Hi all,
We are all, of course, extremely sorry to hear about Amroth Anguireal, and would like to join the community in their expressions of sympathy and condolences.
In the case of Case E. Deis' (Shrapnel/Grogg's) untimely death we placed a permanent memorial on the map because we (individually as the dev team as well as a corporate entity) knew him quite well in RL as we were in advanced discussions with Case for him to help us out with coding, at the time of his death.
Corporately we did not have the pleasure of the same relationship with the player known to you all as Amroth Anguireal and we therefore feel it is appropriate for the community as a whole, who knew him the best, to create their own tributes to this player.
We will miss his helpful presence in the game.
Best wishes,
GM Stormcrow & The Illyriad Team

I think the best way to honor Amroth is to honor the principles for which he stood: Fair play, good nature, justice tempered by mercy, courtesy and a willingness to stand for what we believe in. He had a special care for new and smaller players, and each time we help a new player or stand up for the weak against a bully, we honor him.

So, the player needs to be personally known to the GMs to warrant a statue. I'd say this is bogus. AmrothAnguireal was an icon. It's a pity the devs didn't know that. A complete shame. They should have. AmrothAnguireal is so well loved among the players, I say we rise as a common voice to request a statue in his honour! It's the least we can do and so utterly trivial to his contribution to the game and to the players.

I just wanted to add my idea for the Hall of Heroes. A little building with the name of passed Illy members with something nice someone can write about them. I hope this is a simple thing that can be done, since this community is so close. Thanks

I agree with Moonlight and Llyorn.
Amroth was much more than a man yet less than a god among the Illyriad community. I had heard he was ill, but had no idea to what extent. This is very saddening to hear.
On the other hand, how can the Illyriad team have any confirmation of this passing? What would happen if the entire community faked their death simply to get a statue erected in their name? This in itself is problematic.
If his account are left to ruin, can we assume this news to be true? If that is the case - can the community erect a statue for him?
Perhaps you can set up a community event in which a statue construction site is placed and once 25mil (or some other determined amount of resources is sent) of each basic resource then it will trigger the memorials completion. This will allow the community to involve themselves in it personally, and it will be the communities tribute to Amroth - not the DEV's.
All I (we?) ask for is for the opportunity to establish a memorial. You say you appreciate the community's input and feedback - please listen to us now. Amroth was a friend.

Reluctance
Out through the fields and the woods And over the walls I have wended; I have climbed the hills of view And looked at the world and descended; I have come by the highway home, And lo, it is ended.
The leaves are all dead on the ground, Save those that the oak is keeping To ravel them one by one And let them go scraping and creeping Out over the crusted snow, When others are sleeping.
And the dead leaves lie huddled and still, No longer blown hither and thither; The last lone aster is gone; The flowers of the witch-hazel wither; The heart is still aching to seek, But the feet question 'Whither?'
Ah, when to the heart of man Was it ever less than a treason To go with the drift of things, To yield with a grace to reason, And bow and accept the end Of a love or a season?

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family both in real life and in game. He will be sorely missed.
I am choosing to memorialize him by naming my next settlement for him and I hope we can all find some way to keep his memory alive.
Perhaps we could refer to our care-a-vans to newbs as something dedicated to AA. Afterall, he was a generous man and a frequent GCer.

I wished to add my sadness, thoughts, and prayers to his family and friends. Even through a game's tiny text screen it was impossible to miss that there was a genuine, sincere, and good soul behind his words.
