Hello all,

The requirements to get the basic military unit for the Dwarves is way too high in my opinion.
You need 1 spear and 1 chainmail for the unit.
The problem is getting the chainmail.
You need a lvl 7 Iron Mine and a lvl 5 Foundry.
Well getting a lvl 7 Iron Mine is a pain in the ass since you need to balance the rest of your resources, but hey i got it today.
Now i want to build the Foundry, thats 600 Wood / 600 Clay / 500 Iron / 500 Stone for lvl 1.
Well i need to get it to lvl 5, how much resources will that take?
And then build a blacksmith, that can forge/build the chainmail that i need for the basic unit.
I hope the unit will be superman or something :).

The Humans need 1 spear and 1 leather armour, thats not hard to get.
The Orcs need 1 spear and 1 beer, very easy to get.
Dont know what the Elves need, but the Dwarves ones are too hard to get.

What are your opinions about this?
Anyone else playing Dwarves actively?
Or can someone tell me what the Elves need for their basic military unit?
Is that hard to get?

Yeah - looks like Dwarves get screwed at the beginning - it probably evens out though.

Meantime I guess I better have a look around to see which dwarf settlements I can raid :p

It's an imbalance which will be even more imbalanced if it *does* even out :)

There's a review of the Unit costs (especially the basic unit costs) ongoing at the moment.

It'll be finished tomorrow, and changes will be made to reflect a much more sensible balance.  Specifically, we're aware the Dwarf spear units are shafted atm.

We're also aware that 2nd tier Diplomatic units (requiring saddles) are difficult to get (early game) as the marketplace requirement for selling saddles is L15, so people have no option except to build the units themselves.

We're keen to provide more racial variation in the unit types, but (certainly) went too far with the Dwarf Chainmail requirement for early-game spear units, and this will change very shortly.

Current thinking is to reduce the Dwarf Chain requirement (for the basic unit only) to leather, to fall in line with the other unit types -  and also to allow some 2nd tier racial diplomatic units to not require saddles (some of those Elves can ride bareback, can't they? And maybe some humans too.)

Part of the problem is simply "early-game" on first server - as in the fact that no-one yet has a Marketplace L15, and so no-one is selling saddles.  We need to balance this with the players who specialise in trade - I've noticed a roaring trade in Books and Livestock on the server at massively marked up costs, from the few players who have Marketplace L5 and Bartering tech.

tl;dr: Unit build resource requirement balancing going on atm, announcements & changes tomorrow

Wuzz-- In the interim, you can get chainmail by doing the "Need For a Furnace" Quest...

NB. Dwarf Basic Spear unit is now Leather Armour only, no chainmail requirement
