refinance that project). And Illyriad, who never wanted to be a pay to win couldn't install such a shop, at least with not much more prestige features then now.
A buy app (which at least I would spend money on) would be the alternative. If it could compete and be profitable. Don't know, if that would work in the end.
Another thing about apps is, at least android apps, you need to develop several apps for different android devices (due to the display resolution and different android OS like Tegra). With IOS this is not that problem. That's one reason, why recently Baldurs Gate II Release on Android devices has been delayed without a release date in sight, whereas it works fine on IOS.

I find myself wanting the map to fill the whole screen on my iPad, and things like scout reports to be integrated into the display, along with a more elegant way of issuing commands. The current GUI is useful and well formatted, but the use model is definitely centered around a mouse.

Of course, extending another platform would rather defeat the purpose of having an HTML5 front end that is 100% cross-platform.

I'd settle for that frustrating map re-centering bug to get fixed.

I'd be more than happy with an Android app that allowed me to do some of the city/trade management functions of the game. Mostly text based screens rather than full map functionality.

> Manage my cities research, build and resource production.
> Manage hub trading.
> Mail, GC, AC screens.

I realise it's perhaps not what everybody would want, but for 'mobile' use it would do perfectly for me.

Illyriad seems to work best on the ipad for me, I haven't really experienced problems with Safari. I can't see the chat on the nexus chrome browser and I can't send mail or resources on Android dolphin browser.

BetaMatt, your description matches my experience on the iPad. The latest iOS update, which I got last week has cleared up a couple of the more annoying issues, not being able to use the building queue to full effect and the Commander Skills leveling glitch. The map seems a bit smoother in its use as well, so that is a plus. All in all a couple of steps in the right direction.

Not being able to zoom the chat is not really an issue on a tablet. On a phone, there is a way to do it, but it is cumbersome.

Just from my experience, the best browser on an android for Illy seems to be Dolphin.  I use it on my Galaxy SII and I can chat albeit with some difficulty.

I have played Illy on both my Android phone and my Nexus 7. Playing on the phone is quite tedious but playing on the tablet is not so bad for the most part.

I am unable to zoom in to GC/AC when I'm on my tablet and I can only navigate the world map by clicking on the compass. Clicking and dragging with my finger causes me to move around the entire screen instead of just the map.

An app just for tablets makes a lot of sense to me since the screens would be big enough to display all the game's info and icons without making it appear convoluted.

@abstract: Use Chrome on iOS. It is much, much better for Illyriad. Safari has an HTML 5 caching problem that causes glitches like build queues not updating.

That is indeed true, thus the same problems occur even if you use different browsers. However, by creating a direct game engine, the Illyriad app would be able to bypass browser limitations.
